In the end, you may be right or you may be wrong. Fact is neither one of you know. If you are wrong, you look like an ignorant ass. If you are right, there is nothing you can do about it.

The situation is somewhere between no big deal and a huge over reaction to millions up to 10x or more than the worst flu. The truth will likely be in between.

We do know in some areas, that hospitals are overwhelmed, including NYC. Sounds like Louisiana is quietly not doing very well. We know that Seattle is getting a hospital ship. We can see what is going on in Italy. We saw China where who knows what is really going on.

Why is the economy being smashed by maybe an overreaction? Again, it's something from no big deal or honest mistake, to something sinister. Either way we can't stop it individuallly.

I would expect many countries to take precautions. If you've ever been to a developing nation or a large impoverished city, you will understand the potential devastation and how fast it will go.....

Italy is a modern country. Look what is occurring. Under regular flu, hospitals don't get overrun. Locally we had a 17 yo die in early Jan from the regular flu that was a healthy kid prior.

On here we range from those in the over reaction camp to those who are taking it seriously. Discussion on this is healthy as long as grace is shown.

It would be interesting to know everyone's real opinion about what is going on, why it is going on, what happened, and so on, in a respectful manner.

The numbers are growing like crazy. A few countries are ahead of us in the timeline. Most are behind. The countries ahead of us are still getting worse. By doing nothing, the only thing that will stop it is everyone getting it. Which means 1% of the population dies. Like I've been saying the whole time in here, our only hope of this being less severe than people are thinking is if way more people have been infected than they are guessing. With more and more numbers coming out on tests coming back negative, it's giving me doubt that that will be the case.

Now I'm hearing that if you get laid off from your job because of the virus, that the government will pay you exactly what you were making at your job for four months.

Sign Me Up!!

That's the problem. The vast majority of people don't do their own research and simply trust whatever they're told. That's your choice. I choose a different path in life. Stay in your safety bubble if it makes life easier for you. Good night.

I'm sorry. I didn't know that you had sequenced the virus in your basement laboratory. Did your extensive research reveal to you that Ginger root would kill it?

Fine? About the virus, we'll see. Goldman yesterday forecast a 9% gdp reduction 1st quarter and 24% 2nd. Not likely that low

If humans live on so will economies. As long as USA doesn't suffer disproportionate death tolls of infection periods to the rest of the world our economy won't lose much if any ground.

Humans = Consumers
Consumers+Free trade = strong economy.

Sure we might lose some amount of economical dominance over the world, but I believe it makes us worse people if our concerns are related to dominating the globe financially. When it happens naturally it is acceptable, when it is manufactured through plotting and maneuvering well then it is something totally different.

Iran has close to 22,000 cases of the virus, and of course they are saying the United States created this virus. Last time I heard it came from China.

Can we honestly say that we have zero doubts that a world pandemic could have been started by "deep state" or some shadowy cabal or secret society?

I think it is unlikely, but the government has never earned implicit trust. The US Government will need to start preparing it's defense case against such accusations. Mind you that the defense will be regardless of whether we did it or not.

Of course it will go on in a bad case scenario. But there will be winners and losers. The losers are likely to be the more vulnerable, which likely means about everyone on this board like it or not.

Humans are consumers of course. The change will be less income for non essentials. Free Trade = Strong Economy as a stand-alone statement is a rather naive statement.

You are likely very anti socialist (which doesn't mean I'm pro). Are you going to send back your Trump Dollar Check? Why? It is a form of socialism. You are participating in socialism everytime you drive on a paved road as your dollars don't come close to maintaining and upkeep.

A better statement would be: Consumers with ample supply of money plus a balanced equitable trade situation or one to my advantage = Strong Economy for those with ample supply of money and/or have an advantage over competition.

Jeff Bezos thx you for your support. ;)

I think we all have to hope it isn't something that diabolic, but holy smokes Batman, this is crazy. I'm believing that it is how the Govt says it is. But, who really knows.

We have our moments.... Gulf of Tonkin. Arguing over what we knew about Pearl Harbor. The Germans easily could have wiped out Dunkirk early. Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. Extensive civilian casualties in WW2. Who shot the shot heard around the world?

Did China loose this as they were losing control? Was the virus a part of what the US DID send in bioweapon Tech about 6 years ago?

I do know that Hungarian insurgents brutally murdered the wives and kids of Soviet officers that triggered the crackdown in 56. Never read that in textbooks.

I can assure you that many high profile people did in fact know what was coming for the US markets.

The truth is rarely black and white. I can't honestly say that something akin to the deep state wasn't involved. My overseas travels though gives me pause to think.... Wha?

Regardless we are likely living history akin or greater than 911 or the Great Depression. I do have concerns that regardless there are elements that will take things to another level to fight whoever/whatever/ifever and cause further chaos.

Then again, maybe a 30 percent reduction in GDP followed by a 22 percent gain will happen and most of us will go on within 85% of what were were doing within a year or two.

I am anti socialism and anti big federal government. I won't return a check distributed from the government back to the government. That is like finding a dollar in the trash and then throwing it back in lol.

Instead what I will do with it is donate it to someone needy that I encounter in my community.

Mark my words government stimulus is more dangerous to the American poor and middle class than any "draconian shutdowns". You can book a historic climb of inflation over the next 20 years. Yet there is no hesitation in Washington. Even by the "conservatives".

I guess it is just time for me to accept that public opinion has changed to sucking up government handouts that they can't afford and have zero business providing. In 2 generations time we will have stripped the nation of it's considerable wealth built over 2 centuries. My average brain can't even comprehend what it looks like when the floor falls out from underneath this movement. Always hoping that I'm wrong.

You might have missed my post on the Economic thread. In the last recession, I documented the long term change in wealth that largely came through economic policy.

I would like to encourage those of you who are healthy and not high risk to donate blood. It is a huge problem that is personally impacted my own family.

Reynolds said this would go into effect at 10 p.m. Sunday night."
