concern for girl

No link, just based on work experience somewhat related to the subject and observations of the world. Does anyone really think there is an epidemic of women going around making up this kind of charge?

On a national level, the two most headline grabbing rape stories in the past 5 years have been the IMF guy and the Duke lacrosse team. Those were both made up. But I don't think there is an epidemic. There are a ton of cases of "he said, she said" where both admit sexual contact took place and the only issue consent. And those things are an absolute mess to prove for the prosecution. I don't have a link, but I remember hearing a couple years ago that Crook County has all but stopped prosecuting them unless it is something egregious (e.g., passed out or drugged alleged victim) because they are very expensive for the cash strapped County and the conviction rate is very low. Teach your sons not to be a-holes and your daughters to be careful is about all I can say.

I may be a dick for posting this but I think he makes some good points. Not saying assualting a woman or rape is ok.

to begin with she did go to the hospital

Not arguing with you or blaming the alleged victim but as I understand it she was interviewed by investigators, who encouraged her to go to the hospital for the evidence collection. Unless there were other factors such as physical injury, that's SOP, I believe.

I don't know how many women will subject themselves to the humilliation of making a rape claim nor the physical exams that have to take place afterwards. Not many that's for sure.

I'm guessing most of, but not all, of the "he said-she saids" are where the dude probably went too far.

Roxanne Conlin stepping in. Iowa's Gloria Alred! Somebody smell a lawsuit against University of Iowa (deep pockets)and Coker(potential earnings).

Why did the young lady not file charges? Likely because her name would have leaked. Everyone would have known her private business. People would have treated her differently.

And when the trial arrived, he sexual history would be public record on display in court as a defense. And how about preference for athletes when the face trial. OJ? Kolby Bryant? Saterfield/Everson-a slap in the wrist. To have her name permanently associated with the alleged assault. Not worth it to her, will not change the past.

If she felt she was assaulted, she likely is not in a good place emotionally and has a rough road ahead of her. Her life will never be the same.

As much as I do not have great respect for "Foxy Roxy," I, too, wonder why Coker was allowed to play the last five games if the university became aware of the allegations in late October. Can only assume the investigation was not complete at that point.

he was not charged. They would have needed a reasonable believe that charges were coming to suspend him at that time, which would have been obviously wrong.

to begin with she did go to the hospital

She would go to the hospital to get the rape kit done by a medical professional, do you think law enforcement officals do them at the sub-stations? If there were other injuries bruising, redness, scratches) he would have gotten charged with battery w/ substantial or additional charges that are related to and would accompany "physical" injuries.

do i get any official credit or certificate from your office with all of the legal knowledge gained as a follower of iowa football? is that something that can be electronically submitted, or do i need to submit paper docs for the certificate request?

On the contrary, it would be good form for you to send O'Keefe a token of your gratitude. $1,500 via PayPal seems about right, or 5,000 Chizek coins, or one used Steve Alford riding lawnmower, as you prefer.

so because he didn't beat her she wasn't assaulted? that is ******* brilliant.

All I said is she was taken to the hospital to have the rape kit performed, if there were other signs of "physical" assault he would have been arrested and charged accordingly. Thanks for the enlightening responses, was as good as I expected.

I just do not understand why no official release about what went on. The university needs to explain themselves.

I will say this, I had a buddy who had a 1 night stand with some random girl in college. She thought it meant a relationship, my buddy wasn't looking for the same thing. She got all psycho and went to the cops saying my buddy raped her and abused her.

He had to go through the process and the cops did come to our house and asked him to come down town to answer questions. He was never charged as we found out this broad pulled this stunt once before. But she did come after him and trashed our house one night while we were out drinking. She was a nut case.

I am not saying Marcus is innocent, but crap like this stuff happens.

Yup, thats what I have been trying to say. I also know guys this has happened to.

I know of no on here who has proclaimed Coker guilty.

I do know of people who have accused the girl of being after "her 15 min" and seen people suggest she was making it up because she wasn't treated for physical battery at the hospital.

Thing for me is Coker seemed like a great person. Kf always had positive things to say about the type of person he was. So I think it caught alot of us off guard when he was suspended and then accused or whatever. So atleast in my case at first I thought about Coker's point of view, but now that he is leaving I have sat back and looked at in a different light.

I can not believe no one has any concern about the girl in this case. She went to the hospital. We do not know if she was injured or not. Did they do a rape kit? Was she injured in any other way? I have no idea what happened or do most of the people posting on message boards. I know many people like to blame the girl in cases like this. Like I say we do not know all the details about this case. I just hope the girl is ok.

Perhaps people are just pointing out the OP was curious about if the female was treated for other injuries at the hospital. If that was the case Coker would have had additional charges, on top of the charges he was being accused of.

As a father of 4 college aged women I in no way blame the woman in this case.

I do constantly remind my daughters to be careful of the situations they put themselves in and never let themselves be in isolated situations where they have no back up.
I am very lucky my girls have the self confidence to stand up for themselves and the tools to protect themselves. I still worry that they can be assaulted and pray they never find themselves in a situation like this.
