I agree. I wouldn't want to be scrambling 10 min after KO, then get the tickets then hope that they will actually be able to be scanned when at the gate & not get scammed.

Really, are there still scalpers around at games or has that profession fallen by the wayside? It seems the last game I went to I really didn't see any unless I was just at the wrong place.

Where I park and walk up on Melrose Ct there is always the same guy standing there buying up tickets and he has maybe 20 plus tickets in his hand. And he has others like him all around the stadium. If they are buying for $20 from someone with an extra ticket will sell it for even $20 bucks right before game time to get their money back.

I have season tix (two seats with the $200 "donation" tacked on to each).

I have a select 3-4 hobbies in my life. Tail-gating, Iowa games, etc is one of them.

So, yes, I'll spend $100 per ticket per game to see either pedigree or dogs.

Depends on your perspective in life. You only get to see a team like PSU in person a few times if that.

$95 isn't too much money for a nationally televised prime time game against a top 5 opponent, IMO. The problem is everything else. Bleacher seating, bathroom lines, traffic, commercial breaks, no cell service, etc. Seems like every time I go to Kinnick I get sat next to an obese couple whose fat butts take up 4 seats. I like to stand a lot at games and as a result I get yelled at by old people

With technology the way it is, I find the games are usually a lot more entertaining from my man cave. Got my food and beer right there, my bathroom has no line, old people aren't yelling at me to sit down or watch my mouth, other games are on my other tvs, there is no burrito lift, and my cell phone actually works.

I still go to ~3 games a year, and have a great time, but going to anymore than that just wears me out.

Then again, 15.8 people in one car is pretty standard for LA...

NFL games suck. Lifeless & boring. I would not spend $6.00 to see a pro football game anymore.
College football tickets are over priced but so are most other forms of entertainment these days.
70 year old washed up singers are still getting people to spend $65-$100.00 a ticket to come to their casino concerts and county fairs.

As far as buying tickets late outside the stadium? One must go there being ok not going to the game if tickets are not cheap enough. You can always hang out at the stadium and watch the game on t.v. (always people watching games from their tail gate spots that are happy to have another viewer hanging around). Sometime you get lucky and find some older season ticket holder that will sell for face value or less. I have spent as little as $10.00 on a ticket. (1999 Iowa-vs. Nebraska game) Sat at mid-field, top row, just under the press box. I have also went to games that I could not find a reasonable ticket, (Wisconsin and Michigan) so I watched on t.v.

Sounds like lots of tickets still left. I would say at this point getting a ticket game day would be pretty easy. It is only tough when it is a sellout or close to a sellout.

Sounds like you are getting old. Do you nap at halftime when watching on tv?

Not only would but I did. Lucky we don't have to drive hours to get there and can get home same night. Just hoping we hang with them so it's a good game. Would be a brutal hot game if it were an 11am or 2:30 game. Those games are the worst. Will take any kind of weather over the sunny hot humid stuff.

Exactly. I also have season tickets but I don't go to all of them. I'll usually sell a few games a year to my friends or family at face value (they're good seats about 20 rows up behind the Iowa bench) but I absolutely go to the marquee games. It's a big expense to go with parking, kenneling the dogs, beer (which is one of my other passions, no Busch Light for me), food, etc. but worth it to me. I don't mind watching Wyoming or N. Texas at home but I'm going to be there for the big games.

Meh....anymore viewing at home > than going to the game

Just like the kids nowadays. They'd rather stay indoors glued to some form of electronics. Suggesting they go outside and play or do something is greeted with a blank stare like you just suggested they do their homework or clean their bathroom.

Well, listening to KXNO right now talking about this. Seems pretty clear that it's a combination of the price per ticket, marketing and/or in stadium game experience. The make a good point about having more replays, better wifi, and showing highlights of other games during breaks. Everyone knows that Iowa marketing is absolute crap. I hope the north endzone remodel has plans to improve all these things...

When is the last time those people have been to a game?

I was leading the charge 4-5 years ago about how the gameday experience had tailed off at Kinnick. From the crack down on tailgating, to the music and atmosphere at the game.

The problem is that was 4-5 years ago. They have made major improvements inside Kinnick for the games. The music is much better, they show replays on the video boards now (even of the controversially official reviews). They have backed off the tailgating Nazi stuff as well. It is much better than it was 4-5 years ago and those who haven't been in a couple years need to give it another shot, it is better now.

Is it true that the U has offered students half off the remaining tickets?

No, I watch the 12 other games on tv at the same time. It generally beats listening to marching bands and advertisements over the PA for 20 minutes. Plus, alcohol is legal in my basement

LOVE the marching band!!

What I would do if I were in the AD would be get rid of parking lot on west side of Kinnick and start building state of art addition to stadium with restaurant / bars (brewers even) / area for outdoor food court, area for smokers, etc. Portion could remain open during non-season if profitable. I am sure they won't do something like that but I bet alcohol sales come back. Of course it will be $10 a beer.

When I get older maybe I will be a couch fan but for now I will keep going. I understand for those where the cost is the issue. You can't afford what you can't afford. I get that and I get it if someone has to drive 4 or 5 hours to get there, but for myself I only have to drive 25 minutes either way and I am lucky right now to be able to afford it. Too many great great memories of going to Kinnick as a kid. Always takes me back and I was growing up at the time Fry came. My first game was during the last season of Commings in 78. Also remember all the games I couldn't go to as a kid that I listened to on good old a.m. radio.
