Big, PAC, ACC Alliance???

No, he didn't hear rumors. A rumor is something like "Hey, my buddy is senior at GM and he told me they are trying to launch a new electric Silverado that they are jointly building with Tesla." It has a source, perhaps several people removed. It may or not prove true, but there is usually a source with at least a plausible air of credibility.

What Wannstedt heard at the FOX meetings was mere speculation. Conference moves pretty much always come out of the blue. There is talking head speculation ahead of time, but the conferences and affected schools are tighter lipped than British Intelligence in 1943. Recall, if you will, a few weeks ago when the Texas-OU thing was announced. There were no rumors. It just happened. Bam. Recall Rutgers and Maryland joining the B1G. Same deal.

There is no trust in these deals. The circle who knows is small. You don't want word to leak and then state politburos getting involved and shit, so you have to just move.
Yup yup yup. Thanks for pointing out the difference. Speculation should not be considered a rumor. Yet that's exactly what Wannstedt is trying to convey. He doesn't have anything it's just water cooler talk amongst those he works with. Kinda like what we do when we guess at things on here...

What's really exciting about this for me, is that I don't see the CryHawk game being around after 2025.

If this alliance thing takes off, I could see us buying ourselves out of it before that.

Not if ISU joins the BIG 10, he might just stay longer than planned.
If the clowns joined the B1G (which ain't gonna happen), Matt Dumbbell would have a lifetime appointment like Fat Titsgerald does in Chicago.

Lames fans love that douche canoe. He could go o-fer on the year and those mental defectives would give him an extension.

I read that the Big10 would never give up the right to play FCS teams, so, sorry Fry.

Sorry all ya want, if the B1G follows through with the alliance deal, we'll be playing OOC games against P12/ACC opponents, which doesn't leave room for cupcakes, even if you go to 8 conference games. ISU isn't going to take the place of a cupcake. Zero chance they let our OOC schedule go something like, USC, ISU, Notre Dame, North Texas.

There have to be at least 2 games against the Upper Middle Poughkeepsie State Welding College type schools in there as well.

When you look at the standings from 10 years ago, no one gives a shit if Purdue got to 7-6 by going 4-0 against cupcakes, 2-6 in conference and then winning the Detroit Bowl against Ball State. All they see is 7-6. A winning season.

No clue how Mangino is still alive. That guy has looked like he was about to explode for 25 years.

If I were him I'd call TLC about getting a show. The only problem would be trying to decide between, "Pancakes Sent Me To The ER," and "I Ate 18 Kids And Counting" as titles.

The Mat Campbell to Michigan rumors will really start blowing up if ISU is left out.

That issue likely won't be resolved when the phone starts ringing if Harbaugh doesn't put up a monster year this year. And with that in the air (or resolved with a resounding "Sorry Clowns, yer out") Campbell is not going to turn down Michigan if they call. No way. They will be able to offer way more money.

Look, I hate Michigan, but there is something magical about the Big House. You cannot fly out of Ames at 7 AM and go for a tour of Ann Arbor that same afternoon and not be tempted. And then the money. Michigan will offer a blank check. The guy will get an offer probably around $8 million. There is some combination of loyalty, facilities improvements and money that can sway a guy like Fitz to stay away from Michigan, but if you're not an alum of the school you coach and sitting on a really long history, the statements about "loyalty" from 5 or 6 years ago mean F all.

Michigan might be the best job in all of college football. They're not gonna give you forever, but you aren't gonna get thrown on your ass if you have a losing record the first two years (which Campbell wouldn't). And even if you get run, it's a high enough tier job that you're still totally marketable for another P5 (P4) level job if you want one (RichRod). It's a job that takes a helluva combination of factors for someone to turn down.

Or Ryan Day decides to take an NFL gig. Better yet, Brian Kelly wants to challenge himself and leaves Notre Dame. He has pretty much maxed out at ND.

OSU, Michigan and Notre Dame are the jobs ISU fans need to keep their eye on.

Yeah, OSU is a possibility as well, but I can't see Day getting an NFL call. The guy isn't that good of a coach.

I think it could go the other way to. Over time, the SEC could be in their little bubble that they created while 3/4 of the country could be interested in "The Alliance" match-ups or Rose Bowl.

People may be willing to let the SEC doing their own thang with players that wouldn't even be able to qualify for school at a real university or college as a student-athlete. The SEC is a crap excuse for college athletics. It's merely a farm system now for football.
Spot on. I never watch SEC football and couldn't give two shits about that conference, adding Texas and Oklahoma doesn't change anything for me. If I wanted to watch minor league NFL I would have watched XFL when it was on.

You really, really missed the joke there, Fry. Read your post and my post again. Then laugh.

Watch ISU go 3-2 over that period and claim they're the superior program on the way out...

And it isn't like Texas has been tearing it up on a national level the past decade. They've been in a down trend similar to Michigan. They are the proverbial team that always seems to get talked up every season and ranked at the beginning to only fail to meet expectations. See Penn St., Nebraska and sadly Michigan.

Yea I think he's a great college coach. Been impressed with him the way he carries himself. But, NFL would be such an unknown. They are such different gigs. I can't think of another sport where the coaching is so different between the college sport and pros, at least as far as predicting the success of a coach at the professional level.

Doesn't mnatter how goodc you are, it matters how much money you make. Last year Texas's athletic revenue was $223 million. It's by far and away the most valuable college sports brand. Alabama was 7th in total revenue and Clemson wasn't even in the top 20. This decision was purely money because the SEC added two teams that are in the top 5 of all revenue producers. And after all this hype you can bank on Texas and Oklahoma making way more than in the past.

It's a little like nebraska. They've been total dogshit for most of a decade and getting worse, but those genetically defective fans keep buying tickets and hoodies and Runzas and making donations.

But it has a key difference from Nebraska in that it has the potential to come roaring back if they land the right coach.
