I don't agree with running up scores but I don't know how you prevent it when you are using your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th teams. You are NOT going to tell them to just show up. ree, for a number of reasons, I guess, going back to when Iowa, Wisconsin, and the Goofs back in the late 50's and early 60's WERE the teams to beat, I've had a great appreciation for Iowa because I liked Evechevski's (?) style. Even when Fry rubbed our noses into the ground. I hated it but wanted our team to be able to at least compete against it. Of late, in the last 20 years, its been that I respect the program because it has similar obstacles as Wisconsin when it comes to recruiting and a similar style of play. Some on the Badger boards hate my like of the Hawkeye program. Tough! If it isn't us I will always hope that it's you! It's been like that for a while and I hope it continues.
OK, then when Hayden was still throwing down field when up 30, 40, 50 points (which I saw him do first hand) I'll rationalize it by saying the other team simply gave up.
I don't believe you read that I posted anything negative other than he(Fry) had his games that EVERYBODY knows. If you are talking about a backup QB throwing a 40 yard TD against the Goofs when he was running for his life, OK! But Bret didn't call it.
That was Northwestern, 1983. Tom Grogan threw an 86- yard TD to Robert Smith in a game Iowa would eventually win 61-21.
