Cy-Hawk Hoops: Big Game Tonight

I also can't say that the Iowa-Iowa State basketball game has meant anything more to me through the years other than being the next game on Iowa's schedule and as a fan, just wanting Iowa to win every game they play.

Honestly I think it's the same on both sides. This game is generating zero interest around my office full of Cyclone and Hawkeye fans. In fact I couldn't even remember last year's game, apparently ISU won 81-71. The last one I remember was 2008 when ISU got waxed in Carver. I sort of remember 2005. After that it's a blur.

The only reason I remember last year's game is because Cully hit a bunch of late threes to screw an ISU cover. I didn't even watch it but I remember that much.

ISU hasnt played basketball for the past 4 years. So I don't know how you remember these games.

What many fans need to understand, especially Clone fan, is that had Matt Gatens been at his usual form making his 3 point shot, Iowa would have beaten UNI easily. Folks do realize he is 2 of his last 16 from beyond the arc. That will not continue as Matt is a much better shooter than that. Not to mention only hitting 12 of 23 from the foul line and missing numerous shots around the rim. Iowa controlled the whole game against UNI. Now I don't know what trouble expect tonight as the game will be fast paced, but Iowa is a better team, much better than the one that lost to South Dakota St.

Do you watch ISU basketball?

If not I dont know how you can say Iowa is a better team....

I don't think that Iowa is a better team. I think that they are playing at home.

The only one on Iowas team that I was impressed with was Cole and only because of his inside game.

UNI didn't get the shots they had to go down or they would have won by 20.

Neither team shot the ball well on Tuesday. Iowa was under 30% at the half, if I remember right.

UNI is a quality opponent, and it's good to know that Iowa can play a game on the other guys terms and still come out on top.

Is ISU basketball on tv?

Exactly, I have season tickets and have been to all the home games. I would be suprised if half the people on here have tickets to Hawkeye basketball and go to the games.

Not trying to insult you guys, but it seems like your attendance hasnt been great recently.

Exactly what? I didn't ask if you've been to every game, I really don't care. I asked if ISU basketball had been on TV at all this year.

It's no secret that Iowa's attendance has been down. When your team is getting its head caved in every night, and playing an excruciatingly boring brand of basketball, that isn't surprising.

There - I gave you a nice segue into the inevitable "ISU fans are more loyal because we show up every night even if the team sucks" comparison..

I'm sorry, that was poorly worded on my part. I'm not saying Iowa is a better team than Iowa St., IDK that yet and really nobody does. We will find out tonight. What I meant was that Iowa is a much better product now, over how they looked against South Dakota St. They are getting better each game out as I think they will again tonight. Will it be enough to win? Like I said IDK, reason being is I don't really know how good Iowa St is. Their fast start record wise was against terrible competition. The 3 teams they played with a pulse, (Creighton, UNI and California), they lost two of them and only won 1, that should have went to OT.

Yes, I'll wait to pass judgement on that too. Like I said earlier, I think it's going to be a fun game to watch for sure.

I think Iowa wins this one in a close one.

Iowa's inside game should torch the Clones. Only way ISU wins comfortably is if they are on fire from three-point land, which is unlikely on the road. Only way Iowa wins comfortably is if they get a bunch from Gatens, who is struggling up until now.

Before watching ISU-UNI IOWA-UNI, I would definately favored ISU. I will go with Iowa now. I do watch both teams play whenever I get the chance. Hope ISU does well after tonight but the UNI game they just did not look good. (I know its one game)

You are comparing apples to oranges, I could say that you lost to SDST and don't look good, but I know better.
