I think it's going to be Keno

I think he will be our next coach. I'm not saying contact has been directly made or anything. But I think the feeling out process has begun. Just the feeling I get based on some conversations I've had in Iowa City.

Should be an interesting couple of weeks.

I love Keno's bloodlines. I love his assistants. I love his style of play. However, similar to my thoughts on Alford, it's too early. I think he'll make a heckuva head coach for Iowa some day.....just not now.

As an aside, while I don't think Keno is the answer to our current issues.....hiring him might be enough to lift the Curse of Mr. Davis. If that's the case, then I'm willing to pull the trigger.

Shoot me now.

I agree, I have a gut feeling this will happen.

After thinking about it I don't think it would be that bad, he could put Mr. Davis on his staff as Director of Basketball Operations and have him on the bench with him for a couple of years to even help with in-game adjustments. Mr. Davis would do everything in his power to make Keno successful at Iowa and wouldn't let him fail.

Cuz Mr. Davis was so good at adjusting his zone defense when opposers were draining three's left and right.

I agree. Although I won't complain if we do hire him. Like I said previously, maybe if the Dr. comes in with him for the first year as an assistant. Bring in some assistants with experience and recruiting ties for a change.

I'm not trying to make a case for him though. It's just the feeling I'm getting.

Man, that would be great! An exciting brand of basketball, a guy who has proven he knows how to build a program and more importantly a guy who has shown he can recruit in a major conference. Throw in the fact that he knows Iowa and all of the positives and negatives of the job and you've got a home run hire.

All I can say is that if Lick would have recruited the players to Iowa that Keno has been able to bring to Providence in just 2 short years, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Just for icing on the cake, Chris Davis is a big time recruiter and with the Davis connections, the staff they would assemble would be terrific.

Go get him Gary!

This coming from someone that thought Lick should get one more year. I would have shot myself had that panned out...

+1

I don't get Stormin's position on this. He is willing to accept failure when it's staring him in the face, but he wants to be shot when someone suggests hiring someone who we have no idea if he'd do well or not.

This is our basketball analyst?

I think you are wrong. Keno is currently making $1 million per year +/-. He hasn't had much success. He would be following in his fathers footsteps the entire time he was at Iowa.

Not that it should play any role in the process, but Keno would probably be very open to the involvement of former players which has apparently been a complaint with each of the last two coaches. Rodell is already on his staff, of course.

Oh my God, you just summarized alfords career at Iowa.

Sorry. Kind of copied your post hawkeyescott. But I thought the same thing as well.

Spank is thinking about the incoming recruits.

Shoot me now.

I agree. You can't fire Lick then go out and get someone who hasn't done well at the school he's at. I don't care what his last name is.

The only slam dunk is Pearl and I'm with Miller & Deace on that one: offer him a blank check

This was posted the other day, so I'm stealing this but here is what Keno's resume would look like:

*Former assistant coach under both Bruce Pearl and Tom Davis (twice)

*Was named national coach of the year by six different organizations

*In three years as a head coach, his teams have reached the postseason twice

*Became first coach to lead a school to the NCAA tournament in 37 years. That team returned only one starter and had been picked to finish NINTH in their conference.

*Led a different school to 19 wins in his first season at the school, including victories against a No. 15 rated team and a No. 1 rated team

*University of Iowa graduate

Doesn't look bad to me!
