Dickerson Thinks Atwood Will Commit

The limited video on him is interesting. Reminds me Brendan Dawson from MSU, perhaps a touch less athletic. Or perhaps like a way more athletic version of McCabe. Built like an undersized 4, but enough perimeter skills to play away from the basket. Certainly a body-type we are currently lacking.

Is Uhl more similar to a player like Uthoff? I can't find much info about Uhl's outside shooting ability, but from what I'm reading, he's versatile and can handle the ball. Also is similar height/weight to Uthoff.

I decided to check out his video since some one said Reggie Evans, 10 second in you can see there is zero similarity to Reggie Evans LOL.

I agree looks like a combo forward who would probably play the 3 mostly, above average athleticism but not great or at least the videos didn't show that, good jump shot, decent handles, average quickness.

no

atwood steps in for basabe (undersized 4)

the staff sees uhl as a 3

Don't really need another 4 next year, especially not an undersized one.

White needs to be at that spot to be effective, the remaining minutes at the 4 should go to Gabe IMO as he and Woodbury are both going to be too valuable to only be splitting time. Thats a good 3 man rotation at the 4/5 spots and thats all you need. Uthoff can also fill in there.

So you would see Atwood as #9 man off the bench?

From the videos I saw he looks like a much more athletic White with better handles and a better shot. He is pretty skinny right now and needs to put on some weight.

What Iowa is missing most is a leader on the floor to pull everyone together. I hope that Dickerson can be this person or if we can get Atwood that he can be as well.

instant B1G title contender if true

lol. Yeah, no.

The amount of people thinking a couple juco's (along with a pretty bad HS recruiting class) will take us to the promised land is humorous.

Sorry to burst bubbles.

Perhaps it will take us to a bit higher level of mediocre, but that's about it.

I saw the same thing. In other words he is a versatile 3/4 type that can handle the ball some and shoot it well for his size.

I'm thinking that Atwood is similar to a Hogue. Can defend the 3 spot, shot it a little from the outside, and isn't afraid to bang on the inside as well. I think Fran is looking for some toughness at this point.

I don't think Iowa is that far away from at least being considered a league "contender". Doesn't mean they'll win, but don't see why Iowa can't at least be in the picture. Don't cough up so many close games, and Iowa would have been right there THIS year. Who's to say how good Dickerson or Atwood would do in the Big Ten, but in case you missed it, there have been some pretty good JUCO's over the years, even at Iowa (Val Barnes, Reggie Evans, etc). JUCO doesn't automatically mean "SUCK".

From the limited video he looks more like a 3 to me. Not real tall and plays more from the outside in. If he can defend the 3 that would great too. I see him competing for that spot hopefully.

I really hope we don't play a 9th man off the bench this year. A rotation of 7 with an 8th getting spot minutes is ideal IMO.

Playing too many guys hurt Iowa this year, its hard to get in a rythm, the team lacked defined roles other than Marble, people played tentative in fear of making mistakes and being pulled, or they weren't pleased with their PT.

The only way you can play 9\10 in college bball is if you press all game and guys are legitimately too tired to play more than 20.

With the almost constant stoppages of play anymore you just don't need that many subs, ISU only plays two guys the majority of the game on their front line. Most teams rotate 3 guys in the 4 and 5 spots.

Maybe you missed it, but we were a contender this year, then it all fell apart. I still say we'll be a better TEAM without Marble...he took too many shots. So I don't think it's unrealistic to believe we can be as good next year as we were this....just without the collapse at the end.

It's impossible to "burst bubbles" by giving an opinion.

2 things we desperately need:

1) Versatility
2) Toughness

in no specific order

I'd put toughness as a clear number one here. We need versatility, too, but did we really have much of that this year? More toughness, and we might have even won the conference.

Have to agree. Meaning placing third or fourth would be acceptable as long as they don't lose their last 6 games. Without Atwood I'd say maybe 4/5. Thing is we need point production replacement by committee. And Atwood would help get more boards to get to that, and hopefully get to the line. White and Uhl could play 3 with either of them filling in four briefly.

Oh but between who's playing better you would interchange Uthoff with Uhl. Can they some how just play Uthoff at 2 if they were playing zone?

Buzz Williams disagrees with you. He makes a living off supplementing his roster with talented JUCO players and he seems to have success. Depending on what your classifying as "the promised land" I think getting Dickerson and Atwood on this roster definitely improves us to the point where we are again contending for a bye in the first round of the btn tourney. Maybe that is not what you're looking for, but typically finishing top 4 in either the best or 2nd best conference in the country is a successful season.
