AJ Derby leaves Iowa

That would be odd as KF was quoted as saying AJ approached him on the subject.

This quote was shortly after the announced move.

This is not true. Derby got a call on a Tuesday morning asking him to come to the office to meet with the coaches. During said meeting, they approached him about changing positions and left the decision up to him. He ultimately decided to comply with the move.

wanted to play QB...and it ain't gonna happen...so he cries...and takes his ball and goes home...typical of his generation...it's all about "me" ..and a "team 1st" mentality simply does not exist...and the sad part is, this comes from a kid of a former Hawkeye, and his daddy let him do it..........sad...sad...sad....

p.s. apparently he doesn't understand the whole concept of "once a hawk, always a hawk"...
Your an idiot. Why would you want to regress when you can progress?

Good thing we didn't use him in a wildcat package like everyone in the world suggested.... It's not like it works and the NFL doesn't use it, nor did okalohomas wildcat package look good. Kid should've committed to flordia which is sad.

He wasn't the answer at QB, but our coaches failure to see his talents as a goaline package/wildcat QB zone read is sad. He could've run a 8 play playbook til his senior year as a part time QB and been happy. It's sad that 80% of other coaches would've loved to have this package and used it, 8 year olds are crying for this package to be used. Wish him well and nothing but the best.

How can you blame the kid for leaving? He wanted to be a QB and it wasn't going to happen at Iowa. I wish the kid luck.

+1 ,but would have liked to have seem him run the ball once while he was at ia. Good luck to him. I think it also points the the fact that Ruddock will be special at quarterback.

Sure seems like sour apples on derbys part.. just not a team player and he knew he would not play qb and insread of helping the team he is leaving it.

He could go the McNutt route and try to be a star where he is needed or he can leave. Oh well.

STAY THE COURSE.

Or else...

It's hard to be supportive right now. Is KF totally to blame? Partly? regardless...I find the football program very tiresome tight now. We need new energy and new optimism. I will feel sorry for Parker if he is chosen as the DC, as he just will not do it and by no fault of his own the fans may turn against him.

Some posters brought up a good point. How many times could we have used derby in 3rd or 4th down short yardage.

I wish him luck. Maybe some qb talent evaluator or camp director said he has the qb skills to make it. especially in another spread type system.

I do wish KF and the coaches would get more players in and run some pro style to wildcat special talent type formations.

I would have loved to see McNutt run a couple spreads or wildcats.

How many think Mcnutt could have stretched for a yard when we needed it?

I honestly never thought that Derby could ever play Div1 QB..The most surprising thing about him leaving is his Dad playing here and his brother here. You would think Derby was smart enough to trust the coaches to find him a position he could excell in and have a chance at the pros in. I guess he really isn't that smart.

This is disturbing on so many levels I don't even know where to begin. Here is my problem, I get that kids leave school, but we have good players and starters leaving, that is a big problem. This is just amazing.
