Alexander Robinson is better than any back for Iowa right now. just look at last years stats if you need proof of this. could Jewel be as good or better? I guess we'll see. ISU has a more experienced O-line, I don't know if I'd say way better than Iowa's but they're a good group.

Looking at the numbers, stanzi and AA are pretty even. Go ahead and bring up # of wins and "clutch" performaces, but those of you who keep referring to yourself as "realists" would have to admit that Iowa has won games during the stanzi era despite his play as well.

The question "ISU hasn't scored a TD in how long?" keeps coming up, but lets not forget that ISU won without scoring a TD a few years ago.

This will not be a blowout like many of you are hoping for. I'm not saying that ISU is going to win, but it will be a game going into the 4th. If ISU out schemes iowa and doesn't make mistakes, you're kidding yourself if you don't think they're capable of winning.

I think Stanzi and Arnaud are comparable after looking at the numbers. What this means is neither one of them are that great really. Neither one have been spectacular when they aren't playing weaker teams. The problem for Iowa State is they need him to be because Iowa States defense isn't as good so they have to score to over come that. Iowa has (or at least had last year) an elite defense so Stanzi didn't have to be great and in fact they could win in spite of it.

I don't agree with the notion that ISU's A-Rob is better though. A lot, and I mean a lot of his yards were on terrible defenses. His only 100 yard game against a good defensive team was Iowa though so he's shown he can do it against us.

The other thing is, he's not the only focus in the backfield because of the offense that ISU runs that works to his advantage.

Iowa on the other hand usually runs a run first offense where the tail back is the focus. So he's getting his yards when everyone knows its coming. Plus Adam was sharing a lot of carries with Wegher and was injured a bit so his yardage may not look as good as it could have. Then when you add in Hampton, Iowas run attack should be fine.

I don't see Iowa blowing ISU out either if Arnaud holds on to the ball (which he's struggled to do). We aren't designed to but Iowa should win because they have the better defense and if they run the ball like they should (ISU's weekness is their run d if I'm not mistaken) Iowa will control possession and Stanzi won't have to do much.

1. you cannot just excuse a 63 yard run to make your point valid. fact is he ran for a 63 yard TD. that's like me saying "Iowa lost against MSU if it weren't for mcnutt catching a TD in the endzone with no time left on the clock". A-rob ran for 100 last year against iowa both behind and against nearly identical lines. what's to say the same won't happen this year other than your opinion?

2. let me get this straight, the ISU defense has a lot of inexperience and for that reason they will be terrible, but the Iowa O-line which is also rather inexperienced will have no problems at all? Right. at least you can be objective.... maybe i'm way off base, but I'll give the edge to experience over "well coached" inexperienced players every time.

3. I'm not knocking stanzi, but at least you didn't get all defensive or anything. all i'm saying is that statistically they are very similar. Put AA in a hawk uniform for the last 20 some odd games at Iowa and I'm guessing they have a very similar record.

Last years bowl game was the biggest win, hands down. anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. beating a Nebraska or and Iowa or anybody else doesn't mean **** if you don't parlay that into a bowl birth. And in that bowl game Austin made plays down the stretch to put his team in the position to win the game "when the spotlight was brightest".

And I would argue that from your perspective, the Iowa-ISU game and the Nebraska-ISU games are bigger deals than some POS "bowl" game.

It will be a game at halftime- Iowa up 17-6. But our offense wears down their defense in the 2nd half and they still cant score a TD on our defense. Iowa wins going away 31-9.

Point by point of rebuttal of VD's post quoted by HS4EVER.

1. Not discounting the run at all. He saw the hole, hit it, and was gone. He has nice breakaway speed. I'm simply pointing out that outside of that run, he did nothing. NIU kept him in check.

2. Rieff started three games last year, and played in a lot more than that. Vandervelde is a senior. Koeppel (who should get the start at center this week) is a senior. If Gettis plays, he's a junior. Zusevics has been in the program for a couple of years. Iowa's new guys on the o-line have experience in the system, ISU's new guys throughout the whole of the defense do not.

3. Agree to disagree.

4. The spotlight was bright in a game that no one saw and less people attended? ISU played a bad Minnesota team with a bad coach and had to have said coach outthink himself at the end to win. How many turnovers did Austen commit in that game? Four? He played like **** in that game, that Minnesota/Brewster allowed him the opportunity to clean up his own mess doesn't change that.

I'd rather beat a ranked team then an unranked Minnesota no matter what the game was called. Beating Penn State two years ago was a much better win then beating South Carolina. We were ranked the next year, which gave us a better shot at a championship, because we played well the second half of the year and because everyone saw us beat Penn State. The win over South Carolina was sugar on top.

That sounds pretty close, but I can see ISU making things interesting for a while. They'll going to try some things on both sides of the ball that Iowa will have to adjust to.

he has me blocked, yet responds to probably half the posts I make on this board. I find that a little humorous. It's like the guy who says he's over his old girl after he caught her cheating. He won't call her back, respond to texts, or even ackowledge her existence, yet he goes home every night and rubs one out to old pictures of them together and a few articles of clothing she left at his house.

I could debate all your points, but that would just be enabling your obvious obsession with me

My best advice for you is to stay away. 98 percent of posters on that site are complete idiots, most of whom think Iowa State is always better than Iowa. Just ask them, if Austin Arnaud wouldn't have thrown those 4 interceptions last year they would have been right there with a chance to win the game!

I was talking to an ISU fan the other day who I generally respect most of the time, and he thinks after watching the Cyclones Thursday night that they look like a team that can beat Iowa.

According to him, their A-Rob is better than ours, Arnaud is just as good as Stanzi, and their O-Line will dominate the LOS. If he had any credibility to begin with he lost it when he asked me this: You guys lost all four defensive linemen didn't you?

Oh, and the other reason to stay away is that you can provide them with FACTS, and do so RESPECTFULLY and that DB chris williams will ban you in a second. You are NOT allowed to say anything less than "Iowa State is the best football team in the country."

Sure. The Penn State game probably gave Iowa a better chance to win the national championship game the next year. Beating a top 5 team is better for your program then winning a mid level bowl game. It raises you prestige and gives you national interest and in college football the name of the game is prestige and national interest since that's how championships are awarded.

VD, what do you think got ISU more run last year?

1. Beating Nebraska in Lincoln for the first time since the Carter administration,

or,

2. Beating a bad Minnesota team in a bowl game that only ISU fans cared about?

Iowa had the whole trophy case at the State Fair this year. Orange Bowl, Floyd, Cy-Hawk, Heartland, and the national championship from wrestling. Pretty neat.

Nebraska was a very solid team last year and Minnesota held Iowa to 171 total yards. It should be a good game next week.

Iowa State fan responds with post of youtube video of last years win in basketball or something meaningless like that.
