Hawkeye fans tearing into each other over a game announcer. What did you accomplish in this life? Well I'll tell you....there was this one time where I dominated this guy on a message board because he disagreed with me over One of them lady announcers. Yay.

It went down hill when someone brought sexism into it.
I'm just glad the game is televised, Joe Buck could be calling the game for all I care.
Yeah, my bad. I'll probably do it again when it comes up next time, though. I do think much of the criticism is too harsh (just my opinion, feel free to disagree).

It serves no purpose, you are not going to get someone to suddenly like listening to Beth Mowins just because you made them aware that they might be sexist.

This day and age, almost everyone at some point is racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-Christian, Xenophobi, etc. at one point as we might say something we think is innocent but isn't. It's the victim-hood culture we now live in that creates an environment in which someone will always take offense.

I think there is a mixed bag here.
I don't think she's terrible. She's average. A few good insights. A few mistakes.
Her voice is annoying to me.
People who say a guy is sexist because they don't care for her voice or ability need to think rather than hit the PC# talking point.
I do think she has this gig is because she is a woman and is better than many of the announcers on ESPNU.
Since it is incumbent to number how many daughters a guy has after commenting....I have three beautiful, smart, sassy daughters.
I've told them, just like I have my sons, that life isn't fair, most people are not going to give a rip who you are unless you can do something beneficial for them, and that's not how you are to relate to people.
I also have one wife, one mother, two grandmothers, five sister-in-laws, and nine aunts.
So I can say Beth Mowins is average with a chalkboard voice but is better than most ESPNU announcers.

Well, as the father of TWO daughters, which both are bravely serving this wonderful country, I say this:
Beth Mowins sucks, she makes errors all the time. If either of my daughters had public jobs and were continually making as many errors as she does I would sit them down and ask them if this is really the career they want? Additionally, my oldest daughter watches Hawkeye football all the time and thinks she sucks.
EsecPN finally started scheduling her for games in the south (ACC/SEC) last year and the fans down here said the same thing us B1G fans have been saying for years, She SUCKS.
It is not the fact that she is a woman, it's the fact that she is NOT good at her job.
Compare her to Jessica Mendoza and you will see a true difference in talent and ability.
Making this about Female vs Male is a cop out. It is talent vs no talent. . . .

You're probably right. This has devolved into a discussion of her "doability" and people making off-color comments. I guess I was hoping that someone saying, "Hey guys, let's just think about why we are coming to these conclusions?" would have a payoff. Perhaps not convincing someone to like Beth Mowins (whom industry experts seem to look upon pretty favorably), but perhaps convincing them to not start a thread talking about how much she sucks if you are not starting threads to talk about the suckitude of the numerous subpar male play-by-play announcers Iowa will certainly encounter throughout the year.
I guess it will be a game-time decision when the next similar thread comes up. This go around has been a bit disheartening.
