You love Iowa. But is Football or B-Ball #1?

Which is it?

Disagree...some of Iowa's most talented football teams have not won a title. When Iowa has won BIG titles in the last decade they have not had to play the team that they shared those titles with. Iowa basketball has won tournament titles with not their better teams.

Huh?

If you are talking regular season, Iowa has not had a full roster for a lot of years...that is finally changing under Fran. Iowa has not been put together for the long-term regular season for too long. Fran is building a program that is built to compete and excel for all styles of play, while imposing its will on the opponent.
All you have to do is look at the upsets...sooner, rather than later those will not be upsets.

I have no idea what anything you wrote has to do with what I wrote.

I sort of feel sorry for those that weren't alive or can't remember Iowa sports between about 1980 and 1995.....there wasn't a better time in history to be a fan of Iowa athletics.

During that time we saw the football team go to 3 Rose Bowls (along with several other bowl games), obtain a #1 ranking (along with having a #1 vs #2 at Kinnick), and have a Heisman runner-up in the closest vote in the history of the Heisman. We saw the men's basketball team go to a Final Four, an Elite Eight, a couple Sweet 16's and hold the #1 ranking for several weeks. We saw the women's basketball team go to a Final Four and set the all time attendance record for a women's basketball game. Of course, all the wrestling team did was win Big 10 and National championship after championship. The coaches during that time frame were awesome....Hayden Fry, Lute Olson, Mr. Davis, C. Vivian Stringer, Dan Gable. Since this was the timeframe that I became a huge Hawkeye fan, it's extremely hard to pick one.

But if I had to choose one, I think it'd be basketball. Yes, football games are an event in and of themselves and there's nothing like spending all day tailgating, watching a game in Kinnick, etc. But when Hawkeye basketball is rolling.....there's nothing like it. I don't know what it is and I can't explain it, but there seems to be a different level of excitement around the basketball team when it's winning than when the football team is winning. I don't know if it's because of the season (there's nothing to do in Iowa over winter than watch Hawkeye basketball) and it gives people something to grab onto during the long, cold winters....but those that have seen it know what I mean.

So mark one down for basketball.

Basketball, but football is close, but I will always be a basketball freak. Loved playing it, even shoveled the driveway and shot the ball with gloves on everyday before going to recreation every night at Warren Harding Junior High School where many of the best high school players in DM would go. There were some intense games. I was usually the last person chosen. I was a bit shorter than the others, but could stand in the corner and nail a three every time and knock the ball out of anyone's hand, off his knee/leg out of bounds....

It is somewhat difficult to choose since I enjoy both, but basketball wins. I watched every Lick game and constantly looked for improvement and better chemistry, and sometimes actually found it.....

:)

My vote has to go to football. I grew up watching both equally and loved every game I was fortunate enough to attend but I actually got to meet Hayden Frye after the spring game when I was an 8th grader. After the game I saw Coach Frye riding the golf cart away from Kinnick and over to the media bit and I chased after him until a few of the security guards motioned for me to stop. I slowed up and Coach Frye saw me and motioned for me to continue and to the guards to allow me to continue so I ran balls out after the cart and caught him as they pulled up to where he was going to address the media and Coach Frye said to me "Your pretty fast. Maybe you can come and play for me in a few years." I was absolutely stunned. Almost to the point that I forgot to get his autograph. I got to meet a bunch of the players and got a bunch of their autographs on the big poster that was handed out. Have been a Hawk football freak ever since.

I never miss an Iowa football game(tv/goingto game), but I hardly ever miss a basketball game either. I will be a first year student(Junior) @ Iowa this year and I am more excited about Iowa basketball and being in the front row of the student section! I live and breathe everythin Hawkeyes! Excited for both seasons! Go Hawkeyes!

If u think UI is going no huddle/Texas Tech/shotgun/5 wide/X-box style/50 passes per game/40 points per game, you will be very disappointed.

Not sure what is worse the fact that you thought somebody thought this, or that you took the time to type this. For one Davis is from Texas not Texas Tech, secondly if it must be spelled out both teams (basketball, and football) will have different looks compared to the past. No more Tate screaming at the sideline waiting for a play or dribbling the shot clock down to two and chucking one.

I went with Football still but my god I hope KF is done trying to bore everyone to death while going 7-5.

Fran is closing the gap.

I have to go with football because every game means more. It's only 12 games and then (hopefully) a bowl game. Basketball is 30+ games and if you lose one, oh well, you have a bunch of other chances to make it up. You often play your rivals twice whereas in football you have to wait an entire year.
