Cornerback Manny Rugamba Leaving Iowa Program

Good sign for the program when a talented kid cant find a place to play and its an underclassman or two that are driving him down the depth chart. Talented but wildly inconsistent. Agree with the suggestion that its best for all parties, excited for the secondary going forward. Tons of talent waiting to knock someone else out of a starting spot. Thats a sign of progress.

Yes, as has been pointed out by others, i usually take a hard line, see you later, could care less about a kid once he's gone stance. Id like to see a kid honor his commitment and fight hard to earn the spot back. When someone transfers out, although there may be behind the scenes items we dont hear about, a lot of the time its writing on the wall and its quit and move on. Id rather have the underclassmen def backs that are taking spots away and pointing others to the door. In this case i dont wish Manny any ill will. Still wish a kid would say, no, uh uh, im sticking and earning my spot back. Just my opinion.
Good luck in your future Manny. Finish your education wherever that may be.

I don’t think I have seen anyone on here suggest this, but perhaps he had decided he was going to leave the program BEFORE he tweeted.

I thought it was implied by some of the first people who commented on the tweet that he had already decided to leave and thus didn't care about the silly rules.

I dont know which way it went, but his exit statement might have had a much different tone. He might have been encouraged to leave after meeting about PT, the depth chart, his future. As much as some KF haters complain we are happy with just winning 7, perhaps this, and telling a 4* rb, tough luck see you later are signs that we mean business. Sleep on us and we will sign a kid we like just as much even if you out * him. Its not personal, thats football :)

The guy made a cryptic tweet of a clock, which seemed to be his way of saying the announcement was coming. Doesn't seem like much of a mystery.

I wish him well, but we can always use another scholly. If we really did cool on Brock simply because of scholarship numbers, I wish he would have just told them sooner that he was leaving rather than trying to create some mysterious drama.

Well it seems obvious now that he knew it was time to move on.
I won't say for sure why, but depth/competition makes the most sense. Not injured and it's not like he hasn't been through off season work outs and camps before.
I don't think the cooling on Brock was a scholarship issue, because I still don't recall for sure if that Juco walked on. Plus Goodson hadn't committed, at least not publicly.
I still think Goodson showed he was honestly interested and excited to be a Hawk and the staff saw a perfect fit. Once he saw it was a great fit and saw the same vision they had for him, there was no way they were not going to give him a chance.

He played in 12 games I think, there's no way to spin this as "good" - or for the better IMO. It stinks and it takes a hit at the depth. The only thing you can say positive is it was a position that Iowa has been extremely strong in the past several seasons and has recruited very well at. His experience will at the very least be hard to replace.

I'm not trying to say it's good. I'm not saying it's bad.
I'm saying that there has to be reasons why someone who has played as a starter is moving on.
Only he can say what those are.
When it comes to deduction, we know off season work outs didn't cause him to crack or second guess, because he has done them before. As far as we know he's healthy and not injured. So what else could it be?
He has visions of playing pro ball and I hope he does, but you don't get the looks if you are not playing. This had to be an extremely hard decision for him.
A. Do you stay and dig deeper and try to crack back into the starting roles.
B. Do you transfer to a more minor conference and have a few years to try and hone yourself and caft and try to get looks.
C transfer to a P5 and sit and reduce it down to basically one shot.

I wish him the best, hope he finishes his education and does well in his future endeavors.

That's a fair take. I think I read where Phil P had said that he thought Manny had lost his focus and wasn't making football a priority for a while. Still stinks for Iowa IMO - he may not have been the starter, but he was going to relied on IMO for this up coming season.

I think we will be fine from a talent stand point.
So this might be a wake up call to others to make sure you know the play book and communications, because being a great student of the game, could be what separates some of the younger talent now.

It was probably just a roster issue at the RB spot. Scholly or not they like the Sargent kid and with him having 3 yrs to play and then they just clearly had a good idea Goodson was coming and preferred him style wise over Brock when pairing him with both Sargent and Geil who may end up redshirting. It all made sense to me. Now if Brock goes on to be a stud and we struggle it'll be a head scratching move but only time will tell. That sort of thing goes for pretty much every spot when hitting and missing on recruits. Granted Brock was more of a local guy and highly thought of as well but RBs are a bit of a crapshoot and often products of the environment in which they play. Barry Sanders is about the only RB that I can remember that dominated and I don't use that word lightly but absolutely dominated defenses with a below par Oline and offense overall around him. It took the best Oline pro football pretty much ever had for Emmitt Smith to do what he did (and good health)

I agree. ^^^^^^^
I still think that they seen stars in their eyes with Goodson. I bet they push him like they did Wadley. To gain 15-20 without losing a step.
Can you imagine a 210-215 pound Wadley??

Have you stayed in the same job for all your life? Married to the same person? Had the same girlfriend?
