Fran's got a great gig...

I'm already pretty much checked out, to be honest. With this start... Disappointing place to be when it's still November, I agree, given that I thought this year's team would be an NCAA squad. Doesn't look likely now. Guess I shouldn't give up on the season so quickly, but after the last couple decades, it's pretty obvious that I'm suffering from a fatigue of some sort. Call it apathy if you want. Seen this movie too many times. Even best case scenario? The team rebounds and sneaks into the dance, and gets destroyed in the 2nd round by a 1 or 2 seed? We just don't have the talent to hang with the big boys.

I'm probably going to get roasted for this, but I'm at the point where I'd like to see someone like John Calipari on our sidelines for 5-10 years before he bolts, just to see what he can do. There, I said it. I know, I know - it's not happening, but one can dream. I just want a taste of high level basketball even if it's just a few years. Sure, I'd prefer we do it the "right way" too, but realistically... it's not realistic. To me, it's just basketball. Not the Red Cross.

I'm tired of thinking back to the 1986-87 season for the only time in my lifetime where Iowa had an elite team. Ancient history. Give me a Sweet 16 or Elite 8, even.

All that said, I will stand by my word and give Fran through next season before I join the lynch mob.
I think Larry Brown is available. Guaranteed W's and deep runs into the NCAA followed by sanctions BUT at least it would be really fun for 3-4 years!

I do feel sorry for JBo he's totally been a misfit at PG because Fran has been unable to recruit a stinking PG. It's unfortunate for that kid. Plenty of playing time but he's absolutely shaky as hell out front with a true PG in his face.

Meh, I have said a lot dumber things than that. Generally I don't post after losses, as I'm typically pretty pissed off.

Dean I got to hand it to you. You can laugh about yourself. You readily walk right into saying...well dumb things and you own it. Proud of you.

Fran has put him in a bad spot but it's hard for me to feel sorry for him when he tweets the things he does and then goes and acts like a baby on the court.

Put him in a tough spot? He plays a ton of minutes for a Big 10 team. I'm pretty sure this is his dream spot to be in.

Should Fran stay or should he go.....

Does anyone remember the mess we had under Lick's supervision.....

Fran joined the team at an all-time low for modern Hawkeye basketball.....

Carver was a morgue under and after LickBall.....

We have had vast improvement in that respect, although we still need to put the STUDENTS on the floor all around,,,,,

We must maintain patience. It is coming.....

I say: Let him stay.....

Kirk just checks more positive boxes than Fran does. He's more likable as a person and has actually accomplished things worth noting.

never said kirk hasn't accomplished things. but kirk's program has also under performed for stretches of time, yet people make excuses for him: "we're just iowa", etc. why doesn't that excuse apply to fran? kirk gets to rebuild, but fran doesn't. kirk's 2010 team was a flop after the 2009 season, but kirk was given a pass. We expect good things from fran's team this season based on progression, but when the team falters at the start, it's time to fire fran.

fran has also accomplished things, like putting out a dumpster fire and bringing iowa basketball back from the dead. folks, we were THE worst hoops program in the B1G with almost zero D1, let alone, B1G level talent in the program. We've been a NIT/NCAA tourney team the last 7 seasons.

I dont want us getting rid of any coaches under our current AD. We need to dump Barta first. Then we can clean house.

Not that I want Fran gone. But he is turning into a FKF type coach. He just cant get it done. Has a good season when his players mature, then a couple bad until his players mature. We have seen this pattern for the last 19 years in our football program.

He had 4 seasons straight with 20+ wins and had 19 wins just last season and just missed the tourney after joining a complete dumpster fire of a basketball program. I don't see the pattern your speaking of.

Our team was about 2 wins worse last year. I guess that's what you get with immature players.

There is a big difference between losing our last big class and losing our next big class. Last time we had one good player in Jok and one ok player in Baer in the next 3 classes. This time we will have Nunge, Garza, Connor, Wiescamp, and Patrick to soften the blow.

I don't see a Big Ten title anywhere in our future. Or a Sweet 16.
What I do see is that Barta has managed to lower the expectation level by hiring Lickliter, watch him bottom out our basketball program to the point where the idiots will lap up a 20 win season, like it's mothers milk. Then he can charge whatever he wants and the idiots will pay it. They'll have to rename "Stockholm Syndrome" to "Hawkeye Syndrome". Barta's holding your expectations hostage and you're thanking him for it.

when a person uses name calling in their argument against those with an opposing viewpoint, that person has already lost the argument (and internally, they know it).

When was the last time Iowa won the B1G? It was Lute Olsen in '79. So the Iowa baskeball measuring stick Mr. Davis Davis actually managed to never win the B1G. So, seems like Fran is on the same path as Mr. Davis.

What's ridiculous is we missed a Big 10 title by about 5 points a couple years ago. And that was during a year where the conference was really tough. How can you say Fran will never win one when he was already so close once?

Correct. Every coach since Lute Olsen has FAILED.

Care to place a wager on it? If it's so ridiculous, it should be easy money for you. How much of my money do you wish to take. Don't be shy. Be greedy.

What's even more ridiculous is that you can't put a time frame on actual results. It's always "next year" with the Jim Jones crowd.

Well if a coach was told we will fire them if they don't win a title after x number of years, do you really think they would come here? There isn't a coach in the world that would come to Iowa under those stipulations.
