WOW! Lehigh is a lot better than I would have guessed.
No way I thought Cornell would lose this year.
Hawks can make some real noise at Nationals this year, but they need to get Janssen and Gambrall on track. Grant is really worrying me lately.

Also concerned, JMO, we need a less defensive wrestler at this weight. Grant is good just need a go getter here.

At Midlands, it seemed every time I looked at a mat that didn't have a Hawk wrestling, there was a Lehigh guy....and looking pretty good.

I think GG needs to get a fire in his belly. Seems somewhat passionless to me. Needs more urgency and relentlessness. Like McD. like Ramos, like Mark Ballweg, like Janssen. At MIdlands, Janssen looked very good. Much better than last year. He got thrown at OSU, but I think he'll do fine the rest of the way. Luke Lofthouse has even been looking very good in getting after people and being relentless also. ST. John, E Lofthouse, and Rasing all seem to need a jump start with their motors, and 149 is what it is, our 3rd stringer going out and doing the best he can.

I've noted that Dake bumped up a weight from last season and reportedly is still struggling with maintaining his weight. I don't see him as a clear cut favorite this year, but I wouldn't count him out either.

Also, with Cornell getting beat I think it's wide open this year to win it all. I think PSU is the favorite (and I hate to admit it) but we'll see how much Iowa has improved on 30 January!

If we win NCAA's this year that'd be awesome and Brands would deserve a bronze statue in front of CHA.

If we don't I hope like heck that Cornell beats PSU!

Couldn't agree more. It's pretty impressive what they are doing at Cornell considering academic standards, lack of tradition, etc. I'm fine if they win it for sure. (given iowa doesn't of course, which we won't this year)

Actually for years now cornell has been notorious for ignoring their academic standards when it comes to athletes. They also allow wrestlers to skirt around the ivy leagues no redshirting rule but taking years to train outside of the program (grey was with the NYAC for a while). I know that several of the Ivy League coaches have been airing greivances about cornells lax standards of admission.

....I hate Cornell.

Three words I never thought I would see written or hear in succession. Why do I have this odd feeling you're getting your Cornell's screwed up and you went to Coe? ....or maybe you went to Brown; I dunno. Still an odd thing to post without with a reason given.

I just replied and it said i wasn't logged in. I was logged in and is there a time limit? This has happened before and it sucks.

Years or a single year? You indicate in your post that wrestlers spent years, which is plural, outside the program training. A look at the Cornell roster, comparing age to academic year, 'years' would be inaccurate. I know some, like Grey, took a year off between being graduated HS and enrollment. A perusal of other Ivy league schools and rosters in various sports would seem to indicate this is not an unusual occurrence.

I can't speak for the lax of academic standards in favor of athletics, but it wouldn't surprise me. After all many of the schools will relax their 'standards' for various reasons like race, ethnicity, and the almighty dollar.
