ESPN: Woodbury to crack Top 50, possibly Top 25

From what I remember reading, McCabe also held out committing to Iowa because he wanted to see how many offers and how high a profile he could garner before committing.

From a recruiting standpoint these guys are on completely different levels

I am not trying to say whether he will or won't. My head and my fandomship are at odds about it. Why does the level of athlete matter? Can players at different levels not take part in the same practices?

I do a lot of things just to pad my resume. I am betting CEOs do too.

If you read further down in the article under the heading "The chase for bigs," it states that Royboy and Self are pursuing another highly regarded big, power forward Brandon Ashley, out of Oakland. They are also both after true center, Kaleb Taczewski. This doesn't necessarily mean they don't think they can sign Adam, but I am taking it as a good sign. Obviously they would probably take both, but I am hoping that Adam will break the trend and be that one top recruit that is willing to sign on and be the recruit that decides he wants to turn the Hawkeyes into a winner rather than just be another cog in the machine of these top ranked programs.

Highly unlikely Ashley leaves the west, Kansas has an abysmal relationship with Ashley's AAU team and Arizona or Oregon are thought to be the front runners. I think Kaleb Tarczewinski is a more likely prospect for the tarheels.

Somethings up in Lawerence, Self hasn't been been recruiting as well lately.

My point was McCabe didnt have offers rolling in from the top programs in the country. Woodbury waiting to weigh offers is not comparable to McCabe waiting to weight offers because the level of offers they each have is not even close to the same

McCabe had offers from Iowa, Butler and UNI. Him waiting out the process wasnt perceived as a big deal because he was a 2 star recruit. Woodbury waiting with Coach K and Roy possibly calling poses a slightly larger threat to Iowa landing him as a recruit

In reference to my post above, don't take this to mean I think its more likely AW goes to one of those schools. He has done such a good job keeping his cards hidden, I have no idea. I am praying he does decide on Iowa though, especially after his good showing against some of the best bigs in the country and that I have seen in a few years. ( these guys are not only big, they are ATHLETIC and can shoot)

Mccabe ended up with some really nice offers before committing. UVA, minnesota, utah, asu, etc...

Notre Dame also started recruiting McCabe. I don't believe they ever offered but as he continued to hold out on his commitment to Iowa, he started getting more of what he wanted, even though he was going to go to Iowa regardless. I don't blame Woodbury, these kids know what happens when they commit early on. The recruiting services forget about you. Like he has said many times, he enjoys the process. In the end, no matter who offers, Adam is going to be a Hawk.

In the Chuck Long interview that was posted recently, Chuck said that of all his memories from playing in college and the NFL, being part of turning the Iowa football program around was one of his favorites. Adam has the chance to do that for the Hawkeye basketball program, too. To me, that would be a heck of a lot more fun than going to play someplace and simply keeping the status quo.

Who's to say that he's actually looking to weigh those options? If I were a top recruit that Iowa was after, I'd either be the guy that did the Matt Gatens thing and commit early, or I'd hold out for offers from UNC/Kansas/Duke/etc. (just so I could say those schools wanted me), and then commit to the Hawks anyway. That could EASILY be what Woodbury is doing. I don't know if it is or isn't, but it's well within reason to believe that's the case.

I agree.. unless you are top 5, if you commit early (especially to a non powerhouse) the services move on and I personally hate this. Its like some warped hype chess game by the recruiting services. They should be rated on talent/progression alone.

An example is Grant Jerrett 2012 PF out of California. Started out in the top 20 - 5 star, was said to be the best PF in the west and has not missed a beat, none of his competitors have out progressed him. Heck, he even grew a few inches. Latest Rivals 150 dropped him to 37 overall - 4 star I think, his crime? Committed to Arizona early.

While I get the hype about ratings and the entertainment value they provide... I think people put way too much value in a system that does nothing but provides a talking point for fans. As a matter of fact, short of the few marquee schools, the class ratings are more of a detriment than a help for 90% of the schools... you see it discussed all the time, "We got to get _____________ (fill in the blank) because it'll increase our ratings for such and such player or critical to the success of the program!" Unfortunately, way too many players base a big part of their decision on the ratings and not what the school can provide them beyond the court/field. I believe that's partly why we see so many transfers these days...

Once a player decides where he wants to go, he needs to commit and put the process to rest... it costs the schools way too much money to keep catering to a recruit that isn't going anywhere. And if the recruit is not committing because he wants to retain his rating value, it's a big waste of money and time for something that doesn't add value. The coaches know who the best players are... they don't need the ratings system.

Adam is working hard on the court, and he deserves the consideration of weighing all his options, taking some visits, and then making a decision in the fall, when most players commit. I think he will do all the above and then choose to become a Hawkeye,as Fran can show him his vision of a rising program close to home. Coming from a Hawkeye family,it is not like Barnes, who was an ISU family, with no loyalty to Iowa at all. Paige decided before Fran had a real chance of showing his mettle.
Fran will nab Adam,Gesell,Jok and Agau, and Iowa will be off and flying.

hope you're right dude. i've heard good things here in sioux city, but nothing concrete. and this is a big rumor city, so he's playing it quiet, that's for sure. i think all bets are off though if duke and UNC come calling, otherwise i like our chances.

A lot of conjecture here as is normal for most forums. I find it interesting that a young man like Adam has been able to keep his feelings under raps about whether or not he is leaning towards Iowa at this time. You would think that a close friend to Adam would have let some thing leak out by now. Not to be a pessimist but that is a bit concerning. It also would be quite normal for a young man to to be surfing the forums. How does the guy keep quiet about all this as he has to be reading about himself? Surely his parents must have some idea also. One statement that I thought that did bold well for Iowa's chances is the fact that Adam had said that he family will play an important part in his decsion. I seem to remember having read that they both are Iowa grads.......certainly that can't hurt now can it? The silence is deafening though. Since he grew up a Hawkeye fan and his parents are grads it wouldn't make sense for him to drag it out for this long and waste the Iowa staff's time thus hurt or damage Iowa by making them waste their time. So I am going to go out on a limb and say he is going to be Iowa's first major recruit based solely upon that logic.

I know his parents are Hawk Fans but I don't beleive their Iowa Alums.
So says CBS:

IMO if he is waiting this will do great things for the program if he committs. I agree that if you committ early then you lose the attention of the rating companies and if you committ to Iowa it seems to be worse. If he does jump into the top 25 then his committment would be a huge news story gaining attention from many media sources and other recruits. Local kid chooses hometown team even though he had opportunites (insert place)... This is the type of story media outlets love, great PR and free. He does have a 3.8 after all so I hope this is his master plan.

My thoughts exactly Babcock. As Adam continues his rise and when he commits to Iowa, it will help in the way of other top recruits taking a harder look at Iowa knowing a top rated kid just committed. Fran has this program on the rise and judging by his comments Adam see's this as well. Other recruits will follow.

So if this theory is correct, the ESPN article said if he continues to perform well through July they would reevaluate his ranking. If he does well, then he would committ soon after the new rankings are released, August. Get it done right before his senior season starts and he doesn't need to worry about while he is focusing on school and his senior season. That means another month of discussing him at least on the message boards.

I am confused by the logic of this. You say he is holding out because he likes the attention from the recruiting services, but you are certain he will go to Iowa. So he loves the attention of Rivals, but is willing to spurn UNC and Kansas and having 80% of his games on ESPN, to go to Iowa where he will have the undivided attention of The Quad City Times and Big 10 Network's overflow channels.
