You love Iowa. But is Football or B-Ball #1?

Which is it?

For me, personally, it's basketball.
But Iowa is still digging out a of deep, deep hole in that regard.

Football is still the c*ck-of-the-walk right now. Should be for the foreseeable future. Will be interesting to re-visit this question in a decade or so.

Based on this poll it obviously depends on which program has more excitement. 3 years ago it wouldve been 90/10 football.

Basketball for sure. I love Hawkeye football and never miss a game, but the same is true for Iowa basketball. Even through these past few years where there has been little excitement, I still watched.

I'm football>wrestling>basketball also..

But.. I'm pretty impressed with the basketball side representin' pollwise..

The Kinnick gameday experience, the last 30 years of solid history, and the relative importance of each game all mean FOOTBALL is just plain fantastic in the fall.

1a. Iowa Basketball
1b. Iowa Football

I love both, but I grew up on Iowa hoops.. Every single game during basketball season when I was growing up was a major household event.. The whole family (except my brother who was an ISU geek) would be gathered around the tube rooting hard.

We liked football, but it was a little more hit-n-miss for catching the games. I've watched far more football since I've moved out on my own then we ever did as a family when I was a kid.

I watch football religiously, the last time I either wasn't at a game or watching it was Michigan in 2005 because I was stuck working. The whole experience around football with the tailgating and such pushes it to a win hands down. I still like Iowa BBall, but life doesn't stop for it like it does football.

I agree with this. If I miss a basketball game, I'm a little bummed but not worried about it. However, if I missed a football game, the whole weekend would be ruined. I live and breath Iowa football. Basketball to me is just a bridge to summer but I still hope they get better.

I am a big fan of both, tough call for me. I grew up as a huge Hawkeye Hoops fan, I played a lot of basketball myself at a relatively early age so I think that played into my fandom quite a bit. I still watched a lot of football and my dad always had season tix so I would go to a lot of games when I was young too, but hoops was my first love.
After getting more and more into football as I grew up, playing in high school, going to Iowa, tailgating, getting my own season tix, etc football has become king. Couple that with the fact my wife is a big football fan and the popularity explosion that is football and football got my vote. On top of that the last 4 or 5 years of Iowa hoops have been pretty bad, so that may have skewed my vote towards football as well.
Either way, I will watch every minute of every football and basketball game. But football won out and got my vote.

Put this poll on the board again if football goes 7-5 again and basketball gets a bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Hmmmm..........guess Steve Alford was right.
BB for me though.

Steve Alford is the reason, for me, that basketball dropped behind football. Lickliter moved it to 4th place, behind women's basketball. Fran may take it back to the top sport for me.

Football will always be #1, however i am more excited for the Basketball season than I am for the Football season. Therefore i vote Bball.
