Gatens to NBA?

Is there such a thing as a free throw specialist? I think he would thrive in that role. He comes in the game right when Dwight Howard is getting hacked. This is the only mythical role I could come up with for Matt. On a serious note he is a great hawk and one whom I could see as a grad assistant down the road.
Hey get out of here dude. Don't you know your suppose to call me a moron and tell me how much of a scrub gatens is. This isn't a friendly thread take your positiveness somewhere else.

Ssckelley your acting ignorant. Glad I got all the crazies posting today. Never once did I say he would be good or get drafted just asked for opinions. Not to be called stupid just for posting a simple question. For real there are a lot of tools on this board. We're all hawk fans and we should be decent to eachother.

If you are going to ask for opinions then expect honest ones. Not all Hawk fans walk around drunk on black and gold kool aid all the time.

At least not during basketball season. :D

Gatens could have a very nice career overseas if he so chooses. I don't believe he is an NBA player. Heckuva golfer though, maybe he should give Q school a try.

As often as Matt gets blocked now, it would be 10 times worse in the NBA. His shot is not consistent enough and his defense reactive enough to play in the NBA.

You guys are crazy. Not because of your opinions but how much of a tool most of you sound like. You'd think I posted this on the clown board with how bad I got attacked. Go back to your kozan threads.

You don't watch much NBA do you...

Gatens isn't quick and Korver has 2 inches on him and is a better shoooter.

Someone give me a good reason he can't make it there. Hes quick, got 2 gaurd size, and a great shot. Idk how good he'd be but I don't see why he couldn't come off the bench like a kyle korver? Tell me why you think he can or can't make it.

Not a chance. He is NOT quick compared to a two guard in the NBA. Also he has a very mediocre shot.

Devin Marble, on the other hand, is an NBA player.

Marble isn't just yet anyway. If he gains ten more pounds and keeps improving his J and skills he has the "potential" for sure.

Marble is nowhere near an NBA player yet. He needs a jumper and must play better D. He can get there, but needs work.

I understand What your saying but actually he and korver shoot close to the same % and Korver is extremely slow.

Dude, Korver shot 45% from 3 over his college career and 48% as a senior. Gatens can't even sniff that.

Gatens has a good work ethic and has been a nice leader for Iowa. He'd be nothing more than a role player at schools that compete for the Sweet 16 year in and year out.

As far as the next level goes... I think Gatens would struggle to crack the starting 5 for the Iowa Energy. No joke.

I wouldn't count him out, but if Adam Haluska couldn't make it, I think Matt will have a hard time. Haluska much better off the dribble and a better outside shooter on his career.

I don't think that anybody is bashing you or Matt. He is a solid player and I would hate to think where the program would be if he would have left. I give him a lot of credit for sticking through it all. That said the college game and the NBA game are worlds apart. If you can't take someone off the dribble you almost have no shot in the NBA. He is added to a long list of good/great players in the college who's game doesn't translate to the NBA.

The first sentence of this might be the craziest thing I've ever seen written or heard from Mr. Miller ever.

Heres a good question though, has Gatens developed into a better defender than Haluaska or Horner though? I've really been impressed with what he has become as a defender. I'm not saying he's athletic enough to defend top tier nba players, but he works on defense harder than any Hawk SG I can think of.
