Does Beathard Have Ferentz By The ----s?

It's a classless move by CJ and his Dad. If you don't like the shot you are getting then transfer. But don't give a F'ing ultimatum to your son's coach via your hometown paper. That is something you just don't do.

It's like a helicopter dad of a 10 year old that thinks his 10U coach isn't playing his son enough at shortstop.

You know what else you shouldn't do? You shouldn't string a kid along through the media by saying he's going to get playing time, that the job is wide open, and then not play him. Beathard's got every right to be fed up at this point, and the whole "could" start the bowl game manure seems like it was the final straw. This isn't some benchwarmer who nobody gave two ***** about demanding playing time. This is a player who's been repeatedly teased with the carrot of playing time at the end of a stick making it clear that it's time for Ferentz to put up or shut up.

folx, just take the emotion out of it. CJB doing what he thinks is in his best interests. KF doing what he thinks is best. We'll see if they over lap.

Good lord, this is what the Iowa football program has come down to....a silly little game of gamesmanship.

He obviously does not know Capt well. You have to use reverse psychology on the Capt. Once you try to force his hand, he does the complete opposite of what you want him to do. In this case, Beathard will never see another Hawkeye snap.

I think he came to that conclusion a long time ago. This is just an opportunity for him to leave no doubt in the public's eye that he got screwed.

Why not just transfer now? This just creates more drama. Guess CJ and his dad wanted to bring this to light, before packing their bags. Get a few things out in the open (first time it's been an open competition, etc)

I am curious as to how many others leave?

I think that's basically what this amounts to, and I don't really have a problem with it at this point. I'm sure they know Ferentz well enough by now that they know this isn't likely to end with CJ as the starter.

Boy, say what you will, but this chess(t) match is kind of fun to watch. Say it aint so, is this really happening, 12 games into the season and there is still an apparent QB competition? What coaching staff still has an open competition 12 games into the season. Shouldn't you know who you are at this point in the season?

Now comes the Beathard camp making chess moves to a coach that historically keeps a tight ship and you do things on Iowa's terms. I don't know how it's going to work out in the end, but this is rather entertaining to say the least. ;)

No I don't think Beathard or anyone else for that matter has Ferentz by the nuts, well except for Mary maybe.

Yeah, guess I answered it for myself after talking/writing it out. I have no problem with it either. I am truly baffled by KF's actions towards CJ over the past two seasons. The calling out CJ after the game, the lack of praise, or slight praise but deflect it to Jake.

I wish CJ the best. I think he's got talent, and with the right coaching, could be something special. I don't know if he'd ever realize it if he stays at Iowa. There are schematic problems bigger than any one player. Even with NFL talent on both sides of the ball we lose 2-4 games a year.

Whenever the parents start giving interviews/quotes that's what your going to get... There are no more biased of an opinion then that of the parents of players. We just don't know what all has been said behind the scenes.. To me I think he's gone... Between CJ talking candidly about Willies and now this there's no way he's on the right side of Ferentzs dog house. I think the only reason he's not already gone from the coaches angle is because they need him. They are redshirting Weigers and they sure as heck don't want to pull it now. JR is a twisted knee or ankle away from us being down to 1 qb really. The coaches know that so to me with Willies not coming back and the Beathards doing interviews outside of fort Kinnicks wishes I think this will be his last dance and I doubt he plays....

If you want to surprise me have CJ be named the starter and have him stay and he be #1 going into spring... However I just think the dominos have already started falling and it's too late.

I agree. He knows Ferentz well enough and has stayed within the confines of Fort Ferentz up until this point. The fact that he did an interview & said the things he said outside of Fort Ferentz is telling. Most likely, they all realize he's probably leaving an KF probably asked that he play the rest of the season out prior to announcing anything official yet. I think he knows he'll prob end up leaving but prob didn't say it officially out of respect for KF and Iowa or was asked not to. To me, hearing "I will evaluate it after the Gator Bowl" = I will officially announce I am leaving after the Gator Bowl.

We'll pretty much know after the 1st quarter which way this thing will go.

Yep, could limit who will take him when he transfers.

Noone puts Baby in a corner.

I believe CJB is a much better qb with a much higher ceiling. I'm irritated with Ferentz for not giving him the #1 job. But this was classless by CJ and his Dad. Making your coach look bad publicly is not the way to go. Noone would have blamed him for transferring after the bowl game but to force KF's hand like this is just a bad way to handle it all around.

If CJ leaves, he will land on his feet. The Beathard family has a few football connections. I am sure they don't give a rip what KF thinks

Regardless of what KF may have said or promised, the issue for me is whether any QB can develop under KF's guidance. If I was CJB, I would closely evaluate the "development" of JR in his second year to determine if it makes any sense to stick around at Iowa, somehow hoping for the best. If I believed in my ability to develop and grow under good offensive coaching, I would immediately start looking for a program with proven results instead of squandering my remaining eligibility at Iowa.

Part of me wishes that CJ would start and lead us to a bowl win and still transfer, but then I realize I just want KF to leave and CJ to stay.

Good point. More than anything we need a good QB coach or an OC with FBS or NFL experience and KF needs to listen to him. KF isn't really the most qualified when it comes to QB.

CJ knows KF better than all of us and it's his way of finally removing himself from the situation and with one last shot at maybe a start. CJ leaves Iowa even if he lights it up as starter in the bowl game. He gone!

It's amazing how much we agree on football. :)
