Does Beathard Have Ferentz By The ----s?

That's kind of my point with the thread. No matter what happens, the CJ camp kind of put KF in a precarious situation. If he plays CJ and Beathard does well, KF looks bad because he didn't play him all season. If KF is too proud & saves face & doesn't play him, CJ transfers (prob along with a couple more players) & KF looks bad because he didn't utilize and play the best talent.

KF is pretty much screwed & between a rock and a hard spot.

He gets what he deserves. Screw Kirk

It's amazing how much we agree on football. :)

Yep, the writing is on the wall at this point. I agree with the poster that said we'll know CJB's fate after the 1st quarter of the bowl game. The telecast for this game just got interesting, as they will be showing CJB after every 3 and out. No one is even talking about the game at this point. Grab your popcorn fellas.

I don't find it classless at all. What I find classless is the following:

1. Embarassing a young man on national tv after the Nebraska game last year for doing a QB sneak for a last minute TD.
2. Embarassing a young man on national tv after the Pitt game this year by bringing up a bad practice....as if he's the only player that ever had a bad practice.
3. Convincing a young man to stay with a team by promising a shot at a starting job, then never once having a true open competition for said job.
4. Never once extolling the virtues of a young man when asked without also bringing up the virtues of the guy who he's trying to replace.
5. Publicly telling fans (and the young man, by default) that playing time would be coming and then never playing him.
6. Throwing a young man out for meaningless snaps and then calling a bullspit option play that ends up getting him hurt....all for no reason whatsoever.
7. Saying a young man "could" start the bowl game and then subsequently treating it like the biggest joke and troll job while getting a good chuckle out of it.

And let's not forget the "fart" jokes, the countless "that's football" instead of legitimate reasons for getting your a$$ handed to you time and time again by lesser teams, the "I wouldn't use the term unacceptable" to describe the 2014 season when your AD just described the season as unacceptable.

Shall I go on?

Now remind me....who's the classless one in this scenario of yours?

You see you are letting your hatred for KF bleed into the conversation of whether or not CJ and his dad should have done what he did.

Are you serious with this list? LOL

Look I am not here to defend KF as I think it's time for him to move on but regardless of what you, CJ, or his dad thinks is accurate that what was said shouldn't have been said.

Do I think CJ should have played more this year? yes

Do I think that he was given a fair shot in practice to beat out Jake? I don't know, I wasn't there.

Do I think that CJ and his dad have a right to be ****** that he didn't play more? Sure.

But again you don't go out behind your coaches back and say the type of things that they said. It goes 100% against what a team player should do.

I have no problem that CJ and his dad think he hasn't been gvien a fair shot this year but they are the one's that decided to send their kid here after Ole Miss said thanks but no thanks when Houston Nutt left. I also understand that coaches can't please every player when it comes to playing time. That is something players have to deal with some handling it better than others.

Look call me old school but if I am not getting on the field because of my play in practice I ask the coaches what I can do to improve and work my *** off to make sure I am ready when given the shot. If that doesn't happen well then you move on (like I assume) CJ will be doing after the bowl game but we will probably never know exactly went on and if CJ was clearly better (which according to him isn't the case)

I have to admit I do not get this suggestion that an ultimatum has been thrown out.

If KF thinks that CJ should start, I believe he will start him regardless of what was reported in the press.

All the Beathards said is that thing will run its course and they will have a much better idea after Jan 2 where CJ stands. At that point, it will be much easier to make a decision. Thats not an ultimatum.

You can't be serious?

Of course he or his dad didn't say that if he doesn't play he is transferring, that would be an ultimatum but below is about as close you can come to saying "if you don't play me I am transferring" as you can get.

Just think if every back up thought like CJ and his dad do.

"We'll see how the bowl game goes and then go from there," Beathard said in a phone interview Monday.

Although C.J. insisted he hasn't thought yet about the possibility of a transfer and won't until after the TaxSlayer Bowl, his father acknowledged it as a possibility.
"His biggest thing is he just wants to play," Casey said.
"He's really hoping he doesn't have to transfer," Casey said. "I said (to him), 'Hopefully it'll be obvious in this game, one way or the other.' "

CJ's dad's comments might be considered an ultimatum but not what CJ said. I don't see anything wrong with his Dad's comments either. Those are real world considerations by someone who is not a politician or in the public eye.

Yes, but you make it sound like CJ is blackmailing his coach, which is not the case.

Its just CJ being realistic about his options.

lol.. Okay!

Sorry, but your flat out wrong. At this level you don't air it out in the open for everyone to see how your feel unless there is a motive.

It's just CJ being realistic? lol That is classic..

I think this deserves a post of the year. Hit the nail on the head Spider.

Once again, this probably will not end well for the Iowa fans...I don't see KF caving to outside pressure by CJs family, especially in the light of going public now. He will more than likely now not play CJ at all to highlight his stance ...even at the peril of losing the game.
...and the majority of the fan base permanently

I don't think it matters very much. KF is going to play who KF wants to play. KF doesn't care what the fans and the media say. He has the iron clad contract and Gary Barta's balls in a jar by his bed. We are stuck watching the calender and counting down the days until either Barta is gone or KF's contract is up.

Why not just transfer now? This just creates more drama. Guess CJ and his dad wanted to bring this to light, before packing their bags. Get a few things out in the open (first time it's been an open competition, etc)

I am curious as to how many others leave?

I bet CJ is not the type of quitter to transfer now before the bowl game. He got to play a lot of minutes in the Outback Bowl last year and if he left now and JR got hurt in the bowl I bet CJ would really feel like he let his teammates down.

I fully expect CJ to transfer on Jan 3rd.

It's a classless move by CJ and his Dad. If you don't like the shot you are getting then transfer. But don't give a F'ing ultimatum to your son's coach via your hometown paper. That is something you just don't do.

It's like a helicopter dad of a 10 year old that thinks his 10U coach isn't playing his son enough at shortstop.

I think you are right. He should wait his chance and keep his mouth shut. We don't want competitors mucking things up for the Dictator. The last thing we would ever want on the Iowa team is a guy who thinks he's better than the guy playing, and is vocal about what he thinks he can do. That confidence will keep you on the bench under the current regime. After all, the guy playing only lost 5 games on an easy schedule. Which is simply disappointing...not unacceptable.

Wake up...sometimes you have to deal with life and it's unexpected curveballs...so deal with it KF and don't think you can control everything. Maybe that's why he's such a crappy game coach and can't out-think the other staff...because they think they know what should happen...and when it doesn't, they go all brain lock.

I don't think CJB was given a fair shot to win the starting quarterback position in practice. Seems that Ruddock practiced with the number one unit and CJB practiced with the number two unit. Hayden Fry has said several times, to my recollection, that both his first and second string quarterbacks took an equal number of snaps in practice.

The interview is not what you want in our program but I get it.

If you watched the QB play this year, heard the announcers of several games comment on it in a polite but negative way - and all the while your perfectly healthy, much more talented son is wasting time on the bench behind this easily recognized QB deficiency, you just might have taken all you are willing to take. It's not the way you would draw it up but I completely understand and I think the Beathard's have had quite enough of this goofy stuff and are completely entitled to voicing their intentions. Unfortunately for all of us I think this means we have same old QB for next game and year, then who knows what after that. I guarantee all of the players love JR but they all know who they want under center, and it's not him.
