You love Iowa. But is Football or B-Ball #1?

Which is it?

Put this poll on the board again if football goes 7-5 again and basketball gets a bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Very true. However my answer in particular still would not change. Even during the Lickliter years, although I cared far more about the football team and the outcome of the game, it didn't change the fact that college hoops is in my blood.

Given enough time of football outperforming the basketball team, maybe that could eventually change.

It's really amazing how excited the fan base is following an NIT bid.

I know, I know... the recruiting has picked up and the future looks bright, I'm just sayin

I'm a fan of the bball team and everything hawks, but the anticipation of a football game on saturday throughouth the entire week is what makes it so special. football for me.

What seems interesting is that people are saying BB because they are experiencing more success, but I don't think the Football team had a better season last year.

I can't wait for both seasons to start. The old Iowa blue hair fans will be going nuts this year. "WTF the football team isn't even huddling, and how in the heck did the basketball team score all them points." It could be very very fun !!!!!!!

Basketball and it isn't close. I don't root for football really at all anymore, but even as a kid I couldn't wait for Iowa basketball. Unfortunately, as I got older and the program changed with Alford and Lickliter there has been a damper put on my excitement with the program, but not any longer. Iowa hired he guy they desperately needed in Fran McCaffery and he has made Iowa basketball something that the entire Big Ten has to pay attention to again. This year Iowa will not have matchup liabilities aside from experience from the bigs when they match up against the elite teams of the Big Ten: MSU and OSU. Iowa basketball is here to stay for a while, come and enjoy it.

With the changes in conference games in football, it will make iowa football almost irrevelent on a national level. It would be a rare event when they even are going to be threatening in their division let alone win the conference championship. Basketball is going to be tough also, but its a lot easier to field a great basketball team than a football team. I think Fran is an exceptional coach that knows how to recruit at Iowa.

I disagree wholeheartedly. Winning a basketball title seems to be much more difficult than winning a football title. Hasn't Iowa won like 5 or 6 football titles since our last basketball title?

I think he was saying going forward it is going to be much harder to win a football title, and I agree.

Now Iowa has to finish ahead of Nebraska, Michigan and MSU in their division and then beat the likes of Wisconsin, PSU or OSU in the B1G title game.

A lot of those titles you mentioned are shared titles, which will not happen anymore.

Football for sure.
Going to the games is an event. About 8 hours total travel time. Consumes the weekend. (cause Sunday I'm in recovery mode). Basketball is getting more exciting, however. It's harder to justify driving all that way for two hours and no tailgating though!:D

I understand that football titles will come with more difficulty, but I still think they will come more often than basketball titles. The upper-tier in Big 10 basketball is much harder to break than the upper-tier in football.

If u think UI is going no huddle/Texas Tech/shotgun/5 wide/X-box style/50 passes per game/40 points per game, you will be very disappointed.

Disagree...some of Iowa's most talented football teams have not won a title. When Iowa has won BIG titles in the last decade they have not had to play the team that they shared those titles with. Iowa basketball has won tournament titles with not their better teams. If you are talking regular season, Iowa has not had a full roster for a lot of years...that is finally changing under Fran. Iowa has not been put together for the long-term regular season for too long. Fran is building a program that is built to compete and excel for all styles of play, while imposing its will on the opponent.
All you have to do is look at the upsets...sooner, rather than later those will not be upsets.

Half true. Did not play OSU in 2002 but played and were beaten by Michigan in 2004.
