Similar win in Les Jepsen area over Purdue

I don't what year it was, maybe late eighties, but the Hawks were 2-13, and upset Purdue/Keady at CHA. Does anyone remember what year this was? Keady was livid, but to his credit, he mostly laid into his team for losing to a hapless team. I am pretty sure it was during the time Les played for...

Did anyone hear the Reggie Evans Comparison

I don't know anything about Trevor's history (we all need to grow up) but after watching him against us, and then in the Michigan/Minny game before we played IL, he looked very strong. He had a monster dunk against MU that was clearly NBA style. Then again Brommer nailed a nice one left handed...

Cole discusses player transfers, why he stayed

Jarryd is a man amongst boys. He has been loyal, hard working, flexible, and devoted to his adopted state. to boot, he has developed a mid range jumper, and hits it as well as anyone on the team. And makes his free throws when they count. Nice arch JC. If Matt Gatens has senior year like...

    Brommer has to go!!!

great post jhhawk. Basabe is truly the first freshman post player who has stepped in the way he has and become a budding star. Most tall guys take a few years to mature, and once they do, they blossom. Brommer has some flashes of brilliance, and some real duds too. I like his great moments...

Any news on tonight's game, on or off?

I have checked the DI's web page and the IC paper. Right now the paper says the game might be cancelled, with a decision expected in the early afternoon. But no word yet that I can find. I hope the game is played. Hard to see when they could reschedule.

    Hawks Bury Hoosiers

I expected a good team effort today, and that is what we got. It is so great to see 1-6 instead of 0-7. Reminds me of a season a long time ago, I think when Les Jepsen was on the team, when we were 2-13, and beat Purdue in CHA. Gene Keady was livid. Over the long haul you have to be patient...

3 winnable games in a row

I agree, 2 for 3 would be awesome, a big confidence and momentum builder. But let's first defend the home court and get one in the W column. Reading Fran's interview with Jon, he says the difference from top to bottom in the league is less than you might think. These will be tough games for...

    McCaffery Talks Hoosiers, Hoops

Jon, Great interview. Since I don't seem to be able to stop watching the Hawks or caring about their success, getting this sort of insight is priceless. My only suggestion is to make sure your questions are intelligible to the reader. For example, the last one "Q. The fact Basabe has...

    2011 basketball signing class

agreed, I think with Cully healthy things would be better all around this year. For a true freshman in the BT I thought he showed some real signs of things to come last year, and getting him back will only make Cartwright play and perform better. Remember Cully has 3 full years to go.

Iowa vs NW this Wednesday - thoughts on the game?

I predict the Hawks will be the ones that kill NW with their/our outside shooting. Then all we have to do is make more than they do. We have capable shooters, and they are due!!

    TV for Drake game??

I am going to put in a plug for WHO's coverage on the radio. Dolph and Bobby call the Hawks better than anyone on the planet, and frankly I find that I quickly adapt to no video and just enjoy the game. Maybe everyone who is PO'd over lack of TV is listening, but they deserve a lot of credit...

iowa and clemson olaseni's top 2

it's easy to dismiss Cougill since he always had that slightly overweight, slow, can't jump white guy look. however, it takes talent to even get recruited from the lower half of the BT. He is also just a kid, could grow more, could learn new skills, could surprise. I'd like to see him get the...

Who has the best chance on the team right now to go pro?

not that I really care all that much, but it is worth remembering that a number of the young men under discussion here are young enough that they might grow a few inches before it's all over for them. I like our players right here in Iowa City, and frankly could care less if they have pro...

WOC 1420 streaming game on radio tonight?

In years past WOC has streamed the radio play by play from WHO for early season games. I checked their site and the game doesn't show, but that also happens often based on prior years. If anyone knows please advise. Thanks.

    Jeff Horner has been named...

I don't Jeff Horner personally, although we both played HSBB at Mason City, so take this for what it's worth-Jeff's father is a legendary coach, Jeff is a hard worker and smart kid, so he will not be as green as some equally talented player without the coaching history in the family. I think...

The Curse of The Little Lick

Get a life dude. This kid just likes to play the game, and it so happens that his father was the coach. To name a curse after him is sick, no other way to call it. If we have a curse it goes back to before this young man was even born.

    Roster as of 5/03/10

We do need help at PG, but May and Payne are just going to get better and better. Cully did a good job as a freshman in a tough league not taking crap from anyone, and burning them pretty often to boot. Frankly I think Gatens was in a funk all year long, and maybe he'll blossom if he feels...
