Fran McCaffrey deserves to be fired

Not against good teams, Fran hasn't beaten a B10 team with a winning record in three years.

Dude check your facts, they hammered a Maryland team last year that went 14-4 in the Big Ten. They also beat Ohio State that was 11-7. And the year before that they beat Michigan who was 15-3, Ohio State 10-8, Nebraska 11-7. That is 5 in 2 years.

Call for his head if you want but stop making stuff up.

Have you watched ANY basketball other than this game? My guess is 95% of teams' press breakers inbound the ball to either their center or their power forward (both are there for the inbound pass); and over half have their taller forward inbound the ball. Woody being there to catch the inbound is what SHOULD happen. He then should immediately look for one of the guards to pass off to.

How soon we forget: who did Mr. Davis have inbound the ball against the press? Usually Roy Marble. Who did Roy throw it to to inbound the ball? Brad Lohaus. And who did Brad look for right away to pass the ball to? BJ Armstrong. So our forward who could handle the ball and make decisions (Marble / Uthoff) inbounded the ball to our center (Lohaus / Woodbury) who immediately looks for the point guard (Armstrong / Gesell). When you get down to X's and O's they don't change that much.

Lohaus inbounded the ball for Mr. Davis as Much as anyone..

So your qualification of a good team is "a B10 team with a winning record"? So we lost last year at then #20 Ohio State? And at Michigan? And at then #17 Maryland? And at Illinois? And at Indiana? All of these teams had winning records, the worst being Indiana. All of these teams made the NCAA tournament last year as well. Are you trying to rewrite history?

So two wins over B10 teams with winning records in the last three years? Wow

No, for sure 5 in the last 2 years, I'm not going to check back the 3rd year. My point is stop making crap up when you don't do any research. Just like you said Iowa hasn't been over .500 under Fran in the Big Ten and f**king went 12-6 just LAST YEAR.

There is shame in losing by 1 at Hilton when you had a 20 pt. lead in the second half. If this was a game that we didn't have a chance in or were fighting to stay alive the majority of it then I think that statement hits the mark. We owned them the first half and were the dominant team. They made the changes we made the mistakes. While you may be right that not many thought we had a chance going in, but there is shame. The run we allowed and our inability to keep possession in the final minute ruined everything we'd built up in the first half. They should be ashamed of the loss.

^this

Many bad plays down the stretch, but but taking that 5 second call and not calling timeout there was probably the play of the game. We just can't give the ball back to them there on that.

We should have our best defense on the court at the end, I would have Baer in instead of Jok for sure. We can then call the timeout after a made shot and sub our scorers in.

Thanks. My night is so much better for not having seen that. I'd love to hear Fran's explanation for not calling the timeout.

I already know what the explanation is. These are senior players on the floor. They already know what to do. There is no reason to call a TO and give isu a chance to switch up defenses or adjust.

The only problem with that explanation is that it certainly didn't look like they knew what to do or how to do it.

One five second call on the inbounds and a second terrible inbounds pass that resulted in a turnover. Two completely blown inbounds plays giving them two possessions is terrible. That is not winning the game by the clowns, that's us losing the game. I can absolutely take a los by a better team that outplayed us, but this was not that.

I'm not going to read a single post in this thread...obvious meltdown thread. I will say that firing Fran...even suggesting it...is idiotic.

^^ I honestly have more of a problem with not attacking the rim then I do not burning the Time Out to set something up. It's a one point game and 9 seconds is an eternity for most teams. I don't think you need to let them set up their defense but I don't think I'll ever figure out why you settle for a 24 or 25 footer (regardless of who's shooting it) when you only need 2 for the win and have time to attack the rim and possibly get fouled.

Fine, so four losing conference records in five years, big ******* deal.

Again that would be a NO. Before last year they were 9-9 the previous 2 years so they haven't had a losing Big Ten record in 3 years.

9-9 isn't great but sure beats the 4-14 years of the Lick era. People should realize after that hire that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Regardless of last night this program is still headed in the right direction. At least look at all the facts over the last 3 years before deciding this program is going downhill after a 1 point road loss to the #4 team in the nation.

I'm sure glad Barta didn't take this advice. See why people should let a season play out. Unlike football, losing one or two games in basketball doesn't mean the end. And especially when the game is in December. Sure ISU won, but I'll get more enjoyment out of Iowa having a better season, so they can have their win, I'll take having the better overall season every year.

Great bump. A nice complement to the retweets of all the "Iowa is an NIT team" tweets from November-December.

well done.

Exhibit A for why you don't overreact to one game, albeit easier said than done.

Fran is a good coach. I fully underestimated this team when I thought they were "NIT material". Of course, that was after the earlier losses. Seems to be a different team now.

I thought some old threads might get bumped today. I love Fran...always have. Uthoff sure seems like a leader to me in every interview I've heard...and in the way he plays. If Woodbury can't/shouldn't play and has no talent then we're 4-0 in the Big 10 playing 4 guys against 5. And I remember the threads about how people would rather have Morgan than Jok and that Jok would never be able to guard anyone. And I remember how Clemmons would never amount to anything. There's no end to this drivel.
