Iowa vs NW this Wednesday - thoughts on the game?

My preview/prediction will be up tonight or tomorrow, what are you thoughts on the game?

I think it's winnable for Iowa and I think the Hawkeyes do win it.

I think this game comes at a good time for Iowa. Tough stretch to start the conference season. This is definitely a winnable game. NW isn't what I expected them to be this year and hopefully Iowa can take advantage.

I think it's very winnable as well. I think it will depend on how Iowa defends the perimeter.

Bingo. For whatever reason Iowa has REALLY struggled recognizing shooters on the defensive end. It has cost them dearly as opponents essentially get open looks one after another. At this level, average guys can hit when they're not pressured.

From what I recall, NW doesn't have much inside presence. No Jajuan Johnson or Sullinger to defend/rebound. We certainly have a chance. I'm worried about their back door cuts as we look a little susceptible

Depends on what Iowa team shows up. I think this team will have their act together and get a nice win in front of the home crowd. I bet Fran game them a lesson the whole ride back from Lafayette.

I agree with HawkBA we need to open our eyes on defense. NW is tricky and with our youth a lack of concentration on the defensive end could cause us big problems if we give up easy layups and start fouling because were chasing.

I would call it winnable, but not very winnable.
NW has lost to the upper division teams, but won their first vs the lower division vs IU on Sunday nite. On paper, they are the best of the rest...ie..of IU,Iowa,PSU,Mich and NW. The bottom five. That said, beating them tomorrow nite is imperative for Iowa to have any chance to win the Bottom Five Division.

Iowa clearly has trouble covering the arc...so must guard Juice Thompson,Shurna,Marcotullio,Crawford closely out at the arc...they can shoot it.
Inside,Mirkivic had his best game vs IU(22pt) but is soft. Need to keep him down.
Cobb is a decent mid-range shooter and athlete so must keep him in check.

Shurna,Thompson and Crawford are their best players and any could go off for a big nite offensively, which could be hard for the Hawks to match.

Must win game,Hawks.

I was just doing a little research to try and find out who is going to have a career night shooting the 3... anybody have any guesses?

Shurna has a bum wheel.

This game is winnable but it's probably more likely that Iowa gets a lead and then folds in the second half per usual with 50% FT shooting.

I think this team needs a win badly for it's confidence. If we don't win tonight we could be looking at 0-6 right in the face. If we win we've actually got a shot to be 4-4 in the leage when we face Michigan State.

Superbowl, the Hawkeyes will be underdogs but if they play well they could win! With the exception of Purdue we have played to the level of the competition. Will Shurma play? He is much better offensive player than any of our posts.

I think we had better dominate them inside with the hopes of outscoring them, because like others posting here, I think they will kill us with their outside shooting.

Iowa shot a very respectable 75% in the Purdue game, so that's a start.

Also, I think Iowa has a realistic shot of being the 'best of the rest' and that includes NW. This game will go a long way in telling us where the Hawks stand. Except for Purdue, they haven't been blown out by anyone this season (worst loss is 13 to Xavier and that was a different team back then.)

ya at least we didn't get blown out against SDSU...that would have looked BAD...

I predict the Hawks will be the ones that kill NW with their/our outside shooting. Then all we have to do is make more than they do. We have capable shooters, and they are due!!

Winnable, if and only if Iowa can control Thompson, he gets to the rim and when he is forced to give it up on the drive he finds open people. Do not help off shooters to stop Thompson, let Cole/Basabe take care of him and stick to the three headed moster of shooters NW has.
