IA State tough draw

Funny to watch all this Bracket stuff on ESPN and they are all talking about UConn vs Kentucky like the UConn vs ISU is an after thought.

UCONN, along with the Big Least, highly overrated IMO. Wasn't it last year they got some insane number of teams in and got drilled? Seldom do I find myself pulling for the Cyclowns, but my disdain for the crook Calhoun will cause me to root for them. I wouldn't count ISU out against Kentucky. If they are cold from 3 and ISU is hot, they could win. I think ISU has a lot of guys that go through the motions until they have a big game....lots of weapons for ISU.

The difference of the attitudes of the fans in NC and Alabama vs people from Iowa, is the people in Iowa are generally more open minded/tolerant on certain issues.

You dont have to like the other team, but you can still root for them, especially if they are in the underdog role, which around here,
they usually are. It would be different here if the programs were traditionally national perennial powerhouses. It is ok to hate, but not to be a hater!

Again who, besides you, gives a Flying **** about Alabama or Auburn, or North Carolina or Duke.....
Do you not understand what a comparison even is? I never said I cared about them. What I'm trying to get through to you is this. And I'll spell this out in as plain of 5th grade level reading as I can. Those rivalries in AL and NC respectively are true rivalries. Their fan bases don't root for one anothers. They don't even pretend to like the others. So when I see on HAWKEYE NATION message boards that Iowa fans are openly caring about and rooting for ISU in the NCAA tourny I don't like it. So I'm pointing out that fact and I wish Hawk fans would quit doing so.
Exactly. they are true rivalries. iowa/iowa state is not a true rivalry. end of discussion.

Whether I cheer for them or not, I think isu wins this one by 6-8 points.

As far as cheering for them...if it helps Iowa, then I want them to win. Be that RPI in BBall, strength of schedule in FB.

Typically I stop hoping they would win once the post-season events start, but Calhoun bugs me so I would be alright with an isu victory. Calipari is a ****** also, so even a second round win would be ok.

Not sure I could stand to be around clone fans should that happen, but there is part of our fan base that is tough to be around at times also.

I think Kentucky fans have to be more upset then Cyclone fans though. Not like they have an easy task either.

I don't think UK fans have any right to be ticked off. Their team gets the first and second rounds practically on their home floor, as well as the #1 seed. Not sure what more you can ask.

That said, brutal draw for ISU. Seems like all Iowa teams going to the NCAA Tourney always get a draw like this.

Actually, I'm a little surprised ISU wasn't paired up against Southern Miss in the 8/9 game. Larry Eustachy against ISU would have been interesting.

Iowa teams need to quit getting an 8/9 seed. ISU deserved it after the pathetic showing last week. A 7 seed was probably quite possible but they decided it wasn't worth the effort.

Yep, that loss to Texas put them in this situation.

I guess one simple solution to Iowa and ISU is to play better basketball and none of us would have to complain about getting an 8/9 seed.

Without being a high seed yourself of course, getting a 6 or 7 seed seems to be the sweet spot because you are then on the opposite side of the bracket from the 1 seed and wouldn't have to face them until the Elite 8. Which also means you can hope for that 1 seed to get knocked off in the Sweet 16 or earlier. Not that playing a 2 in the second round is a walk in the park, but there's sometimes a significant gap between the 1's and 2's.

If you're an 8/9, obviously that's trouble. Even if you're a 4/5, it sets up for you to meet the 1 seed in the Sweet 16.

Beat Texas and I think you would have been a #6 bumping UNLV, Murray State, or San Diego State. I wonder if Texas would have made the cut.

I'm still ****** about that game to the point of not caring...since ISU obviously didn't. I'll come around by Thursday. Mostly from complete hatred of UCONN.

This Hawk fan will be pulling for you guys. I am tired of hearing all the "experts" clamoring for a Kentucky/UConn matchup.

ISU has just as much talent as Uconn does this year

this will be a close game. whether ISU plays it's best ball or not. NO ONE has been able to run it up on ISU and run them out of the gym. they've been in pretty much every game they've played this year. if I remember correctly they've only lost 1 game by more than ten points all year

Generally agree with this as well as Tecmo's analysis as well.

In my opinion, UConn's length down low will give State some issues. Babb, Allen, Christopherson are going to need to be "on" from deep Thursday night for ISU to win. I don't think White, Ejim, and Booker will be able to have much success banging down low with UConn's bigs. Gibson could play an important role in the game as well.

Defensively, Babb and Christopherson/Allen are going to need to keep both Lamb and Shabazz Napier in check. If those two get some confidence and a little mojo going, watch out. Both were excellent down the stretch in their first round game against WVU in the Big East tourney.

It'd be nice to see State win their first round game - and hopefully they can keep it under 15 to Kentucky.

IMO, ISU got the toughest #9 in the tourney, maybe even the toughest team in all of the 8/9 matchups. Calhoun knows how to win this time of year, evidenced last year, and Drummond, if put on White, can nullify White's presence underneath with no need for help. Lamb and Napier will be very tough for ISU to guard, and then Boatright #9 PG in the country last year, has been playing very well down the stretch on top of it. Tough tough draw, ISU is going to have to be on from 3 to win this one.

The tough part of the selection process... if you get an easy first round game you fear the upset. I'd almost rather have this, if you lose everybody understands. That 2nd game would be a ***** though if they get past the first one. I haven't see uConn all year so I have no idea what they will be up against.

I'll take any draw as opposed to no draw. We'll see what team shows up. It's a salty match up with UCONN for sure.

What is with everyone saying 'salty'? The only time I had ever heard this term is on Sound Off the last couple years with Jon. He would always say ...'they're a pretty salty bunch'. Whatever that's supposed to mean. Are people trying to suck up to Jon? Salty is a description of food, not defenses/sports teams.
