Ferentz's time

Dozed off after the Wisconsin game in 2010, just woke up "what 'd I miss?"

I'm still a Ferentz guy, but if he were to walk away, I would pay Fitz 4 million a year. He's the best coach in the conference.

I know this is trolling, but I will respond. A guy like Bob Diaco. Coordinator at a big time program that has recruited. Worked for a guy that can recruit. Iowa ties. I would think he would like to see Iowa succeed. He played under Hayden so I'd like to think he would beat the snot out of teams that he should and not play it close. I think we have all seen what happens when you have a guy that can recruit at Iowa (Fran). I think keeping it young is a good way to start recruiting and go with a guy who has been around a HC that is good at recruiting.
I'm on board with JDM on this one; I'll take Biels. Everything you've said here applies to him as well. Biels was the man who stole Iowa's mojo, and he is the man who can bring it back.

Biels is pretty much a Ferentz clone. Boring offense and 4-3 bend but don't break D. Dude just had JJ Watt and Russell Wilson. The "experts" on here will settle for nothing less than Oregon's offense and Alabama's defense.

Whenever the day comes I would hope this fella is on Iowa's radar...........

____________________________________________________

* Head coach experience (as well as other positions) and still moving up the success ladder with his resume

* Strong performance record thus far

* Midwest background & family

* Coaching experience in the Big 10

* In his young 40's

Timing may or may not be good as he was just appointed at NC State but would like to believe if he continues to do well he might like to migrate out of ACC football, closer to the Midwest, and on to a more prestigious conference/program. I'm not hung up on whether the next fella needs to come from the Iowa program. That's too restrictive.......just need to find the best coach and best fit. I think Doeren will continue to do well and don't believe NC State will be his last stop.

And Lane Kiffin.

I am not a Lane Kiffin enthusiast, but his problem is lack of scholarships. That's starting to affect the team now. I think this year they are down 20 scholarships? That's a lot and a big reason why they are not good.

Honestly, I think this is the way we'll see Kirk end up leaving. On his own terms. If Iowa is 4-8 or worse this year I wouldn't be shocked if he walked away. I know some of you would be, and I know some will make comments about all he cares about is money. I just think that's a load of crap at this point. He's made enough money to live comfortably, and he made it pretty clear offseasons like this last one are incredibly taxing. At some point enough is enough.

He and his agent worked out a nice contract for himself, but I have a very hard time believing he's the greedy jerkoff some people try to make him out to be. I wouldn't even be surprised if he donated a significant portion of his buyout to the Children's Hospital. It's not something that he would want made public, but I think deep down that's the kind of guy he is. Very few people care more about the University than he does. I have a hard time believing there is anyone who takes this downward trend any harder than Kirk Ferentz. He's a proud guy. Most football coaches who have seen signifcant levels of success are extremely proud. It can't be easy watching something you built from the ground up fall back to mediocrity. I truly believe he's been doing the best he can to make Iowa successful. If he comes to the realization that his way just isn't working anymore then he'll sacrifice himself in order to do what is best for the University.

I think you are underestimating the competetive spirit of KF. No way he walks away, someone does not get to where he got by giving up. Now don't get me wrong I would love to see him move on, but he won't just retire. He will, and should always believe he can win, because if he doesn't he would not be coaching at the D1 level at a program like IA. I wish he would transition to a co-head coach (figure head) hire a Bobby Diaco (improved defense) move Phil back to coaching D-Backs only and make Bobby D the Defacto head coach. I can see how this would work and be a great transition to move forward as an aging KF moves toward retirement. One more thing that would need to happen in this scenario is to can GD and bring someone in that could put together a cohesive offensive plan that adapted to the players on the roster. It will never happen but this is my pipe dream.

If Iowa has replaced most all of it's asst coaches and coordinators and is still losing, then there is only one person left to replace. It's time. FACT

Yep, it's time and it won't happen. Accept reality and live life to the fullest because your team won't be.

No one mentions Mark Stoops but myself. Former Iowa player, and he is getting experience in the coaching ranks. Assistant at OU, Arizona, D.C. at Florida, now H.C. at Kentucky. He is doing quite well.

Glad to see another hawk fan has come to this realization. Kirk has let the talent level slip to MAC levels, nobody else is to blame but him. He dug this hole, I have no desire to wait for him to dig his way out of it.

I really hope that Iowa connections play ZERO part in the hiring process This is an antiquated notion that severely limits the hiring pool. If the best candidate happens to be a former player/coach so be it, but the short list had better not be exclusively those kind of guys.

Speaking of that, how come Hayden's son never got into coaching?

I don't see this. I think pride takes too big of a role here (Not to be mistaken with vanity). No way does KF want his career, or at least his career at Iowa to end on two 4-8 seasons. I understand KF is a pretty conservative guy when it comes to keeping his emotions in check, but that doesn't mean there still isn't a fire underneath all of that. In truth, the only person who knows if he is mailing it in is himself.
