Ferentz berating Herman

Well, sorry, that makes no sense. If you think a coach berating a player in front of his teammates and 70,000 fans with the camaras on him is bad, you should also be upset about him berating a player in front of his teammates and 70,000 fans with the camaras off.

What, no. Kelly doing it on national TV is one thing, but for KF to do it in private (more private) is fine. You have to let players know when they screw up and hopefully motivate them to get it right. But doing it in front of the whole nation is not good publicity.

I'm confused on the question.

It was good because he was able to get his point across to his players and not have to worry about the stupid recourse of some people if they had seen it on TV. He knows how to act on the sidelines, until a lot of HC out there.

So I must have missed Herman's improved play the rest of the game. Pretty sure Ferentz's speech didn't do anything to get Herman to play better and yet he was still in the game at the end.

Herman shouldn't see the field the rest of the year. Our TE's have been disappointing all year, actually Ray Hamilton might be the best tight end we have right now, no reason to burn a red-shirt at this point.

he'salready played. I don't know why he's not in there. Also, I think CJF still has the potential, just needs more reps.

The camaras can get anything that happens anywhere on the sideline. It wasn't "knowing what he's doing", it was luck that it wasn't caught.

Also, maybe we have a different conception of "berating" someone. I personally can't see instruction or motivation coming from berating someone. I'm fine with letting someone know you're ******. But I think of berating someone as going off the handle and at that point probably not much is getting through.

He probably wasn't berating as much as chewing out instructively. I have no idea, but I can't imagine it was the same as Kelly's. Maybe it was. I really didn't have a problem with Kelly yelling at his player, just thought it made him look like a dick.

Anyways, I guess I see this as a thread with Black and Gold blinders on. If it were a different team, some of the people that are okay with this would be going off on the coach.

As far as KF, he's displayed high character in the past, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Look who started the thread, the man doesn't take his black and gold glasses off.

I agree about the blinders. But I'm saying that I think Kelly looked like an idiot, but don't think he's wrong for getting on a player. I just think it is smarter to wait til the player heads to bench away from the focus. Also, it was a much smaller mistake as the ND one cost them highly, bu this was on a TD apparently, so that's a big difference as to what is caught on camera.

If they were so mad at Herman, can anyone tell me why he has 2 passes thrown to him with the game on the line when he has been nothing but awful the whole season? Why in the world is CJ F not in the game to run routes? If he isn't playing because he can't block fine, but when you need 50 yards and are split out wide, that shouldnt matter.

Amen, this, ostrich, walrus etc.

Well, you're consistent so that makes sense. What I don't get is the Kelly's a dick but Ferentz is awesome crowd.

I guess it's better if it's on the bench, but only by a small increment. Keep in mind this was BTN crew, so even if it would have happend on the 50 yard line there's a good chance they would have come back from their Hass Avocado commercial too late and would have missed it anyway.

If he wanted to berate someone so everyone could see, he would have.

Instead he waited for Herman to get to the bench, and the came over and purposely came down to give him hell.

He knows what he was doing (in regards to getting in a player's face), that's all I am saying.

Partly, it would depend on what Herman was getting reamed for. Pelini ripping into Martinez over an interception isn't the same as ripping into a player for a lack of effort, boneheaded penalty, etc.

It's because of how they handle themselves on the sidelines, during pressers, etc... Kelly might not be a jerk and Ferentz might not be that awesome, but to the general public, they will get label on how they present themselves. That's all I am saying in this thread. Kirk did it the right way.

I don't know, because I'm not sure why Ferentz was so hot at Herman.

I was more concerned with White in the game instead of Coker during the last series.

Obviously they had no intent on running the football on the last series(which is absolutely f'n incredible in itself), but if you decide you are gonna wing it downfield, why in the hell is Jason White one of the guys spread out?? and Brad Herman, who hasnt done **** all year, also on the field??

Absolutely, that's an important difference. But this thread didn't seem to be about the rationale behind berating the player. It seems to be making the case that:

Ripping someone on the sidelines = bad
Ripping someone on bench 10 yards over = good

That doesn't make any sense.

It truly is mind-boggling.

Guy runs for over 250 yards and he isn't even on the field with OVER 2:30 to go in the game. You have plenty of time to run a couple run plays or draws.

I still don't get that.
