Ferentz to Philadelphia??

Boy I really hate to start a thread about this but here it goes. Philly recently abruptly let Chip Kelly go. Is there any way at this point that Ferentz could possibly end up in Philly? Does Philly have a hire in mind the way it went down?

The only reason I entertain this is that in the past, Ferentz wanted his boys to play & graduate from Iowa. He had reasons to stay then in recent years had a downturn so didn't get many overtures from the NFL. Do you think he still has any interest at all coaching in the NFL at his age now? If he does, with the success of this year, he may think this could be his last and only chance.

The reason Philly is so intriguing is that it is his home state and has two NFL teams. He has stated in the past that he would need the perfect situation. I don't know. But when Philly let Kelly go it just made me think. Letting him go the week of the major bowl games so they could possibly have a coach in mind after the games this week. I'm not even sure they would even go the college coach route, but Ferentz is unique with his NFL experience, especially under Belichek.

OK. You may blast me now with the proverbial "Here we go again thread...."!!:p
There is a better chance BF has a different job next year of some kind then KF. First Philly would have to want KF. I seriously think after the debacle that Kelly has been Lurie won't be looking at college coaches at all. He'll go after a retread or next hot coordinator. I just can't see KF taking a different job. I think he's as cemented in as a guy can be. That ship has sailed. And I think he'd like to hand the torch off to BF if possible and the easiest way to do that would be for him to stay 2 to 4 more yrs with BF being the OC a couple of those at least. The new president and possibly AD may not be all about that and who knows what'll happen in that length of time from now either but I think there's just a better chance of the Ferentzs wanting and hoping for that instead of a short stint in the NFL.

Kirk Ferentz is not going to Philly... or any other NFL team now... never... at all... period. Where does this crazy crap come from?

I was listening to the podcast and I think Ferentz could be a barista at a Starbucks drive-thru in Coralville and he could talk football with all the suburban moms in SUV's getting their morning latte.

Hes not going anywhere he will/has be filled with robotic components to ensure he coaches at Iowa forever.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Pats want to snatch him away to replace Belichek as it looks like the game has passed him by and they need a sharper football mind to lead Brady the rest of the way.

1. He grew up in Pennsylvania
2. His personality is largely the opposite of Chip Kelly
3. Going to the Rose Bowl affords him the opportunity to go out on top in college football.

Bingo, there you go, it's settled. If New England doesn't fire Belichick and get Kirk first, he's your new Eagles head coach of football.

Ferentz just busted his bum to get the new facilities built at Iowa and I'm sure he would like to reap the benefits of all that work. He also might have a top 10 program going into next season and he's 60 years old. Lots of reasons not to worry about the NFL anymore.

I don't see him fitting in with the Eagles either. Dealing with east coast media and prima donna athletes in the NFL just doesn't seem like KF's thing at all.

86 has it nailed.

He's here to stay and he still has a son, JR OL Steve, on the IA roster. From the official Hawkeyesports website roster:

As a Cleveland Browns fan, I spend time on their Scout site and Kirk's name has been coming up over there. At this point in his career, I don't think he would leave Iowa, but he does have a history there.

Do you guys remember that Super Bowl fun fact from last year where the final two teams had no four star or five star recruits among their starters? Ferentz can totally succeed in a place like Seattle or New England. If anything, he deserves some of Belichicks rings because all of them came after he met Ferentz.

Many have brought up his age. Really, is 60 that old? Is that old for an NFL coach. He's still in terrific shape & I think he's a young 60.

He can have all the Franwiches he wants because the Franwich is really just a philly cheesesteak with hayden fries on the side.

MelroseHawkins is the instigator this time. I agree with Mopkins and Nilin. Ferentz just got the new facilities and his son hasn't graduated yet. I really do believe B. Ferentz will be the heir apparent when papa retires in 2020.

What if Ferentz went on the Maury Povich show and they did a DNA test and found out PJ Fleck was his son? How about that? Does that change things?

Not a chance. The NFL ship sailed about 6-8 years ago. At his age Kirk is looking to ride off onto the sunset. The amount of work it would take to resurrect Philly wouldn't be worth it Philly fans, media, I don't think so. If it was Pittsburgh he might have a little more of a chance but I doubt it. 60 years old is not an age where you look to start over.

And count me in as a fan that does not want BF as the next head coach. Maybe I'll be wrong if BF gets to be head coach and win a national championship. But a national championship is my goal, now. B1G championship should always be in sight.
