Cubs Spring Training

we are going to be terrible, on the mound, at the plate, and in the field.

Castro will have 50 errors with lahair at first, no one will have more than ten wins, and we might have one guy hit more than twenty home runs.

Serious question is Lahair a liability at first base? i have been wondering this for a while.

He's definately going to fall into the serviceable to liablity range, and I think the lattter is more likely. The problem is Pena and Lee were both outstanding, and Castro is not an accurate thrower of the baseball. 50 errors is an exaggeration, but I fully expect 30+ from him this year, even if he improves over last year.

Obvious troll is obvious

I would agree we have been spoiled with defensively gifted first baseman. I'm all down with giving Lahair this opportunity but I myself am waiting for Rizzo i think that guy is going to be the next Adrian Gonzalez.

LaHair is not a good defensive first baseman, Pena saved a bunch of Castro errors last year. If LaHair does not get it done with the bat then expect Rizzo in June. If LaHair does get it done with the bat then expect Rizzo late July or early August as I could see LaHair traded to a contending AL team.

For those of you hoping to see Brett Jackson break spring training with the big club - it's not happenin'.

Brett Jackson, Anthony Rizzo, Adrian Cardenas, Jay Jackson, and Jim Adduci were all sent to AAA camp this morning.

I don't believe Jackson and Rizzo will join the Cubs this year unless there is an injury or trade. Front office definitely wants them to get more time in AAA.

Rizzo and Jackson will more than likely be up in June. They have to keep them in the minors until then to have another year of control over them. It has very little to do with them needing more time in AAA. Its all about arbitration control.

Yeah we should see them in June. There really is no need to rush them up and saving the arbitration year makes a bunch of sense. Tbh, I wish Hendry would have done this last year with Castro.

I watched some spring ball last night (replay game). LaHair looks awful at firstbase, Barney looks like he forgot how to play shortstop, but the hitting looked good. Mather looks like he is hitting his way on to the bench, his versatility of being able to play different positions is nice and he hits with power. Stewart finally hit his first home run and Soriano is still crushing the ball.

Both Clevenger and Castillo looked good at the plate. I still think Clevenger wins the back up job since he gives you another left handed bat on the bench. Also this allows Castillo more playing time as the starting catcher at Iowa, a role I think he will eventually have in Chicago once they trade Soto.

From a wins stand point we are not going to be all that happy with this team. But it is going to be fun to watch this team develop.

It's not like we are in a hurry for some of these up and comers. This year is going to be a project anyway. And if the Cubs finish the season anywhere near .500 I will be impressed.

Will the Cubs promote them in June if they are slumping in AAA?

Doubt it. It's not all about arbitration control. Hoyer rushed Rizzo last year in SD and Rizzo struggled mightily. Hoyer's on record as saying they won't make the same mistake twice.

Sveum said Jackson is ready, but it's all about the numbers. If the same OF'ers are still healthy come June, I don't see how they call Jackson up. When Jackson is called up, it will be as an everyday player.

Did anyone happen to catch Ian Stewart's throw from his knees on ESPN's top plays last night? Pretty sweet...the team may actually show a few flashes here and there and be relatively fun to watch.

Looking around stubhub and there are so many cheap tickets available it's ridiculous and I live close enough to take advantage. This season is going to be awesome.

Randy Wells optioned to AAA. Rotation seems set. Garza, Dempster, Maholm, Samardzija and Volstad seem to be the guys.
