Kurt is a lying SOB. He deserves this.
welcome to the Kirkliter era.

Not Me! If I had my choice who would be here next year between Ferentz and CJ..it's CJ hands down. Iowa Football is DEAD..the coach is an extremely expensive lame duck.Agreed
If you lost employees as talented as CJ and Willies in the same month, not to mention the many others over the years, I would fire you. This doesn't happen to hungry coaches who want to win, not this often. When we lost Coker, for example, it was the equivalent of Nebraska losing Abdullah or Wiscy losing Melvin Gordon in terms of importance. You almost never hear of other programs losing their feature players, at least not as often as we do.
Once again, this probably will not end well for the Iowa fans...I don't see KF caving to outside pressure by CJs family, especially in the light of going public now. He will more than likely now not play CJ at all to highlight his stance ...even at the peril of losing the game.
Yeah... a long tenured coach with numbers comparable to many HOF coaches should probably just let the players families dictate things in the media.
At this point if playing CJ guaranteed a win I'd let him sit.
You don't get to poke the coach in the eye indirectly and get your way... there is precisely ZERO upside to the coach for caving to outside pressure from Nashville songwriters. If you have something to say have the balls to request a meeting with your coach face to face and make your case. Better yet... make your case every day in practice and execute flawlessly when you get your chances on the field.
It's a classless move by CJ and his Dad. If you don't like the shot you are getting then transfer. But don't give a F'ing ultimatum to your son's coach via your hometown paper. That is something you just don't do.
It's like a helicopter dad of a 10 year old that thinks his 10U coach isn't playing his son enough at shortstop.
I think you and hwk are right. It's not intended to be an ultimatum. But that's the way it has come across to some.
KF says he evaluates his players/staff after the season (and some players don't come back after that evaluation and once-in-a-great-while even a coach); CJB says he'll evaluate his position after the season.
Why is it when KF says it he's a good manager and if CJB says exactly what KF says he's a bad team member?
Great point IMO! Has anyone seen a QB actually get better under Ferentz? I truly think he does more harm than good over the course of his tenure at Iowa. That has been the one thing he has never done an adequate job at. I've seen QB's that had plenty of talent come into the program only to decline and lose their edge under Ferentz. Sad..... just so sad!
Regardless of what KF may have said or promised, the issue for me is whether any QB can develop under KF's guidance.
The issue isn't how talented the quarterback is. Iowa will recruit pretty talented quarterbacks, but the main issue is which quarterback will give what Ferentz is looking for. When Ferentz first started at Iowa he promised the Iowa offensive attack would be wide open. That isn't what Ferentz is looking for. Cody Sokol just lead Virginia tech past Illinois in a bowl game. He is a pretty talented player, but he wasn't what Ferentz was looking for. Its hard to have a guy by the balls if he is worth fifty million dollars. If I was the backup quarterback I wouldn't hold much stock in whatever Ferentz says even if he was to start the bowl game. Ferentz has a history of saying one thing and doing another.

Apparently Kirk recruits players he isn't looking for. The guy's a genius I tellz ya.
Boy, say what you will, but this chess(t) match is kind of fun to watch. Say it aint so, is this really happening, 12 games into the season and there is still an apparent QB competition? What coaching staff still has an open competition 12 games into the season. Shouldn't you know who you are at this point in the season?
Now comes the Beathard camp making chess moves to a coach that historically keeps a tight ship and you do things on Iowa's terms. I don't know how it's going to work out in the end, but this is rather entertaining to say the least.
Agreed

I'm glad you were able to twist what I was saying around. Ferentz was going to play the quarterback that is most likely to follow his conservative style no matter how talented the other guy is. I'm sure both guys are talented. If both quarterbacks play in the bowl game and they both come back next year, I wonder who do you think will be the starter next year? I'm not saying one quarterback is better than the other, but its a matter of what the coaches want. I'm sure they will tell the players whatever suits there (the coaches) purposes.
