Gatens to NBA?

Someone give me a good reason he can't make it there. Hes quick, got 2 gaurd size, and a great shot. Idk how good he'd be but I don't see why he couldn't come off the bench like a kyle korver? Tell me why you think he can or can't make it.

I don't think he can make it. He's not overly quick as you say, and his shot is ok, but not even close to Korver's. As much as I like Gatens his drive/jumper in the lane isn't want the NBA is looking for and I just don't think he's quite athletic enough to get it done.

I understand What your saying but actually he and korver shoot close to the same % and Korver is extremely slow.

I just think that if a guy like Horner or Haluska can't really come close to making a team then Gatens probably can't either. Haluska got a small sniff but not real shot at it. I think Korver is a much better shooter and he is a little bigger.

Seriously? Or is this some attempt at humor?

Gatens is no where near the shooter as Korver. Gatens is shooting 35% in college and Korver shoots 41% in the NBA and shot 45% in college. (3 pointers)

Haluska led the Big Ten in scoring, and was first team all-league,and he could not make the NBA. He was bigger, stronger, more athletic and a better shooter than Matt.

It is really, really, really, really hard to make the NBA. Jon Scheyer of Duke,all-american, cannot get a sniff.
I love me some Matty but he is destined to play in Europe or elsewhere. Not a bad gig, tho, just ask Bru.

Most of the guys his age that have the ability to play in the NBA are already in the NBA.

Its becomeing more and more rare for a guy his age to even get drafted. Last year only 19 of 60 draft picks were college SRs.

Korver is strictly an outside shooter, and is better than Gatens. Gatens is good, but relies on the drive too much if you want to consider him for the NBA.

End of thread.

Exactly. I don't quite get where the perception comes from that Gatens is a deadly shooter - he's been below 35% from the arc the past 3 seasons. He's a great FT shooter, yes. But his outside shot is just OK.

Gatens isn't a great college shooter. He would not make it in the NBA as a three point specialist and he's not good enough at anything else to make it as anything else.

It is a long shot, but if he does he will have to specialize in something: 3 pt. shooting, on the ball defender, 12th man hustle guy, towel waver on the bench. Otherwise his skill set simply isn't good enough, not even close.

If I ever hear another announcer say "Gatens to the line, these are automatic." or "Wow that is a rare miss." my head may explode. They were automatic as a frosh. He still is a good FT shooter, just not as good as the announcers make him out to be.
Good BIG10 player and average shooter=Euroball

Jon Scheyer also nearly lost his vision during a summer league game before his rookie year.

Like I said in another thread, Gatens is a poor man's David Lighty, who was a better athlete, shooter and defender and he's not in the league. Matt has no chance.

I love Gatens. But, he is a good yet not great college shooter. Combined with his lack of size and athletisism and he has no shot. I'm sure he could bounce around the semi-pro leagues for a few years though.

I think he will definitely be in the league next year. He will be perfect on the Iowa Energy! We are talking D-league right?

Haluska could not even make it in the D League and overall he was much a better scorer than Gatens. If Gatens wants to make a pro career out of basketball I doubt it will be in the states.

About the only one on the Iowa roster I see could even have a chance in the NBA is Marble. If he keeps working on his ball handling skills and shooting touch he might have the athleticism to make an NBA roster as a backup point guard. But that is a long shot.
