How obvious is it that Ferentz wants McNutt to hold the records?

Right away during KF's presser this week he starts it off congratulating Marvin on getting some of the records. You didn't see that last year w/ DJK, did you? I'm asking, because I can't recall.

This week, they pull of a ton of bubble screens (something Iowa hasn't gone to in a long, long time) and ends up with 9 catches.

Now he holds the record for yards in season, TDs in a season, yards in a career, TDs in a career. Just missing receptions in a career and season. I think is 8 away from the season record, and maybe 12 for the career (someone help me out). I think that's right.

Yes, it's true you want the ball in the hands of your best player, but I also think part of KF wants it to be McNutt in the books replacing all mention of Mr. DJK. Kasper holds the season record, if I remember correctly.

Maybe I'm crazy.

i don't think that's crazy at all. if it can happen without looking too obvious, i wouldn't be surprised to see us throwing bubble screens to McNutt even if we were getting blown out.

Would you prefer DJK or MMcN to hold those records? Who will be the better long term ambassador toward the program and the university? Maybe KF is trying to make sure that an Iowa WR gets drafted on the first day of the draft for the first time since Moby Dick was a Minnow? Maybe by doing so he and his staff will be able to recruit better WR talent? Wow. This is a toughie. Hmm... drug house (yes, I know the results of those charges, but no one typically remembers that), or great kid, great family, team player. How much time do I have to think about that one?

I honestly do not think DJK is a factor here and this does not sound like KF. McNutt is being targeted a lot because he is the best player on the offense.

1. If I were coaching, I wouldn't be making play calling to get a guy a record so that a different guy's name can be erased from the books. That's both incredibly petty and stupid.

2. We ran an end around pass to DJK to try and get him the receptions record in style last year. Sure, things changed a little after that (understatement), but it's not like KF and DJK were best buddies even before his arrest (again, understatement).
 
1. Great player
2. Senior
3. Best offensive player
4. He deserves all the records given the fact that we discussed this in the offseason.
5. Coach Ferentz always mentions how Marvin gets better every single week. That means he's leading and practicing when the spotlight isn't on him.
 
I don't see a problem with it being obvious, I guess. He's thriving. Constantly shows signs of improvement and dominance at the spot. Might as well open the floodfgates and let it roll.
 
The only thing that's obvious is Iowa wants the ball in the hands of their best player...I don't see Kirk sitting on the sidelines in KOK's ear saying "I know Davis, KMM and C.J. have been getting open all day, but you know I...I just can't...do it! F*CK YOU DJK! Call Marvin's number again dammit!"...I love a good conspiracy theory but this one would need a good magic bullet...

So in conclusion,yes stormin...it IS just you! :p
 
Wow this is funny. We b***h when our coaches don't play to win and last time I checked the FB coaches for dummies manual it says get the ball to your best player. We killed Coach Fry for not using Timmy but kill KF for using MMcN and Coker too much. Now we get out our DJK colored glasses and complain about going to MMcN too much. Don't get it.

Ummm... I'm not complaining that McNutt is getting the ball too much. How in the world did you draw that conclusion?

I don't think you're crazy but McNutt is our best player. I wonder why in the heck we haven't got him the ball more in some games earlier in the season. If we want to win he needs many touches and some jump balls in my opinion

I guess the 9 bubble screen comment and the other post I've seen about us using guys too much. I did use "WE" in my comment so lt was directed to the board not you in general. Of course he wants MMcN to have the records. He's been a outstanding citizen and should be the record holder. DJK made his choices.
 
IMO the main reason Iowa is going to McNutt so much is because he is far and away a better WR than DJK.

Bigger, better athlete, better teammate, just watching them play and move around the field it is clear that McNutt is a much better player.
