Cubs Spring Training

Hey Cubs did finally win one today 11-4 over the Rockies. Soriano hit 2 homers and Brett Jackson hit one.

I came here just to post this video. Beat to the punch haha

Awesome! IF they ever do get to the series, and IF they were to ever win it?!?! Yea, I'd be there somehow...maybe not in Wrigley, but in Chicago. That would be unreal.

As for the video game itself, looks pretty good to me. I can't wait to pick it up, maybe I can become the guy at the end of the video.

Holy crap! Check out the jumps on Rizzo! Too bad he's starting in Iowa...well, not so bad actually if a guy wants to go check him out in Des Moines. Also, Sveum says Jackson to start in Iowa, too. Says there isn't enough room with such a great outfield of DeWitt, Johnson, and Baker. Yep, rebuilding mode...youngsters look good, though.

I don't know about that. If he keeps proving he belongs making plays like that plus hitting and LaHair keeps laying an egg in spring ball I don't know why you would start him in Iowa. This has been one of the battles I have been interested in seeing this spring.

Baker sucks. I'm sick of him. Start Jackson in center, get rid of Baker and let Byrd be a bench player.

Baker is a utility man. He will be on the team to play several infield and outfield positions. I truly believe the only reason Rizzo and Jackson start in Iowa is so that they can get some trade value for Byrd and maybe LaHair. Also, if they aren't promoted until after June 1 (I believe) they don't lose a year of arbitration eligibility which Ibelieve is what the cubs are truly after. Do not worry they will be in Chicago this year for sure.

I think the arbitration thing is the main reason they will start in Iowa. Basically it gives you an extra year of cheaper talent if the player happens to be good. It's also something that well run franchises do so it's cool to see that the Cubs happen to be doing this.

I don't want to see Jackson in the Majors yet. He's been great in the Minors but I'm cool with waiting a little bit longer to let him develop some more down in AAA and let him mash for a while in a hitters park to build some confidence. He's only 22 so there is no reason to rush him. Plus, no reason to waste that arbitration year.

I'm not sure how the arbitration thing works with Rizzo since he's played in the majors but the same can be said for him. I'm pretty excited to see him on the Cubs though as I can't remember the last time they had a good 1st base prospect (Choi maybe though I don't know if he was highly regarded or not).

I also know that now that last years good draft picks are going to be playing for an entire season that the low minors will be fun to follow. Can't wait until following both the Majors and Minors will be fun.

Rizzo will be in Iowa. Hoyer admitted he called him up too soon in SD last year and is not going to make the same mistake again. Rizzo struggle mightily in MLB last year.

Regarding Jackson, he will be in Iowa until an injury occurs or someone is dealt. You don't call him up to sit on the bench. He hasn't played a full year in AAA and it is not going to hurt him at all to begin in AAA. He needs to continue to work on cutting strikeouts down. Your MLB OF will be Soriano, Byrd, and DeJesus. While he may outperform them in ST, the chances of Jackson being in the opening day roster are slim.

Castro was called up because he was ready and the Cubs needed a jolt. I don't blame Hendry for calling him up, regardless of arbitration. Castro is a franchise guy, they will not allow him to get away.

HAHA...just picked up MLB The Show 12, Soriano lays out for a diving catch for the second out of the first inning....yea, right. Thought this game was supposed to be "real"....

Cubs beat the White Sox today. And, I picked up the MLB 2K12/NBA 2K12 combo pack today. Through 2 games I have 3 errors with Barney and 2 errors with Castro ... so it's pretty realistic.

For those of you who haven't been following - Soriano has been absolutely destroying the ball this spring.

There is nothing not to like about this. Makes him more enticing to an AL team as a DH, or he carries it over to the season and *almost* makes people quit griping about his salary w/ his offensive outburst. Almost.

Still, really good to see him pulverizing the ball in ST.

Soriano always goes on a crazy hot streak at some point of the season. This one is just happening during spring training and that's annoying.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Hopefully he will go through one of his slumps soon so he will be ready by opening day.
