Cornell goes down!

Now that you say it, it is interesting that Evan Knight from Urbandale committed to wrestle at Cornell last year and is now training at the otc in colorado.

I had thought he'd open up his recruiting again and come to iowa. We'd use depth, if nothing else, at 197.

Years or a single year? You indicate in your post that wrestlers spent years, which is plural, outside the program training. A look at the Cornell roster, comparing age to academic year, 'years' would be inaccurate. I know some, like Grey, took a year off between being graduated HS and enrollment. A perusal of other Ivy league schools and rosters in various sports would seem to indicate this is not an unusual occurrence.

More than one wrestler has taken a year off, so i went with the plural years. For a person who uses the term "being graduated HS" I find it interesting you would choose to overanalyze my vocabulary.

Three words I never thought I would see written or hear in succession. Why do I have this odd feeling you're getting your Cornell's screwed up and you went to Coe? ....or maybe you went to Brown; I dunno. Still an odd thing to post without with a reason given.

Agree...Cornell is a pretty hard team/program to dislike. Frankly, i thought they had the best fans in Omaha last season and it was not even close. They treated Iowa fans very well and were knowledgeable fans.

Agreed, they're fans are very knowledgable. I've gone to EIWA's a few times and they know their stuff. I consider the EIWA the second toughest conference, which is getting stronger every year. I think its hard to dislike a program like Cornell that helps the sport. From a marketing standpoint, its very helpful to have an Eastern team excel. And with teams like Lehigh, Cornell, and Penn consistently wrestling well over the last decade the EIWA has only increased the quality of the sport.

I disagree...it's easy to dislike any team that's #1, especially when they're #1 for a long time...unless it's your team of course. That's how Iowa has collected so many followers who do not wish us well :)

I hand it to you, most people that post inaccuracies with no basis in fact and are subsequently called out for it usually stay away from said topic. You're not and for that I applaud you.

What you posted about Cornell Universiy and how they go about their wrestling/athletic business compared to their Ivy League counterparts would lead people to many erroneous assumptions. This is a message board where people come to talk about sports in general and Hawkeye sports in particular. We can all get overly zealous in this pursuit, which is what probably happened with you.

So, "erroneous assumptions" "overly zealous" haha I assume its www.thesaurus.com? ?

But to address your point:

1. I do happen to know for a fact that there have been several wrestlers who went to cornell while being rejected from every other ivy they applied to

2. I understand it is for hawkeye sports, but both you and I replied to a topic about cornell wrestling, so we're both at fault.

3. You didn't question my statement, you questioned my vocabulary.

4. I have no problem with what I said and I stand by the fact that if you ask around to people in the wrestling community they too will admit something is funny that a school of such high academic standards is able to recruit a top 5 class every year while every other Ivy barely sniffs a Top ten class. It is actually understood that some coaches are able to bend the acceptance standards once in a while for a great athlete that will help the program and the institution but not so routinely that it becomes so obvious we are discussing it on an Iowa Hawkeye message board

5. This is the end of this idiotic topic, Cornell lost, the Hawks weren't the ones who beat them so I am currently over it. I'd much rather talk about the Hawks then the Big Red. So... Good talk.

Mr. Olive, I tried to be diplomatic with my statements; that's my fault. I'll go ahead and cut to the chase- My issue with your post had zero to do with the fact you expressed yourself poorly (you did and by your admission), and also has nothing to do with your poor spelling and/or grammar (also true). After all this is a message board and in our haste the keyboard gets ahead of the brain.

Concentrate on this instead- What you said about Cornell University Wrestling/Athletics was a misrepresentation of the facts. L-I-E

Looks like Koll should spend more time focusing on his own team instead of crying to the media about what Iowa does.

it is interesting that Cornell got beat. Just shows that upsets can and do happen. so for those who think Iowa is down and can't win the big one this year, best hold your breath. I am not saying they will, but if Coach Tom and company can get a fire built under the people already taked about in previous posts, don't over look Iowa. I would love to see iowa win it, if we don't so long as we finish above PSU, i will be happy.

Rutgers crushed #3 VT last night too. Not enough consistency from the top teams so far this year (except PSU).

I'd love to see that too. Because it'd mean we just pulled off one of the bigger upsets in history and we extended the national championship streak!
