Any "fan" that says they aren't going to watch an Iowa game just because we are out of the title race....isn't a very big fan.
I figured the basketball program would need to improve tremendously to look forward to its start and the end of the football season. I'm now more interested in what Fran and his young squad can accomplish than what happens at Minny or, apparently, Tampa.
I'm embarrassed by how delusional many of us were heading into this season:
- Clear-cut favorite to contend for the Big 10 title.
- Strong contender for the NC game.
- Best defense in the country.
- Top defensive lineman in the country.
- Ricky Stanzi, Heisman candidate.
- How to find enough playing time for stable of three-plus young, talented running backs.
- One of the best coaching staffs in the country.
- "We are who we are, now come and get us" was good enough to win virtually every game.
Ouch.
I may not even watch the game next week. There's really nothing left to play for. If they blow Minnesota out, which it seems they should, woop-de-doo. If they get beat, I will become severely depressed.
You bet it still means something to me. Life is too short and uncertain not to enjoy EVERY season, every game.I lost a person I cared about last night in a one-car accident. He was 47 years old, with two beautiful daughters and a wonderful son.
It was an unbelievable tragedy.
Iowa football is a hobby. It is a game. It is a diversion. It is not life and death. People on this board take it WAY too seriously.
No Iowa team has ever won 3 bowl games in a row. It has never happened. That is something to play for.
