Well, I'm sufficently scared now that I won't do it. Thank you all for the stories of caution! The rest of my group has tickets via Stub Hub, but I was hoping to help them pick up a couple more for my in-laws. As a Hawkeye-by-marriage, I'm taking one for the team and staying at the rental...

I agree too. Our house went to bed saying peaches, but we woke up smelling roses!

Well, we had our hopes on the roses for a few weeks, so we hedged our bets, and made refundable flight and accommodation reservations; even bought the tickets before it was official. Pricey of course, but still within reason. So glad we had a plan of action. Good luck all!

We have a rental in Los Feliz, which is near Griffith Observatory (abt 12 miles away). I'm looking forward to it, but am curious how long it will take to get back. And what are people doing for parking?

I'm wondering the same thing. I heard that to make it work time wise (parade plus game) you want to be at the beginning of the parade, in which case you need tickets (unless you don't mind camping out overnight for a curb spot). I understand no need for tickets towards the end of the parade...
