Early look at next years football schedule..............

6-6 is all I would feel comfortable with right now

I agree Jon but I think we surprise next year. Probably lose a couple we shouldn't as we have that history but I think I beat a couple teams that are top 20.

New Years day bowl will feel a whole lot better than this year.

Iowa vs NI Win
Iowa vs MS Win
Iowa vs ISU win
Iowa vs WM Win
Iowa vs Min win
Iowa vs MSU loss
Iowa vs OSU Loss
Iowa vs NW win
Iowa vs W win
Iowa vs P w
Iowa vs M loss
Iowa vs NB Loss
* lower case; close win or close loss
Iowa has almost all their defense returning. Iowa's experianced running backs will be behind a stellar O'line that should have multiple 300#s. The weakness (as we all know) is at WR, and QB. The starting QB is going to be a rookie and will get better as the year goes on. Iowa State is losing a lot of their talent and will have to do some rebuilding. Iowa should be 4-0 going opening B1G play at Minnesota. NI, Missouri and WM are all in Kinnick: Advantage Iowa. Iowa could end up between 5-7 or 9-3 (losing to OSU, NB and probaly W or MSU)

Iowa has, at best, serviceable WR's. One DE position that has zero returning depth. Half of the defensive backfield to replace.

A line coming off multiple injuries, a QB without any meaningful snaps. A thin RB corp with a system that breaks RBs and a schedule that misses the worst teams in the conference.

What they have returning is a battering ram RB that has no ability to avoid contact. DT's that got physically overwhelmed most of the last season (think King and Kroul in 2006) One DE that plays like a poor man's Bryan Mattison, without an Iwebema on the other side. Three LB's that are not stout enough to shed blocks behind a DL not stout enough to take up blockers.

Basically, Iowa has to hope that players emerge who were not in the past season's two-deeps to be successful.

Whether that be Beathard, Jaleel, Faith, or some frosh or JUCO's. going into the next season banking on having the most returning starters is not a recipe for success.

I feel sad that you don't realize the obvious of how bad a coach ferentz is.

I wouldn't say he is bad, as much as outdated, stubborn, and unable or unwilling to adapt.
He was successful when 3yds and a cloud of dust was in vogue. Most successful programs have evolved. We evolved to 3yd outs and a cloud of pathetic.
SIAP.

I have Iowa being very competitive in every game outside of OSU and Nebby,if we get decent QB play...a big if,I know, but it has happened before with guys like Drew Tate in 2004(we did not know how he would play at all) and Chandler in 2003,or even Banks in 2002.

Iowa should be better at almost every other position, and contrary to what some folks think...our opponents do lose players every year.

Maybe it is still too close to last season, but I have a hard time seeing past 4 wins. Would be overjoyed with 6 and a minor bowl.

A couple of teams playing Monday night would disagree.

My concern is not so much with the system as with his reluctance to hit the JUCO system when it is clear he has personnel problems.

Also, wasting scholarships on guys that require way too much development to expect that the will ever contribute is a bad idea. Keep the schollies and hit the JC and transfer trail hard.

3 yds and a cloud of dust went out with Chuck Long, Mark Herman, Dave Wilson, Jack Trudeau, Jim Everette, Tom Brady, Brad Banks, Mark Vlasic....

Its posts like this one that cause meltdowns on the football board when the team finishes below .500.

While I am not ready to pick w's and l's, I do think we will do better than most think.
For all the people who think we are going to be that bad, may I suggest you donate your tickets and whatever you were going to spend on tailgating and bowl trips. Maybe you should donate it to HN, that way you can claim you paid for the right to be a whinny *****.

If mouth breather one melts down because meathead two predicts Iowa to go 17-0 and they finish 2 and eleventy then meathead a is the cause of the meltdown not mouthbreather 2's post.

Bad coaches don't win multiple B10 titles and BCS bowl games at Iowa. End ******* discussion.

I'll say this again as I realize it takes many times for ferentz apologists to read/hear this before it sinks in.

ferentz has not changed since he came to Iowa. The reason that he had success is because of what he did well - hire good recruiters on his staff. They now have been gone for a while and you see the real ferentz exposed.

History proves that if his teams don't have very good talent, he is not successful. Since he hasn't had good recruiters on his staff for a while now, you see ferentz for what he truly is.

Hope that helps, but you are so far gone as a ferentz apologist that there may not be hope for you at this point. But I do wish you well.

Seriously, what is your username on Hawkeye Insider? They coined the "Ferentz apologist" line years ago.

So?

FreedComanche

It's old, tired and over played, like a Taylor Swift song on the radio.

I agree with a lot of what you say about Ferentz, I really do. But when you feel the need to reach into list of your arguments and feel you need to use the "ferentz apologist" label, please don't.

Just think about that car commercial that the car blows the horn when you go too far, relate that to this.

"Ferentz apologist" is too far, you are too smart of a guy to use that cheap line.

Ok, what should I say in place of that term?
