Any chance we don't suck?

I am still predicting a 10+ point win in the opener against NIU. I only really predict one game at a time. Taking a stab at the record I will do and I say 6-6 or 7-5.

I liked what I saw in the videos posted yesterday from the open practice. It looks like the passing game can get to the point of high percentage throws with a good opportunity for lots of YAC.

If the Dline comes around then the safeties dont have to take some odd steps and maybe weird angles because the opposing QB has 6 seconds to scan the field.

Passing game, Dline and Safety play I think will be much better.

I got to meet Coach Fry coming out of Hillcrest when I lived there and I have every faith they will do better. If I remember right they upset MI with a field goal that year. Coach Ferentz knows changes need to be in place this year. It's not a mystery and he's a very smart guy. Time management and everything will be better. Qb is the only question I have. It isn't about coolaide, it's about believing in your team and coaches.

If we win all 4 non-conference games I think we win 7 maybe 8 with an upset over somebody. If we go 3-1 or worse 2-2 with this schedule we are doomed to a no bowl season yet again. I do think we will do better than our 4 win output of a year ago. Can someone tell me where we think we are getting Big 10 wins this year? Purdue....maybe....MSU at home....maybe....Minnesota away....maybe. We will be underdogs in almost every game. NW, Mich, Neb, OSU absolutely NO chance of winning.

I don't think we beat Bucky this year either so again where are the wins going to come from?

If the team picks the wrong horse at QB, can't find a pass rush, doesn't have any real wide receivers; it won't have many wins. Nor should it , I guess. I hope we get lucky with all three.

Detroit here we come!!!!

Hmmm...

^ are you sure you want to say no chance of winning.. Remember a few years ago when nebraska gained about 4 times as much yardage as ISU but they had 8 turnovers. ISU won that game and if they played 100 times that year i bet Nebby wins 99 but that was the 1 time ISU had the weird stuff going their way.

We absolutely CAN beat NIU, Miss ST, ISU, W Mich, Minny, Purdue, MSU, and Wisky. There are 8 wins in that list. THe hawks played poorly against purdue last year with little running game. Just like when JVB got his first road win we can win this year at purdue. MSU and Wisky at home.

NW and Mich at home are two we can win, Nebby isnt that great but game at NEbby and OSU is a 1 out of 100 unless they have a lot of injuries.

There will be some bad bounces, maybe some injuries so I dont see 8 wins but 6 or 7 and a bowl.

There is not a game on the schedule outside of OSU that we could not win if we play good football. I am not saying we will win them all but simply we have a much better opportunity to compete this season with the personnel and emerging playmakers we can put out on the field. There will be some growing pains for sure but my prediction is by the end of the season the fan base will feel much better about the direction of the program and the talent level. We will be poised for a big year in 2014.

I think the very first game is huge given the quality of the opponent and the taste of last season in everyone's mouth. This is a statement game. I plan on bringing my A-game as a fan to Kinnick in support of this program and the first step on an upward ride again.

You cannot always W-L a schedule because you cannot take into account unknown factors across the season like injuries, pressure and dissention. Take two of our opponents NW and Wisky. What if Colter or Mark is injured before our game? Are they as good without either or both? I do not think so. Wisky has a brand new staff and a huge senior class. What if things are rocky early for them. Does dissention in the senior class set in because they quit buying into the new staff? Again not saying this will happen but my point is you do not know what the situations will be across the entire season.

I like what we have this year and the mix of experience and young talent.

I do think we can beat Wisconsin. They are easily the most overrated team going into this season. How does a team, which lost 6 games last season, lose arguably their best player in school history and their head coach and then have a great year the following season? Wisconsin is primed to take a significant step back this season, and we catch them in Kinnick.

It's gotten worse over the last week or so. The whole business with Pierschbacher has gotten me wound up with cynicism, not specifically with Iowa football, but with Iowa fans. Every fan base and message board has its fair share of idiots. CF is just a nice change of pace that kind of serves as a break from this site's particular brand of stupidity for me. I'll settle down eventually.

Tork, it definitely gets monotonous hearing the same negative crap over and over, but you have to realize it's the same small handful of posters that consistently post that stuff. It's easy to get cynical, but it's certainly not the majority of the Iowa fanbase doing this... it's just a small group of posters that think they know more than everybody else, and think everybody that disagrees with them are idiots and "Koolaid drinkers". Sure, they're PART of the Iowa fanbase, but I believe it's a very, very small part.

I know, but on a site like this, the negative crap sometimes makes up the majority of what's posted. The whole deal with Pierschbacher was an example of that, with seemingly everybody suffering from the worst-ever documented case of butthurt.

The negativity does make up a majority. Look at any site on the internet. All the comments are inbred morons talking about how everything sucks, etc. I try to avoid Hawkeye message boards to avoid the hate, but its also the best way to keep up on Hawkeye news, so I get sucked back in.

The best thing to do is take breaks. And never read the board after a loss.

That's what I use CF for. Also, "never" reading the boards after a loss can cause you to miss out. I believe it was after the Purdue or Indiana game last year that we had an absolute blast around here with a Soundoff "game thread". That might have been the most fun I've ever had on this site, even more fun than the Coker Thread.

I will wait and see how we look week one and make my judgements from there. I knew right away against NIU last season it was going to be painful, and the ISU loss sealed the deal for me. I religiously stuck it out the rest of the season hoping for signs of improvement but it just never came.

For the record, I think we might just win 7-8 games if our qb play is at least average this season.

Who cares about those stupid negative troll fans. Iowa gonna have a good year. The media is really buzzing about Iowa.

So we're not going to be any good because the media isn't buzzing about the Hawkeyes? I hope that's not our measuring stick... I can't remember the media EVER buzzing about the Hawks.

Maybe they'll be buzzing about the "surprising" Iowa Hawkeyes!

2010. Big time.

The media is usually a step behind. The national pundits act like their experts but they seldom know the Hawkeyes as well as we, the fans know Iowa. I depend on what I know from the players history, their interviews and vibe they project.

Right now in my opinion, the coaches and the players were very embarrassed by last year and since then they have used that as a lighting rod to focus their efforts. As soon as last year was over the coaches were on just about every venue they could find to talk about the program. The public has been given more access than they have had in previous years with two spring events. I don't expect Iowa to make a trip to Indy but I think they can surprise some people. A lot depends on how quickly the come out of the gate. This team doesn't have the talent or experience to go into October 2-2 and expect success the rest of the year.
