I was finally able to put a finger on a thought related to this team

They don't play for one another...or rather, they have stopped playing for one another. The chemistry they once had is all gone.

I am not saying they don't like each other, but they just don't seem to go out of their way all that much for each other, like close teams do, like last year's Iowa team did.

I am guessing White is tired of how few touches he gets in scoring position where he isn't forced to dribble drive, which is hard for him because people don't respect his jump shot.

Maybe I am wrong...perhaps I am grasping at straws, too...but that's what it looked like from the couch.

I agree 100%! There is something going on here and this team is not playing like a team and they are all individually trying to do their own thing. Here are my 10 things
1. Too much 1 on 1
2. The picks are lazy by the picker and the ball handler
3. Movement without the ball is horrible besides RDM
4. White is gone.... effort is pathetic
5. Gessell is not the answer at point and I am realizing it more and more
6. Nobody is talking on defense at all and they are just making stupid mistakes.
7. Fran needs to drop this good guy act and light a fire under them. At least they played harder. Bring back Fran Knight!
8. We have 2 7 footers and can't get them the ball
9. We have no edge. Example. White is yet to get a foul and he just let the NW player get a layup without physically going for the block and drawing his first foul in the first half. We are 11 deep who cares if you get a couple fouls?
10. This is all between the ears and everything above this can be corrected if this 1 thing is corrected

A few weeks ago I mentioned this team has no leader. No emotion, no enthusiasm. Completely lost.
As for those saying Marble is selfish...the other 4 starters scored how many points? Crickets

Marble HAS to be selfish. He is the reason these stretch games have even been close.

February 22nd at 10:59 AM every single one of you know it alls had not one bad thing to say about this team. It's been 3 weeks and a really rough stretch of basketball no doubt about it..but to the so called Iowa fans suddenly saying maybe we need a new coach or to fire Barta, get a clue!

This board and a lot of Iowa fans are pathetic when we lose games. Sure I get frustrated too..but I'm smart enough to realize things could be a lot worse. We are playing meaningful basketball again..but most Iowa fans are delusional and expect some magical Final Four run or Big Ten Championship and can't accept the fact that we have a coach that has done a great job bringing us back from the dead.

Teams just aren't missing shots against us. We play a zone lately that allows shooters to get open more often than not and usually it's with the shot clock about to expire. Look back at Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan St and now Dave Sobolewski, Dempsey and Crawford of Northwestern...they all made pretty much every shot against us..defense is the problem. We have shot well most games we have lost..but can't stop anyone.

That's the problem. So quit digging for stupid a$$ reasons to why this team is struggling and how selfish Marble is, or how bad of a coach Fran is. We are in the NCAA Tournament..I'm going to be fired up for it! F* ck you if you can't get over yourself and do the same

The problem with this team is they are lazy. On defense the rotations are decent only about half the time, Zero communication. On offense we make no attempt to get in the lane, if Fran had looked at analytics in his life he'd realize most shots should be in the paint or corner threes to be efficient. Iowa has 4 guys shuffling around the 3 line before one take a contested shot from the top. I don't blame Woody for not working because nobody gets him the ball. One of my least liked teams I have ever watched in Iowa bb.

looking at it objectively...Fran's half court offense leaves a LOT to be desired...and his baffling reluctance to full court press with this much "depth", we let teams dictate the pace of play...I don't understand how some people can whine and moan about Kirk being a horrible game day coach...then defend Fran for his game day strategy...it's lacking to say the least.

Just a thought concerning the issue of chemistry on this team; not sure I buy into it as I think it is more of a team that is struggling with the pressure of making an NCAA tournament. But what if part of the rift in chemistry was the all or nothing mentality of the seniors. People criticize the play of marble right now, but the fact is that for him, Basabe, and McCabe this is it for them.

Haven't heard it come up before and just throwing the thought around, but what if part of that chemistry problem lies in the fact that Devyn is trying to carrying the team on his back because it's his last shot and the players that are returning have taken issue with it causing the rift.

Not sure that I see it in this team, but I see it all the time at the highschool level where the juniors and underclassmen have the wait til next year mentality adn the seniors have the now or never mentality. A losing streak can bring out the worst in players and coaches as winning is the best at hiding underlying issues, but i could see this dividing a locker room especially when the team was playing at such a high level months ago and has since lost that "special something" that made them what they were.

I see you're point, but completely disagree with that mentality. I come from the mindset that if I'm not going to see the ball that often then I'm going to be working my tail off to get more opportunities, not giving up. If I'm not getting it on the block then I'm busting my *** for second chance points.

Dude does work early, you see him get on the block and fight. The ball handler looks at him at swings it around or jacks it up. The few guys who work never get rewarded, it's like a pick up game . Eventually you stop because what's the point?

Yeah, Iowa is one of the WORST teams at post entry passes...if I was Woody or Gabe, or even Mel...I would be ticked.

We do have one guy taking a lot of shots, and taking his share of plays off on defense. I still say next years team will be better. I think White, Woody and MG will be better leaders and very tough. I cant remember a team having a complete melt down like this one in the 45 years I have been following the Hawks. I agree with Jon, they are not playing for each other

A few questions:

Is Basabe still sick?

Why did we not attack the rim until the last min?

Does Fran realize how bad he is at utilizing White?

Why are we still playing zone?

A few questions:

Is Basabe still sick? -if he is, then he should probably stop playing and go to a hospital because 4 weeks is a long time to be "sick".

Why did we not attack the rim until the last min? - Marble was attacking all night, everyone else is not very good at it.

Does Fran realize how bad he is at utilizing White? White can't make his own offense and you can't run an offense through him.

Why are we still playing zone? Because when you're in the zone, you're in the zone baby!
