Ferentz' postgame quote on CJ

Is it passive-aggressive and petulant to make personal attacks on a website without using your real name?

Criticizing for bad decisions on- or off-the-field is one thing.
But to personally attack KF with the qualifier "I've never met him" sounds petulant and stupid, too.

You can spin his comments as you wish, but they fall in with an increasingly obvious pattern. Stubborn, arrogant, self-righteous, smug ...call it what you will. It ain't good. It's cost us games...and I'd guess probably a few recruits too. Having Barta's lips planted firmly on his azz has probably added to it.

I sincerely don't know why people think KF is such a classy guy. I find him to actually be a d***. Never met him and could care less too. To me he comes across as very passive-aggressive and petulant. And yes he likes to take little and sometimes bigger jabs at his critics. Everyone remember presenting Chris Doyle with an award a few months after the rhabdo incident?

Such a snarky comment to what was a golden opportunity to praise the kid who saved his ***. He doesnt see it that way of course.

I heard the comment live and Eddie's response. Eddie is clearly in CJ's corner. Eddie's too classy to respond any other way than he did but I might have called him a little b****.

I agree 100 percent. Eddy P is a true Hawkeye. You'll hear him say things and call Ferentz out on things that a normal broadcaster wouldn't ever say.

CJ pulled Ferentz's ball out of the fire and he makes that comment? There was nothing classy about that.

I think KF has a weird sense of humor and this quote was half snarky as in "gee it surprised me cuz I dont see him practice very well" but also trying to make an off hand joke.

I just dont think he gives out praise very well.

I'm not sure what specific post you're responding to, unless you're talking about Ferentz saying that CJ sucks in practice...if that's the case I agree with the other poster. Ferentz shouldn't have said that. It made me think that I was dead wrong the last decade + that I thought he was a great guy. But that's irrelevant to this. You certainly don't have to meet a public figure to know that their actions or words are not what you desire them to be. Why would you possibly think that nobody can have an opinion about somebody's actions without meeting them?

For instance, I've never met Hitler, but in my opinion he was jerk. If that's "Petulant and Stupid" to you. Too bad.

It really is amazing. In years that Iowa is rolling (2002-2004 and the end of 2008- the middle of 2010) KF's responses like this are treated as witty and clever by the Iowa fan base. When things are not going as well, he is a dick or throwing guys under the bus.

KF's demeanor at pressers hasn't changed the last 16 years.

I'm not following you here. Everyone is upset with his comments after things went well. We just had a great second half comeback and looked way better than we have all season.

My point being maybe I am missing something because a lot of people think he is a great guy. Maybe all these people have met him and speak from ecperience.

My only contact with him is what I see on TV or hear on the radio. Based on what I see and hear a good deal of the time is someone I really don't care for.

But yes I should refrain from personal attacks and stick to my frustrations with his coaching style.

Just curious though. Do you think he owes CJB an apology for his comments?

Those rhabdo affected players for telling them to stay off social media before inquiring about their health?

I agree with this post.... Hitler was a jerk.

Kirk should be allot nicer to Beathard. He just might be the reason for another huge contract extension

A lot of people are "great guys" when they're getting their butts kissed. A man's true character shows through when he's challenged a bit and god forbid...has to swallow his pride and admit he may have been wrong.

I said what I said refering to posters making personal attacks on KF while at the same time saying, "I've never met the guy" but I know he's a dick and an *** hole while hiding behind phony names is being what they claim they know KF to be.

I've criticized his words. I've criticized his actions. His good-will account with me is empty. There are more and more people that are in that camp. But if you're one of them calling KF a dick and an *** hole without knowing him personally (especially because there are dozens and scores of people that say otherwise) then there's the ol' Norwegian proverb about throwing a stone into the sled-dog team and one of them yelps; that's the one you meant to hit.

Ferentz realizes that they don't keep score in practice, right?

If you have ever coached, you know exactly how wrong that statement is. I used to coach HS basketball and you "keep score" at every practice. You play the best players based on their practice performance. OK, so someone comes in and does completely opposite of their practice performance and blows the socks off the opponent. It still doesn't change their past practice performances. And since we don't see the practices, who are we to question what goes on there?

So it's safe to assume you would have benched Allen Iverson. Sound advice.

Classy? Maybe now, but not always (or did some forget this because he fits the narrrative now?): http://www.blackheartgoldpants.com/2009/1/14/720443/ed-podolak-retires-after-t

I've met him once and had a little casual conversation with him at Big Ten media days a couple years ago. He seems like a nice enough guy; he just gets a little defensive at times when he feels like he/his decisions are being attacked, whether by fans or the media. I doubt many of us would be much different if we were in that position (hell, it only takes a quick skimming of these boards to see how we handle disagreements when it comes to Hawkeye sports).

You only see him or hear from him for about 5 hours a week, for 4 months of the year. Making wholesale judgements on his overall character, based on the kinds of remarks we occasionally hear from him in that very limited exposure, isn't fair to him.

The point is that some guys are simply better in the games than they are in practice. I can't remember which former QB people say was a bad practice QB. I want to say it was Hartlieb.

Last year, Beathard simply wasn't ready. This year, we've seen him come in and perform VERY well from the word go in both games he's seen action in. He may simply not be a great practice player, but that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't the better player.

We did have a great comeback but the sentiment by the vocal minority right now is still "KF sucks and everything he says/does is wrong."

If we were sitting here and it was 09/20/2010 there wouldn't be one negative word said about KF's comments right now.

I doubt Beathard is a bad practice player at all, it's just that Rudock is better. Of course he's better in practice though, his game is perfect for picking apart our D.
