Does this season mean anything to you anymore?

After last weeks loss at NW I was very upset and didn't have anything to do with anyone. After having that loss I said to myself I wouldn't let the Hawks ruin my weekends anymore. We'll after last night's loss to be completely honest it really didn't have an impact on me positive or negative. I would think by the way we lost (blowing a 4th&10 attempt to OSU and allowing a TD with 1:45 left) I would have been an emotional wreck. Instead I sat there for around a min after McNutt caught the pass but came up short (not to mention ABC went out after we turned the ball over) I got a little upset but remembered what I said about not letting the Hawks ruin my weekend so I decided to play some Call of Duty Back Ops and had a pretty fun Saturday. Its too bad that our Seniors didn't get a W in their last game in Kinnick and thats kind of upsetting knowing Rick,Reisner,DJK,Clayborn and all our other Seniors couldn't go out with a bang. I wish all our seniors luck and hopefully we can get at it next week against the Gophers. My question to you is how upset about the loss are you? Are you taking it like me and thinking its not the end of the world, even if we had all these expectations or are you furious and wanting to bring back firekok.com again?

I'm not upset over this loss because after last weeks loss it pretty much took everything off of the table. Going into the OSU game every win from then on was going to be gravy. Looks like my mashed potatoes will be dry this week though.

upset, but it didn't linger. i think i still have residual frustration from the nw loss, as it made this game less significant. the season as a whole has been disappointing, but i'm a slow learner, so next year my expectations will still start high and the cycle will start all over. one of these years they'll get it right and it will justify all of my emotional investment.

Floyd of Rosedale this week and a bowl win in January... um, yes- this season still means something to me. We haven't shown much ability to finish anything yet when it counts in a game- maybe we can at least close out the last two games of the season properly.

Sure the losses sting, and there's plenty to question or debate- but to me there's plenty left.

I may not even watch the game next week. There's really nothing left to play for. If they blow Minnesota out, which it seems they should, woop-de-doo. If they get beat, I will become severely depressed.

Next week's game matters to me a lot. I'm going & live in Minnesota. Don't want to deal with a loss for a year.

I'm not too upset now. Didn't expect a win yesterday.

My disappointment was so great after the Wisconsin game that it actually wore me out a lot. I don't think I've recovered. MSU win didn't fire me up even. That loss just wrecked me as a fan. I still watch and root for Iowa but I actively make an effort to not get upset. (I've tried laughing instead of yelling)

I'm not a fan of the bowl system so I really don't care who or when they play. I'll watch. To me its just another game against a non-conference team. The only difference being that it is the season finale and leaves a lasting taste.

So in short, yes the next two games still matter me, but like you said, I'm not going to let it ruin any more weekends. Wisconsin was my last.

As a fan of Iowa yes. But, this season is a lost cause. Only pride is left to play for. It is hard to get excited for a team that blows it in the end.

Even though it's a disappointment of a season, we could still end up in the Outback Bowl, which for me (a Tampa resident) that gives me a golden opportunity to go and see the Hawks play. The bowl game experience is always a blast. I'll be tuned in to watch us against Minnesota, so yes, the season still means something to me.

I was really PO'ed right after the game last night, and in the old days I used to let that linger longer than I should have, but I've learned to force myself to move on and realize that there is more to life than the outcome of a football game. Yeah, the loss from yesterday still bugs me, but I'm not letting it ruin what's left of my weekend.

The season is a lost cause, got other better things to do then worry about it. I have come to expect us to blow the game late this season so was prepared which is sad

I'm still ****** about the Wisconsin game (fake punt).

The Indiana & NW games were interesting, we should have pounded them into submission by the 4th quarter, unfortunately the reverse happened.

Please play to your strengths coaches.

This WAS a BCS team THIS YEAR; I have no doubt about that.

There is absolutley no excuse for the end of this season, that is why so many of us are disapointed.

For a while.

I'd rather watch an underdog overachieve than a solid team with senior leadership and suspect coaching underachieve.

This team is not the underdog.

I lost a person I cared about last night in a one-car accident. He was 47 years old, with two beautiful daughters and a wonderful son.

It was an unbelievable tragedy.

Iowa football is a hobby. It is a game. It is a diversion. It is not life and death. People on this board take it WAY too seriously.

No Iowa team has ever won 3 bowl games in a row. It has never happened. That is something to play for.

Although sad news... very nice post ChosenChildren. Reality can sometimes be a SOB. It is what it is. I love the Hawkeyes... I feel really bad for the Seniors who deserved much better... but a win against Minnesota will most likely put them in the Outback Bowl against an SEC team going for a third bowl game in a row.

This is a team which hasn't lost by more than a TD since they were freshmen. The 7-4 record is not indicative of how great they are. They could have imploded like most teams would. Sometimes we forget that we are fans... we have the easiest part. We can choose to go hunting instead... we can choose not to go to the game... we can sit here and gripe about things or we can realize it is only our hobby.

Of course this season means something to me... every season does. Just because this season didn't turn out as good as expected. Would it matter if we weren't supposed to do well and were staring at an Outback Bowl bid with a win over Minnesota? Many seasons we would have been downright giddy about that. Do you think Texas fans don't care anymore? Do you think Penn State fans don't care anymore? Yes this season sucked... it was painful... but it should be. When you are upset that your team could finish 8-4 and going to the Outback Bowl it is because your favorite team is damn good and you should be proud of that.
It is when it stops hurting to lose that truly sucks. IE Cubs, Iowa Basketball the last few years, Vikings, etc. I love to be a fan of a team that hurts to lose. Iowa Football is still a team that provides that.

Excellent post sir. Couldn't agree more.

As long as I believe we 'can' win(not 'will' or 'should' win) I will continue to get engaged in the game, feel the exhileration of a win or disappointment of a loss(being grateful I can 'feel' anything) and then move on. As bad as I felt after the loss I am 100% certain every player and coach felt worse than I did. We have a lot of great coaches and players and I am proud to be a Hawkeye fan. These guys give it everything they have and have generally done very well. Could it be better? Of course, but also could be worse. We are going to play on Jan 1 against a ranked team from America's premier FB conference and maybe on that day this team will find the success that they deserve?? Win or lose, I will be entertained and proud.
