Bombshell Alford Article by Harty

I'm very torn on what I just read. Not sure I agree or quite understand why he wrote this now?

Trust me I understand the hate for Alford, but people OPEN YOUR EYES this goes DEEPER than Alford. Shame on the University of Iowa.

Did you not read it?

I think it is possible University officials communicated to Harty that the young lady would need to meet with police/file a report for them to be able to move forward. I'm not exactly sure what you expect University officials (which officials anyway?) to do with a phone call from a reporter, in which he says his brother told him his daughter witnessed Pierce enter her dorm room and wouldn't leave until she screamed. What exactly do you think was covered up here? A cover-up would be if she wanted to go on record with this and the university tried to convince her not to. She didn't want to move forward with it, which is understandable.

For me, the more disturbing aspect is that Alford was presented with this piece of information and STILL acted the way he did. A member of the women's team accuses his player of sexual assault. Anyone in a leadership position would understand to tread lightly there....give a couple vague quotes about having to let the process play out, concerned with the welfare of the young people involved, whatever...

But his offensive quotes (indirectly calling the victim a liar) were even AFTER concern about Pierce's behavior with another young woman in a separate incident were brought to his attention.

I am more disturbed by Alford's judgement and ethics then ever.

Wow people just can't let stuff go and btw Lick did worse to Iowa BB than Alford did and it is not even close.

No he didn't and if you can't understand that from that article then you are clueless.

FU everyone who was involved with Iowa basketball when Alford was there that knew of this. They are all dead to me, what a joke. The whole situation is no different than another Big Ten University covering up what they knew, the difference, it wasn't children, so that makes it okay.

Should the NCAA get involved here?

It is sickening that something like this took place and nothing was done. What is worse is Alford knew of his predatory nature prior to him coming to Iowa and then had the nuts to say he was a good kid. Lansing can go to hell as well.

It makes you wonder how much of this goes on at other schools.

This is as much of an indictment on the entire University as it is Steve Alford and the coaching staff

Yes, and just look at all the crap the football players have been doing all this time, the University of Iowa is no better than PSU on how they let the actions of their sports figures and players going essentially unpunished unless law enforcement or litigation is finally involved.

It's less about why nothing was done in Harty's case, and more about the way the university defended Pierce throughout the whole ordeal we all know about (which occurred AFTER the incident with his niece). There is absolutely no way Alford, and I'm sure several others, weren't aware of the pattern developing before Pierce was arrested. I've heard stories of having Pierce tailed on the weekends to help ensure he stayed out of trouble, because he was known to troll around in his car for the drunkest girl he could find on the sidewalk.

The people in position to do the right thing knew what Pierce was capable of long before he got caught. They simply chose not to.

I sound like Alford now, really? Amazing.. So the University only had SOME culpability..

So Alford is judge, jury and executioner.. If true, Shame on the University..

You're right. Shame on the University. I have no problem with that. What I have a problem with is trying to say that because the University had culpability, Alford had none. That's what he's trying to sell to UCLA and it is BS.

Your next post on this site should be in this thread admitting you were only joking. If you were serious, you need to recalibrate your moral compass.

Where did I state that Alford had none. I didn't I said this issue is deeper that just Alford.

First off, Alford and PP are major DB's but Harty should have gone to the director of student housing not the fricking athletic department. And not that PP clearly isn't a predator but he didn't commit a crime unless he forced himself into her room. I am glad nothing happened to her but other than banning him from the dorm I don't know what would have been done.

Someone should ask Bowslby about this too since he was the AD.

Read the Bryce Miller article to get some info on Bowlsby.

The prosecuting attorney said that Bowlsby was great through the whole process. Very cooperative. He worked hard to adapt to the court rulings (no-contact order) etc... Bowlsby received a lot of praise for his efforts.

Amazing stuff. Any particular reason this is all being brought up now and not last year when Alford was at New Mexico. Just wondering about the timing of this coming out right after he takes the UCLA job. Also is this the Frank Harty (Pat's brother) that went to Dowling.

Obviously nothing given what happened after the crime.
