How Do All The Ferentz Boot Lickers

KF's heyday, we were worried about losing him to the NFL and we all thought he was a Godsend. From '01-'05, his teams won 45 games, his best 5 year stretch. We may never see that again, or anything close to it. Well, except for the last 5 years, when his teams won 43 games. Am I tickled with an 8 win season? No, even though the win expectations this year were somewhere less than 8 (Vegas had the O/U at 6.5). Am I satisfied with 3 8-win seasons, a 7-win season and a 12 win season in 5 years? I guess, but like everyone else, I'd like more. I don't know what it would take to make me satisfied, because I always want more. It's not ideal, but it's not the gloom and doom so many make it out to be.

Not get they are the ones who have set the low expectations for this program, that have led to the need to whoop and poop your pants over beating Boston in a December, NY blizzard to culminate a magical 5 loss season??

How many games have you coached, genius?

Y do you waste part of your short time on earth watching and commenting on here if this is really how you feel?

Well said. I would bet the positive and the negative posters all want to win more the exact same. The only difference is our understanding of how hard it is to win more.

In Barry's best 5-year span, they won 47 games. That span was sandwiched by losing seasons. In his other 11 seasons, he won 8 or more games 4 times.

Dudes like 4th all time in B1G wins ever. Ever. Like, since they started playing football in the Big Ten.
I honestly do get where you’re coming from and I don’t feel there is a better available (and willing) alternative, but any coach will end up 4th in B1G wins if they stay there long enough. And KF has been in office one hell of a long time compared to the rest of the current coaches.

Winning percentage would be a fair comparator, and when you compare KF to guys with similar or longer tenures like Hayes, Paterno, Schembechler, etc., Ferentz isn’t even in the same zip code. Not even close in record, winning percentage, B1G titles, or strength of OOC schedules.

Like I said I understand your point but it’s a huge stretch using total wins to consider him in the company of the greats.

Iowa State loses 5 games and they talk about Campbell as if he is the second coming of you know who. We hang 55 on Ohio State, 56 on Nebraska, beat "up and coming" Iowa State on their field, and then defeat a Boston College team every bit as good as Iowa State and ranked in the top 25 on all of the computer polls, and we are "pooping our pants."

Was it a magical season? Of course not. But why not celebrate for Jewell, Wadley and the other seniors?

8 wins with the 4th toughest schedule in the United States (Massey Ratings) isn't a great season, but it is a very good one.

How many wins would Ferentz have had coaching for 19 seasons at Ohio State or Penn State? Have you ever thought about that? I think Ferentz as a coach is superior in every way to Tressel and Paterno, and I KNOW he is a better human being. To win 143 at Iowa in 19 seasons (140 the past 17 years, averaging over 8 wins per season) is an amazing accomplishment.

He will be a hall of fame coach, and deservedly so.

Winning 4 cupcake non con games, and having a losing record of 4-5 in conference play in a very weak division is hardly what I would call a very good season. Several teams hung a bunch of points on Nebraska, the OSU game was simply a fluke, but yes we did gut one out against ISU. Gonna miss Jewell, Wadley, and the other seniors for sure, as they were great Hawkeyes. Feel bad for Akrum as we have a staff that cannot figure out how to use talented players. We won't have a threat like him for some time on offense.

How do you and KF-Haters not get that throwing hissy fits doesn’t change any W or L this year and isn’t going to change anything next year.

The only way you’re going to change anything is don’t buy tickets, don’t buy gear, don’t come here or other websites and add more clicks that prove the Hawkeyes are still popular, don’t buy from advertisers, don’t watch games on tv.

You just have to man up and go all meh-Hawk like Lickliter BB years. If there’s enough of you, you can be the change and take great pride in telling the rest of us Hawk fans how right you were all along.

Some people in this world just aren't happy unless they have something to complain about. Yes, I'd like them to open up the offense. Yes, I'd like them to win more games. But we all know for a fact that Kirk has a contract that has a big buyout clause, so Kirk is our coach for the foreseeable future. All of our carping here isn't going to change that.

Why would anyone put an actor on Hawkeye Rushmore? Tom Arnold next?

You're kidding, right? Two time first team All American, Outland Trophy winner, runner up Heisman voting (one of only 3 linemen in history to finish that high). Has to be among the greatest to play at Iowa. He became an actor after a very successful NFL career.

Let's see how the teams who beat Iowa fare in their bowls. Purdue and MSU have already won, and I like the chances of the others as well. Iowa had the 6th toughest schedule in the country!

I think he was probably joking.

At many programs, "staying long enough" wouldn't be an option for two reasons:
-really high expectations of, say, a Mich or Neb...lose even 3 games you might get fired.
-you could stay a really long time at an Indiana and if you weren't a great coach and recruiter, you'd never wind up where Kirk is.

He's been in office a long time because he wins a lot, develops players, and is a good coach.
