8 out of 11 season Fry finished in AP top 20. My official position is that both are good coaches. I believe Fry maximized what he had to work with and I feel kirk has not. honestly, kirk is a good coach and i think iowa could have been much better, if not for his ultra conservative nature. we all know it's cost us wins over 19 seasons.

I honestly do get where you’re coming from and I don’t feel there is a better available (and willing) alternative, but any coach will end up 4th in B1G wins if they stay there long enough. And KF has been in office one hell of a long time compared to the rest of the current coaches.

Winning percentage would be a fair comparator, and when you compare KF to guys with similar or longer tenures like Hayes, Paterno, Schembechler, etc., Ferentz isn’t even in the same zip code. Not even close in record, winning percentage, B1G titles, or strength of OOC schedules.

Like I said I understand your point but it’s a huge stretch using total wins to consider him in the company of the greats.

Big Ten Coach of the Year is a committee’s opinion. Otherwise the B10 COTY would go to the guy who won the conference every year, correct?

Winning percentage and final standings in the Big Ten are all that counts when you look at a coach purely from a performance perspective. Did he win a high percentage of his games or didn’t he?

I’m not saying he’s a shit coach, btw. He’s better than most and I don’t know of anyone available I’d take as a replacement. But to call the guy a legend and put him in the same light as the caoches you just mentioned is absurd.

At the end of the day it’s a game and the whole point is to win. Period.
