Ferentz berating Herman

So Kirk yells at a kid while we are leading by 2 TDs. We end up losing the game.

I'm not sure here but wouldn't you draw the conclusion that the speech maybe took the sails out of the kid?

So now it's wrong to yell at a player? There's another thread going on about lacking: passion/motivation/will to win. If getting berated took his sails out, his sails need folded and stored below deck....

He has a lot of Belichek in him for better or for worse. Mentoring will do that to you.

What parts do you think? Mainly I just see similarities in personality, or lack thereof in public. I could care less about that if KF, like BB, actually fields teams that don't consistently underperform and/or quit (i.e.--Minny last year). BB has also shown that he understands offenses have evolved a bit and there is no reason to pretend it is the 1950s when you have excellent receivers and a fairly accurate QB.

I could go on and on, but there is not much point. Clearly, I am a frustrated fan, angry that a school I have supported on numerous levels for years has a coaching staff comitting grand larceny before our very eyes.

Oops, missed this one... sorry.

I see a lot of Belichek in Ferentz in regards to demeanor and how he runs the program - more of a state-head and delegator.

Did I accidentally stumble into Idiots on Parade or Old Ladies Cagematch III?

This isn't complicated. KF obviously had confidence in Herman, as most of us did going into the year. Obviously, he yelled at him to motivate him (if he intended to pull him, he wouldn't have bothered). Obviously, it didn't work out; Herman responded poorly.

I suspect you'll see very little of Herman next week. It isn't Kirk's style to give up on a kid, but this performance was ludicrous. Whatever CJ may still lack in blocking skills, he's pretty clearly the less-bad option now.

(p.s. to aeischeid: exactly right)

I don't really have a problem with him yelling at him. I just get annoyed with the hypocrisy of how many fans react to opposing coaches versus our coach.

You honestly see no difference between KF's style and that of Brian Kelly, Bo Pelini, and Paul Rhoads??

In general, yes, there are obviously great differences. But I don't think berating a player on the bench is significantly better than berating him on the sideline. At least not significant enough to call one "good" if you've already judged the other as being "bad".

In one instance you're embarrassing a kid on national television. In the other, only people at the game who who happened to be looking at the bench would have even known the coach said anything.

I'd say that's pretty ******* significant.

Im all about class but some guys need to get "embarassed" by a coach to get their head right. These are college men and are getting their college paid for. If they cant remember the snap count on multiple occasions i would hope the coach would be in his ear.

Except if the camaras are on him, which isn't really in his control. Then the difference is that one guy has a Tiger Hawk on his fleece and the other doesn't.

Ferentz has a good reputation, and as far as I can tell it's well deserved. But to praise him for berating a player the "right way" in this instance, is just stupid. But maybe I'm wrong since Herman played like gangbusters from then on out.

You think coaches don't have a pretty good grasp on when the cameras are on them? You run five yards on to the field and get in a players face and you think the coach didn't think the camera would be on him?

Every coach gets on players, whether it's in practice or in games. The least they could do is make it so they're not embarassing the player while they're doing it.
