CUBS: Kid-K Kerry Wood Retiring

So apparently this info wasn't supposed to get out today. His plan was to pitch one last time and then ride off into the sunset without telling anybody until after it was over with. He broke the cardinal rule though, he told his wife his plans, and this is what happened...

Wow. If his wife did this, he can't be happy! :)

That pic he looks a little like Leonardo DiCaprio..I have not checked out your links yet, but I do know that KW put a lot torque on his elbow when throwing his breaking pitches more so than the average pitcher.

Yes, the story being reported now is he planned on announcing his retirement Sunday after the end of one last Sox-Cub series, but the wife spilled the beans, and that pushed it up to today. He probably will get to pitch today, one last time,to allow a fan tribute of sorts.

As a Sox fan, I wish he would wait til Sunday...Sox have lit him up over the years, and the Sox need to get some momentum for this season this weekend.

Calling people names is the best way to show just how smart you are. And yeah its about time Kerry retires. No joke man
Wood is one of the greatest Cubs of all time and loved being a Cub. He took a hometown discount to come back and play in Chicago and love the organization. To throw that comment out there when he realizes that he just doesnt have it anymore and is going to hang it up makes you an idiot. Go back to teh rasslin board.
your lucky your calling me an idiot from behind a computer screen tough guy. I guess im only aloud to have an opinion in the wrestling board. By the way the the Cubs suck!

Yep. The links talk about about the torque and reliance on the slider and the inverted L form. The Prior link is a lot longer and has comparisons to Greg Maddux and Nolan Ryan. Interesting stuff and a bit nerdy, but things to consider. I still think every pitcher is different and need to be handled differently.

On the DiCaprio front, thanks for that! :)

Yeah, I hope he gets one last shot at the Sox. Would be fun. Do you think he would throw at AJ? :)

AJ has demonstrated in past Cubs-Sox series that he is a tough customer who can take a punch....nice try Barrett.

there is a huge difference between a 27 mature man throwing 100+ pitches and a 17 year old kid egos grown 6 inches over the last 3 years throw 175 two days after throwing 100+.

I'm talking about the concept of pitch count as a whole, not the Kerry Wood HS issue in itself (sorry, should have clarified).

Ask Nolan Ryan his thoughts on pitch count.

AJ is awesome.. and truly an aware and good player. Cubs fans be butt-hurt up in here.

So the fact that he is continually listed and referred to as one of the most hated players in MLB has nothing to do with it?!

People hated him when he played in San Fran too.

Guy is a genuine punk when he is on the diamond.

2004 Cubs rotation - WoodPriorZambranoClementMaddux I thought for sure that team was going to run through the rest of the NL. Instead they made like one rotation where all five started in a row.
Agreed. They actually finished with a better record in 2004 than they did in 2003 but missed the playoffs. Blew some games to the Mets at the end of the season the same weekend Drew Tate almost got his face ripped off in Ann Arbor. That team also made the trade for Nomar right before the deadline.
lost 7 of the last 9 games ...... it was actually the 2nd to last weekend they lost to mets on a couple of blown saves by one Latroy Hawkins. the last weekend they lost to the Braves that Sunday game was the one Sosa left early.
