Gatens to NBA?

Does nobody here watch the NBA? I mean seriously, the only way you could seriously ask a question this stupid is if you'd never seen an NBA game in your life. Gatens isn't even in the top 15 best players in the Big 10. He's been a great Hawkeye, but he's not a great basketball player.

Unfortunately.... no. He is no Haluska and Haluska was a much better athlete and couldnt hang. I dont see it.

Haluska could not even make it in the D League and overall he was much a better scorer than Gatens. If Gatens wants to make a pro career out of basketball I doubt it will be in the states.

About the only one on the Iowa roster I see could even have a chance in the NBA is Marble. If he keeps working on his ball handling skills and shooting touch he might have the athleticism to make an NBA roster as a backup point guard. But that is a long shot.

You are wrong on the Haluska thing. Adam Haluska D-League Statistics | Basketball-Reference.com He was pretty damn good in the D-League before he got hurt. Agree with rest of your thoughts thou.

Switching gears just a bit, who thinks Gatens will earn 2nd team All Big 10 honors? I believe he will get it because a) he's had a very nice year, and b) he'll get some love as a senior, being a 4 year starter, and sticking w/ a downtrod program through some rough times

Not a bad feather in your cap considering the talent in the Big 10 this year

Gatens isn't a great college shooter. He would not make it in the NBA as a three point specialist and he's not good enough at anything else to make it as anything else.

He isn't even a 3-point specialist at Iowa, let alone for the NBA.

You guys are crazy. Not because of your opinions but how much of a tool most of you sound like. You'd think I posted this on the clown board with how bad I got attacked. Go back to your kozan threads.

You said this:

Someone give me a good reason he can't make it there.

That's what people did.

Who is Gatens quick in comparison to is what I want to know. He can't guard anybody. If he was on the Iowa team during the Horner days he wouldn't even have started. Adam was alot better a player then Matt. There is a 0 percent chance of him getting drafted and not much more then that of getting a tryout. He's got Euro written all over him. Korver is taller bigger alittle more athletic compared to Matt. Not to mention a way better shooter. He's about as good of a shooter as there's ever been. Comparing Matt to Korver isn't even fair.

Oh, you wanted the homer responses in this thread. Sorry about that.

Yeah Gatens is going to be an awesome NBA player. Perhaps a lottery pick!

I look forward to Gatens having his own "Decision" announcement in a few years. I wonder where he'll take his talents to.

Ssckelley your acting ignorant. Glad I got all the crazies posting today. Never once did I say he would be good or get drafted just asked for opinions. Not to be called stupid just for posting a simple question. For real there are a lot of tools on this board. We're all hawk fans and we should be decent to eachother.

Is there such a thing as a free throw specialist? I think he would thrive in that role. He comes in the game right when Dwight Howard is getting hacked.
This is the only mythical role I could come up with for Matt.

On a serious note he is a great hawk and one whom I could see as a grad assistant down the road.

How many successful NBA guards are unable to create their own shot?
What I mean by create is: create their own 'space' to get open to shoot the jumper.
Unless Gatens is wide open or the team sets him screens, he's going nowhere.
Gatens cannot create space for his own shot. He's not a good one-on-one player.
He's Steve Alford-like.

One person said it was a dumb question. Calm down.
