2019 Tyreke Locure

No. I'm sure he's aware of him and perhaps been in touch but nothing along those lines of a promise. He's just too far down his list however long of one it is. Until Fran is out of the running for the others he's after he's not going to come to Locure is what it's shaping up to be. Question is how long are we left hanging on the line for the others before the rug gets pulled out and it's too late to come back to Locure or anyone else

Perhaps Fran has focused in on Carton and his other offers too much during the season? Because of this then he doesn't have time to expand his search since he already likes the guys he has offers out to and he's trying desperately to salvage anything he can from this season to build for the future. My hope with this though process being that post-season he will step back and objectively re-evaluate where he is with everyone and how everyone has played after the season concludes? Then he'll send an offer Locure's way as Carton won't have budged and Locure has looked solid. Although the other thing I'm keeping in my mind is that Carton threw down an Oop in the game against Wieskamp and has made a habit of it in the past. That's not a typical play you draw up for a PG. He could be a strong shooting guard, though his defense would need work. Allowing 54 points would allow him to fit in a bit too well for my liking on the current roster.........

Yeah the unforeseen being will anyone else end up offering Locure and would he take it if so. I think Fran feels pretty good about where he sits with Carton. Weather he should or not is up for debate but I think he's his #1 target for now and is trying to use his kid and Wieskamp to help recruit him (he had Patrick with him when he watched them both play). If that's not enough firepower to get him time will tell.

Just a lil tidbit for ya:

The career record for steals in 4A Iowa is 246 held by Hurl Beechum who also played for North in the late '80s/early '90s.
Tyreke Locure nearing the end of his junior season is at 226 steals.

Marcus Paige had 210, Jeff Horner had 232, and Ryan Bowen had 223.

Beechum was a pretty good HS QB too if I remember right. Telling me that stat blows my mind. Obviously he was a heck of a bball player but when you think of all the players in Iowa that he'd have that record... Not a sports jeapordy answer I'd have gotten that's for sure.

Creating shots. Dishing. Excellent ball handling. Those are the most important qualis for PG, IMO. I'm sure Pete Maravich wasn't a PG in college (too much height to be a PG in those days, I suspect) but he'd make an excellent PG, IMO. Even though you think I think scoring isn't all that. Is Maravich too old a reference? Is Magic Johnson more your expectation of my opinion, scoring-wise? B.J. Armstrong?

The Pistol was the best ball-handler, and passer, of all-time (best college player of all-time by a mile),so it would make sense to have the ball in Pete's hands as much as possible. I must've watched Pistol: The Birth Of A Legend 1000 times growing up.

Locure had 26 points, 9 assists, 8 boards, and 8 steals tonight versus Urbandale. He's now 7 steals away from tying the 4A career steals record.

Dude is most overlooked all time best player I can think of. He's everything you mentioned and more. Played without a 3 pt shot and his ridiculous scoring marks would have been even crazier if he'd have had that. I am way too young to have seen him play really I'm not 40 yet. But I've read up and seen a lot of highlights on him.

Only 26? (kidding) Dude must be slacking on that to help showcase his overall floor game more it looks like. It'd be smart of him to do as putting up 30 plus against everyone hasn't seemed to raise his stock much. He's in good shape though if he's patient.

I think his assists numbers might go down next year slightly since they lose a couple decent senior starters. It's pretty much a foregone conclusion he'll finish 2nd in career assists in 4A; it's gonna be pretty tough catching Jeff Horner in that category. He had 760 assists. Maybe he'll set his sights on the 4A career scoring record next year???

Will he be in striking distance of Wieskamp? Boy oh boy that'd be impressive as all get out. Wieskamp has some more games yet to go to pad what he's already done.
This summer will be huge for Locure I think things will sort itself out for him prior to him dribbling a ball for North next Nov. No way once he balls out in the summer that he'll continue to be ignored.

Currently, Wieskamp has 2,264 and Locure has 1,482. If everything stopped right now and based on 24 games next year, Locure would have to average 32.58 pts a game. Definitely a possibility, but he's gonna have to improve his 3pt accuracy to get it done. The first half of this season, he was lights out beyond the arc, but he's tailed off recently.

I didn't realize Horner led 4A in points and assists. That's impressive.

It's ridiculous actually. There's a huge gap between 1st & 2nd in assists. The guy in 2nd right now is Kaylon Williams, Cedar Rapids, Kennedy @ 508 assists. Locure currently has 485.

Assists are such a dicey, subjective stat with HS coaches being the ones who report. Some are pretty liberal in awarding an assist, some go by the strict definition. I have seen some reported assist numbers that are definitely questionable.

No idea if that applies to Horner, perhaps someone with personal knowledge can comment. That gap between 1st and 2nd definitely jumps out, though.

I was wondering about that with steals too. Wasn't the leader in steals from North too?

Well there ya go. Considering what he's done this year 33 pts a game isn't impossible for him to do next yr. Won't be easy as he'll be as targeted as can be and game planned against. But he's already been seeing a lot of that. I wonder if his accuracy from 3 is due to shot selection at times too. That was my thing in HS I was a 5'8 125 pounder SG from a class A school. Teamates called me the White Reggie Miller cause I was a catch and shoot guy. To toot my own horn I could shoot pretty darn good when I had my feet set and was in rhythm. But if I was off balance, rushed or had to adjust my normal arch on the ball due to hand in my face it'd throw me off some (like most guys I'm sure) He's taking a lot tougher shots off the dribble then what I ever did. I did some pick and rolls but mostly I came off screens to get my shots.

I thought that too. A turnover in the general region of someone?
Yeah like if you were to knock the ball off someone and it goes out of bounds. Or even forcing a jump ball and it turns into a change of possession I've seen those listed as turnovers/steals. HS stats are being kept by HS managers usually doing what they are told by the coaches...
