Because Iowa lost the game and especially in Minnesota-esque fashion then it's that big of a deal.

No, this is a big deal regardless. The quarterback is often the face of your program, and you don't let him (or in this case, them) talk to the media after the game?

Say Iowa won this game and Beathard or Rudock played very well to lead us to victory. You think keeping him from talking to the media would be glossed over? ********. If it were Beathard who played well, led us to victory and was then escorted away from the media without taking questions, that would only rile everyone up even more (especially after Kirk downplayed his performance against Pitt with the whole bad practice talk).

Good point, but I am not going to lose my mind over this. I am not saying a change isn't needed. I think it is unfair for people to scream fire him, incompetent boob, etc., etc. because I am not at practice. I don't know the evaluation structure of players at practice. I don't know how players respond to coaching criticism. So with all the unknown, I choose to sit and enjoy the game. I do think that we have a very limited roster of athletes. I do think the team has a very low football IQ. Of course, I have more thoughts but since I am not a pitchfork bearing wildman nobody cares.

If you've been "enjoying" the game...I'm pretty sure you are probably a Clone fan or at very least not a big fan of football/athletics in general anyway.

I don't cover this team, and I'm more than a little upset because I'm still able to be a fan. But I suppose instead of words like shi***, I could use putrid, fetid, festering, septic, etc. Any of which would accurately describe at least part of what Iowa football has become.

And honestly, journalists (at least all the ones I've met) tend to swear more than the average person, anyway.

Vandenberg played far worse than Rudock or Beathard have this year in 2012, and he was never once shielded from the media. I've got a lot of respect for how he stood tall throughout that season, doing everything he could to stay positive (at least publicly) in the midst of perhaps the most miserable season a quarterback can have.

Both Rudock and Beathard were ready and willing to take questions. So what was different yesterday?

There was no Rudock to Vandenberg. There is a Beathard to Rudock.

More importantly, KF wasn't feeling the hot seat with Vandy Solo; he is with Rudock/Beathard.
I'm really not surprised that a guy that has run a tight ship doesn't tighten his grip when the ship is sinking.

So everybody that wants Ferentz fired should be happy he did this. It's evidentiary that KF is feeling the heat and that the heat is real.
It's not the smoking gun (that big of a deal). The smoking gun is the performance on the field.

I am a fan and understand my role as a fan. I cheer;I yell; I complain. I don't think fan base websites are filled with the most logical thinkers. I read the site to smile and then I remind myself that my generation is a major part of the "need an explanation" for every decision made. Coach made a decision. It is his decision. Do I agree with it? No, but do I respect it? Yes. At the end of the day, even when Lickliter was coaching hoops I turned in and watched, cheered, yelled, complained. I love Iowa athletics. I don't think everything is all right, but I can't fix it.

History is littered with guys like you respecting authority and allowing atrocities to flourish. I believe the Tennessee game falls into the atrocity category. We completely got our ***** handed to us in all aspects. That's not Iowa Football. For 4 years, we never lost a game by more than 7 points...or one score. This team wasn't even close to that level of competitiveness. What does that tell you? It's called a downward spiral...and we are circling above the also rans of college football right now...but we can't beat any teams with a pulse right now.

Your part in fixing it is small, but you do have a voice. There is a way for you to fix it. You join the growing part of the fan base that says this is unacceptable. You don't have to stop going to the games and supporting the team (although that's another direction), but you can voice your displeasure with the results we are getting from the highest paid employee in the state. Email Barta...he's got to love that. Kirk Ferentz has been around the block, you aren't going to hurt his feelings. He's a .500 coach over the past 5 years and even he has to say that's not acceptable, but he's not...which tells me delusion has set in.

Don't buy into the rhetoric that Iowa can't win and it's hard to win at Iowa. He's done it...Fry did it...other "hungry" coaches will do it. The game has changed in the past 4-5 years, kids are different, yet our coach is stuck in an 80's time warp. IMO he has puckered up big time and his "play not to lose mentality" has become so pervasive that his players are risk averse and don't let it go like they should. You can't coach like that anymore. Alabama is a power team...and they play aggressively and take it to their opponents.

The most frustrating thing about yesterday is that the game played out like so many others over the past two years. We are Iowa and we were going to establish that physical running game...well, when they have 8-9 people, good sized athletes mind you, saying you won't...we needed to throw it and throw it over and over again. We didn't and it was a Wisconsin type result in the first half. How many times do you have to see that? Four weeks to prepare and that's all you got?

It's certainly another arrow in the quiver for reasons to want him gone. But if it didn't **** people off, then it wouldn't be another mark against him, would it?
