Campbell over/under

Everyone here is going to think I'm crazy, but I think he's there for the long haul. I think he turns their football team into a consistent 7-8-9 win program, and stays there until he doesn't want do it anymore. He is going to be what Hayden Fry was to Iowa.

I'll be the first to admit that I always root for ISU except for when they play my beloved Hawkeyes. It's a state pride thing for me.

I never understood the hatred that many Iowa fans have toward ISU fans & vice versa. Both fanbases talk trash about/to each other, but don't dish it out if you can't take it. The trash talk is all in fun, and makes the rivalry more interesting IMO.

Seasons after this one before he is plucked.

I'd put it at 2.5
I think he’ll stay as long as that Purdy kid is there at QB or until he gets a big time offer whichever comes first. So far it’s really looking like he hit the jackpot getting that kid over Alabama.

I suppose that all depends on the future of the B12. If it looks like the B12 is going to dissolve and ISU might end up in a non P5 conf, he definitely bolts.

The Purdy kid knew he could play rigth away at ISU.

Is Campbell's specialty offense or defense. His defense is winning him games especially in that conference where if you just make a team punt or turn it over 5 times you win. ISU beat two ranked teams last year and two so far this year.

It depends on how much he is making at ISU, who comes knocking on his door, etc . Not sure if a bunch of P5 teams are a step up but most Big 10, Pac 12, and SEC teams are a step up but ACC not so sure.

How much is he making?

I saw he is making 3.5 million at ISU so yeah if you can get 10 years there that is great

I dont think he has interest in the long term at Iowa State. He left Toledo early for ISU, he'll leave ISU early for the next job.

I just don't think the Big 12 is any good. Campbell came in and showed what playing defense can do in the Big 12.

You look at what their offense did against Iowa....nothing. People will say 'but the QB!" and its nonsense...they said "but the QB" the year before when it was Park vs Kempt, then they said the same thing in 2016 when it was Lanning vs Park. None of these QB's were able to beat iowa, but then their backup went on to do great things in the terrible Big 12...and all the ISU fans said "if only we had the backup QB we would have beaten Iowa'. This has happened THREE years in a row now

They couldn't move the ball at all vs Iowa. Doesn't matter who the QB is when you're gaining .8 yards per carry on the ground and Montgomery has 17 carries for 44 yards. Against WVU Montgomery had 29 carries for 189 yards.

I could see a Dan McCarney type tenure. The caveat being that McCarney got the program rolling just as Hayden's was going into decline, and had it's peak years when Kirk was rebuilding. For three or four years there Dan didn't have much competition in Iowa City.

Then there are Johnny Majors and Earle Bruce, who did use ISU as a stepping stone. So there a history of that end on it too in Ames.

Yeah I agree you are crazy. We live in a state with a small population base, limited D-1 talent and we compete against ISU for that talent. You can not have it both ways. A consistent ISU spells lost recruits for Iowa...period. I think he leaves this year...he doesn't view Ames as a destination, guaranteed.

.

Please. He will probably be the best coach they've had since McCarney... but spare me the Hayden comparison. What Fry did was unique and special... a hell of a lot more than just winning more games.

Dude can coach. Why not stay at ISU? Make some good money and do what Fitz has done at NW. But as a Hawkeye fan, I would love to see him take employment elsewhere.

I was thinking more like KF. If I were him I wouldn't take just any power 5 job. He has an opportunity to reach that Fred Hoiberg stratosphere where you can do no wrong. As Spiderico stated, unless OSU comes calling or the Big 12 dissolves just stay put. Iowa isn't this juggernaut that you can't eventually figure out. You can get to bowl games and bring in the type of kids that you want to bring in your program. Raising your family in Ames and being adored by ISU fans ain't a bad life.
